He has a little help with Hermione Granger, his best friend, and Dean Thomas, his dormmate. But of course, he can't do this without a little extra help from all of his professors who are glad to help out. Well, he had to tell the professors about the prank or he and the students helping him prank are bound to actually get hurt by their professors. No, except here, we can pretend that he doesn’t curse Draco. We can pretend that he opens the door, sees someome in need and instead of acting out of anger and raging hormones, he simply bends a knee and places a soothing hand on Draco’s shoulder. Sure, Draco shoves him away but Harry sees the pain and the fear in Draco’s eyes and knows without a doubt that he’s not, in fact, evil. He’s scared. He’s terrified. And if only someone could help? If only someone could understand how painful it is to breathe with the threat of his family’s lives hovering over his head everyday and how much he so desperatly does not want to be apart of any of this nonesense. How he wants it all to just end. Harry sees all that in those tear-streaked, red-rimmed eyes and knows that he can’t leave Draco on the floor alone. He knows that his anger is not what’s needed here. So he ignores the first shove, the second, he ignores the angry spit of “get away from me, Potter!”, he ignores it all to engulf Draco in a hug so tight he can’t fight back. They scramble on the floor, Harry forcing Draco to submit to his hold and Harry can feel it the moment Draco gives in, the moment he lets it all loose from his system and melts into a puddle in his arms, and Harry, being the boy who was never given enough love as a child, understands what it is to be both touch-starved and terrified at the same time. He absorbes the shivers and the sobs of anguish Draco cries into his shoulder and let’s them run their course.

And because he’s Harry, he doesn’t let go.
