Gallery of Costume (1) // Day 2 // - Manchester 2015

After lunch, my dad and I took a bus to visit the Gallery of Costume. Entrance is free and I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes fashion, especially those who are interested in historical clothing.

On the ground floor, we are greeted by the more recent clothing and fashion.

More architecture and lunch // Day 2 // - Manchester 2015

If I remember correctly, I think this is the town hall?

Manchester is seriously filled with amazing architecture, tons of statues and beautiful water fountains. * 0 *

Here’s a closer shot of the entrance to the town hall.

Entrance to the place where we had a super delicious lunch for a great value.

All this for £6.50! Not a bad price considering how expensive everything is in England. The place is also well decorated and it had a comfortable atmosphere. Additionally, the food was very nice so I would definitely recommend this place. 

Unfortunately, I never took note of the name. However, it is located on a busy street that I am sure all tourists would pass by, so if you pay attention to the signs that are advertising carvery lunch for £6.50, you will find the place. (There are practically nowhere else advertising carvery lunch for that low price.)

In the next post, I will talk about our adventure at the Gallery of Costume. There will be lots of pictures of beautiful clothing, not just of modern fashion, but also of historical ones. Please stay tuned to that. :D

More Exploring Around City Centre // Day 2 // - Manchester 2015

Continental breakfast - For some reason, I remembered to take pictures of the pretty cup and milk jug but forgot about the actual food.

I’ve shown a picture of the ferris wheel at night in one of my previous posts but here’s another picture of it during the day time.

FYI, I took this while I was on the bus, hence the weird glare and the line of golden light towards the top of the picture.

Dinner // Day 1 // - Manchester 2015

We passed by a few high end brand stores on our way over to the restaurant for dinner. They had Burberry and the likes there. 

Sorry, this place just deserved lots of pictures because it was seriously too pretty! (BTW, just so you can be mentally prepared, I passed by this place again another day and took more pictures. xD)

This is the place where we had dinner on our first night in Manchester. It’s right beside the place I showed lots of pictures of just now. 

First impression is that the interior is really nice, but there were bits of paper and stuff on the floor that nobody cared to clean for the entire duration of our dinner.

The food looks really nice and all but it honestly wasn’t anything special. I can only say it was passable. The thing I had in this picture was so mediocre I would say I could find the same quality in one of those microwavable packaged food. :/ 

The service itself didn’t help to redeem the restaurant either. I really am not the kind of person to be bothered by people who don’t smile when serving but the waitress was quite rude as well... We asked for two different things on the menu, both were unavailable which was already sort of a bummer because there was only 4 other choices left and 1 was a salad which I didn’t care for so really, just 3 options for me xD 

Anyway, naturally, we scanned through the menu again to see what else we would like, and the waitress had her hand on her hips, clearly giving us the look that she was impatient... as if it was our fault we had to reconsider what we wanted? She couldn’t have just told us politely that she will get back to us later while we decide? And she did that right after she told us that what we wanted wasn’t available, so it wasn’t even as if we were taking ages to decide, she was already moody. 

Anyway, our food came, ate the food, chilled a bit, talked and decided we’d order some dessert. Then the waiter (different to the one earlier) told us we needed to do that at the bar. Alright, so I went over right after he said that and the guy at the bar tells me that the kitchen is already closed and we couldn’t order anymore. So, why didn’t the guy earlier tell me straight out that the kitchen was already closed? 

Anyway, that was some pretty shite service and half decent foods so definitely would NOT recommend going to this restaurant. :/ 

So that was all for Day 1 of our trip to Manchester, which ended after our dinner because everywhere was closed so we just retired to our hotel for the night and watched telly. :)

Exploring City Centre + The Printworks // Day 2 // - Manchester 2015

After I woke up from the nap, my dad and I went to explore the area around our hotel to find a place to have lunch because we were STARVING!! 

Brace yourself because there’s going to be lots of pictures of buildings in the Manchester travelling series. I just think the architecture there is really amazing

There’s a few lines of buses going around the city that are free so it’s super convenient for tourists. You should be able to go to most tourist attractions via these buses so if you are planning on going to Manchester, I’d highly recommend doing a bit of research on that. :D

Stupidly, we first decided to go to China Town, well I insisted to go there first thinking that it would be really big with lots of shops that sell cool stuff, but it was honestly disappointing. It was basically just a street filled with Asian restaurants and literally one Asian shop that sold really traditional stuff like paper lanterns. There is a Chinese bakery there that is pretty popular though.

We ended up going to an Italian restaurant for lunch while we were on our way back to the city centre from China Town.

We just shared this, because it was already almost 5 and we bought coupons for dinner at another place prior to travelling over to Manchester, so we didn’t want to be too full.

There were small food stalls that looked really pretty in real life. They looked really dainty and cozy, but I couldn’t capture that with my phone camera. ; 3 ;

Then we decided to head over to The Printworks for some pictures while we wait until it’s time for dinner.

To be honest, this was actually one of the highlights of my trip because I was just so amazed at the interior here. There’s so much little details!!

Again, brace yourself because there’s going to be lots of pictures just for The Printworks area.

Despite the fact that the restaurants all fit into the interior theme of The Printworks, they were all slightly different. It wasn’t as if they had a default style that they all went with so it was really nice. :D

Arrival + Hotel Tour // Day 1 // - Machester 2015

My dad and I travelled to Manchester in January of 2015. Not because we’ve always wanted to go or any inspiring reasons like that but just because the plane tickets were cheap so we went for it. xD

Breakfast before we board the plane. The frappe was not even made properly, the guy forgot to blend it, so it was just coffee, ice and chocolate chips too big to go through the straw. :/ 

If you don’t take a picture of the sky while on the plane going away for a trip, did you really go away at all? 

Sucks that the bottom corner of the picture isn’t the wing but just the engine xD

OUR BUS FINALLY ARRIVED AFTER A WHOLE HOUR OF WAITING WHILE DYING OF THIRST!

The first thing I found that is actually amazing and jaw dropping is a vending machine that sells ice cream, and specifically, Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream which makes it 1000% better! 

yes, yes I love ice cream.

The architecture is amazing in England. There are so many buildings that are worth taking pictures of.

Our hotel’s lobby. It was a pretty small hotel, but it was cheap and in a great location. It was in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go. :D

No fancy interior or anything, but it was neat and comfy, so not bad. :)

We woke up early that day to get on the plane so we were (I was) already exhausted. We (I) ended up taking a nap before heading out for lunch.

HK Haul - HK2014

Random stuff from 12HKD shops, except the bookmark on the top right which was from somewhere in Kwun Tong.

Shingeki no kyojin gacha wins :D That was probably my most glorious gacha moment because I didn’t get any duplicates. Yes, I am missing the main character, Eren, but I hadn’t been getting any duplicates and my intuition tells me that I can’t be that lucky and that I’ll kick myself in the face if I try again and get a duplicate. I don’t really care for Eren anyway so I just left it at that. :P

The craft knife is from a stationary shop in the Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre. The stuff in the middle was bought in the craft store in the Dragon Centre in West Kowloon. The bows are from the 12HKD shop.

The pens on the left were from the 12HKD shop. My mom bought the ones on the right before I went back to HK so I'm not sure where she got it.

The thing on the left is a hair band for when you need to wash your face.  The one on the right is a foaming net. You put a bit of regular cleanser on it, rub the net, and it will turn really foamy. :3

Leaving HK and First Meal Back in Ireland - HK2014

This was the interior of the bus back to the airport. It’s fancy af and WAAAY more comfy than the economy class seats on the plane (assuming first class or business class seats are comfy enough coz this poor kid, aka me, has obviously never sat in those seats.)

Not all buses to the airport have these seats though, I lucked out :D

I decided the dessert deserved a close-up.

Breakfast - The potato wedges were soggy, and the mushrooms were waaay too salty but it was decent enough.

Lunch - Super nice, apart from the fact that it was too spicy. I normally wouldn’t care about the spiciness because I could just drink water, but as you know, it’s a pain to keep asking for water on the plane coz they only give you a little bit every time. Oh well, I survived so it’s all good. xD

First meal back in Ireland, and we’re still having Chinese, haha, typical!

Random Food Post // Part 5 // - HK2014

It’s time for another random food post. I swear I take too much pictures of food, I need to take more pictures of other things, but it’s not my fault I was born foodie. xD

Beef or chicken curry, can’t remember what meat was in there but it’s curry anyway and that’s the main thing, haha. XD BTW, I had this at the local HK ‘cafe’. 

That’s my dad’s meal. Pork chop and sausages with tomato sauce.

I passed by the pie and tart shop with my parents and had to take a picture because I love their food. I don’t get to eat them often because, of course I don’t live in Hong Kong, and second, their shops aren’t located where I usually hang out, like MK, or Kwai Fong, so I don’t see them often. :c

We bought 6 pie and tarts in one go, and they were all amazing and really affordable as you can see. They’re all around 1.50EUR. :D

Bottled Coca Colas are the best! :D

Family dinner before I go back to Ireland ~~

Not sure if I posted this picture in my previous posts because I just stumbled upon it at the end of my album but I’m sure I took this before my farewell dinner so err, I’ll just repost it just in case. xD

BTW, we had this on the top floor of Kwai Fong, from the ice cream shop at the very end of the line of food stalls. You can get 5 small scoops of different flavours for 12HKD, which is just a little over 1EUR so it’s a very good deal. They don’t just have the basic flavours like vanilla, chocolate and mint chocolate, but they also have ones like sesame, red bean, sweet potato, tofu etc, so if you like to try special flavours like those, I’d definitely recommend this place. You can try lots of these unique flavours in one go at a very low price. :D

What’s a trip to Hong Kong without having the infamous curry fish balls right?? 

For those who have never heard of them, do NOT be alarmed. I repeat, DO NOT BE ALARMED! These are fish paste made into the shape of balls, NOT the balls of the fishes, so don’t gag. D:

Random Compilation of Stuff // Part 2 // - HK2014

Again, I have to do another post of random compilation of stuff because I kept just taking a few pictures every time I went out that it’s not enough to dedicate a whole post to any single day.

I’ve mentioned many times in my blog posts before that the shopping centres in Hong Kong like to do a lot of events to attract people. This is one of them, where the kids can dress as little chefs and learn to cook. 

This, because why not? The lego movie was amazing and you all know it!

Another karaoke session ~ This is a mic cap that you can put over your mics so you don’t have to gross out when you accidentally kiss your mic.

Iced chocolate in the background and mine was an iced Horlick (I think that’s how you spell it)

Depending on the time you go to a karaoke, they have different deals. When we went in the morning, the karaoke session came with a meal and free drink. My friend, Elaine, ordered a bowl of wonton noodles.

My friend, Mandy ordered steak, which was I think either 5HKD or 10HKD extra but that’s around a euro so that’s hardly any difference. BTW, it was freaking delicious! It was just warm, not hot when it arrived but hey, we paid under 80HKD for 3 hours of Karaoke and this was included! (DON’T FORGET WE GOT A FREE DRINK TOO)

This is what I got, a Japanese beef bowl. I had to pay extra 10HKD too, but again, it was really nice but I kept eyeing Mandy’s steak, so it was comparably not as attractive. ._.

Random Compilation of Stuff - HK2014

Some chickens, and SUPER sweet Japanese sweet potatoes. By the way, they’re all raw because we were barbequeing. TBH, as you can see from the picture, the portions were tiny so it was quite expensive considering what you get. x_x

One of my favourite HK youtubers raved about this brand of brownies so I took some pictures of it to remind myself to get it, because I already spent a lot of money that particular day. I never ended up getting it though. :/

Random Food Post // Part 4 // - HK2014

It’s time for random food post again!!~~

This was from a restaurant called YLK in Tsz Wan Shan shopping centre. 

The food was really nice but the price was not ‘ 3 ′

I got this in the food court in West Kowloon shopping centre. It was I think around 25HKD, which is approx 3 euro. Not super expensive but also not cheap. (considering how I can buy a full McDonald’s meal with that much money) This was really just good for pictures. The waffle was not crispy at all, just soggy. :/ 

Breakfast at a local Hong Kong cafe. The above is buttered sandwich with an omelette that you can put inside the sandwich if you’d like. The bottom is soup noodles with Satay beef. Looks nasty but super DELICIOUS!!!

The bottom is pasta with fish paste foods. 

I can’t remember where I had this at all. T^T 

This was at a traditional Chinese pharmacy. Chinese medicine are all usually some sort of dark coloured soup boiled with medicinal herbs. They are very bitter but when you drink it, some of the medicine would leave your throat feeling very errr refreshed? Hard to explain but it’s just like when you have a minty drink, it gives your throat a similar feeling to that. I wasn’t sick with a cold or anything like that, this was meant to help make my body stronger and healthier in general. 

Sashimi at a local Japanese restaurant near where I live, in fact it’s literally next door, haha.

V-City Shopping Centre // Part 2 // - HK2014

After we finished window shopping, we went to have dinner in a small local Korean restaurant.

Kimbap - This was actually my favourite dish because the beef was just too nice!!!

I think this was spicy tofu soup or spicy seafood soup. Really flavourful

V-City Shopping Centre // Part 1 // - HK2014

I can’t remember if it was on the same day as the Kowloon buffet post but we went to Tuen Mun’s V-City shopping centre. :D

There was an exhibition for the famous American poodle, “Boo” there. :D

Like a lot of my last posts about taking pictures of attractions like this, there’s always a lot of people so sometimes you just gotta deal with the fact you’ll never be able to take a picture of the thing without randomers in the shot. :/

**Let’s also try to forget the fact that the kid should not be behind the fenced area....**

I just thought this Japanese restaurant’s interior looked really nice so I snapped a few pictures of it. xD

We didn’t go in though. If I remember correctly, it was a 食べ放題 place which is similar to a buffet. The only difference is that instead of going out and putting on food on your own plate, you choose what you want to eat from a menu and it’s made fresh for you, and you can order as much as you want.

Make sure you are able to finish the food though. If there’s a lot of leftovers still on the table when you leave, there’s usually a penalty charge for that. (at least in Hong Kong anyway, not sure about Japan.) 

My aunt told me because it’s a Japanese buffet, it wouldn’t be good value for us to go in since I don’t eat sashimi. :c

I tried shopping in V-city, but everything was branded and expensive, so I just got some of these fried cheese and sweetcorn bites from Burger King to make myself feel better.

Buffet in Kow Loon - HK2014

We got our hands on some coupons for a buffet at a hotel in Kow Loon and went with my dad’s side of the family. Here’s some pictures of the food I ate. ^ v ^

This is black sesame ice cream and it deserves a close-up because it was super nice!

At this stage, I was trying to eat more because I should get the most out of a buffet right? But I was getting full so this was my lame attempt at trying to eat a bit more, haha. xD

I couldn’t even finish this small tub of ice cream. I had half and my dad ended up finishing it for me,he didn’t mind though. :D

In my defence though, I just woke and went straight to Kow Loon for the buffet, so my stomach wasn’t even ready for much food yet. > <
