Pantasy sent me the Stained Glass Table Lamp #85042 for a review and a photo shoot, and I have to admit… I started this build feeling both curious and skeptical. The official visuals didn’t fully convince me at first, but the idea definitely caught my attention: a vintage-style table lamp, built at almost real-object scale, standing 36 cm tall, made of 1067 pieces, and featuring a full LED kit. That is not something I usually build, and probably not something most brick fans expect either.

What makes this set interesting straight away is that it is not just another display piece inspired by an object: it is the object. A full-size decorative lamp in brick form is a very unusual concept, and that alone makes the Pantasy 85042 stand out in a crowded market. Whether you love the design or not, you immediately understand the ambition behind it.

I’ll quickly skip over the usual quality points like the packaging, brick quality, and instruction manual, simply because Pantasy has already proven itself on those aspects for quite a while now. At this point, opening one of their boxes already tells you that the overall experience will be premium. In terms of finish and presentation, the brand is clearly operating at a level comparable to LEGO or Lumibricks, and that consistency is becoming one of Pantasy’s real strengths.

As for the design itself, I’ll try to stay objective because, personally, this style is not really my thing. I’m not especially drawn to this kind of vintage decorative object. That said, I have to give credit where it’s due: the lamp is packed with details, and the designers clearly did a very solid job giving it a strong personality. The retro inspiration is obvious from the start and, in my opinion, fully achieved. Even if I’m not the target audience aesthetically, I can absolutely see why some collectors will love it.

The build starts with the base, combining Technic elements and classic bricks to create a structure that feels reassuringly solid. That was a good choice, especially for a model of this size. It also allows you to install the LED system early in the process, because yes, this lamp actually lights up — and that’s a huge part of its appeal. A functional light feature always brings something extra to a display set, and it’s hard not to think that other brands should pay more attention to this kind of detail.

Then comes the lampshade, and this is where my experience became more mixed. To be honest, I didn’t enjoy this section that much. The construction is extremely repetitive, with the same sub-assemblies repeated again and again. Of course, that comes directly from the object’s design, so Pantasy probably had very little room to do otherwise, but building the same sections 8 to 12 times does become a bit tedious. By the end, I was more relieved than excited to finish that stage.

Still, I don’t want that criticism to overshadow what Pantasy achieved here. Even in the most repetitive parts, there are some genuinely clever building techniques used to maintain both the strength of the structure and the elegant, airy look of the lampshade. That balance is not easy to achieve, especially on a model designed to look delicate while remaining sturdy enough to handle and display. On that front, the designers really deserve praise.

So in the end, how do I feel about the Pantasy Stained Glass Table Lamp 85042? I’d say this is a set for a specific audience. It won’t be for everyone, and it is definitely not the kind of build I would recommend purely for the building experience, because the repetitive sections may test your patience. But for fans of vintage decor, original brick-built objects, and display models with real presence, this one has undeniable appeal. Once finished, it becomes a striking shelf piece with character, scale, and a functional lighting feature that makes it even more satisfying in the evening.

Not exactly my favorite design personally, but definitely an interesting and ambitious set — and one that will make the right collector very proud to display it.

There’s something magical about snow.

When winter finally brings a white blanket to our region, it’s always a small event. Snow is rare here, which makes it even more precious. As a toy and Lego photographer, I can’t resist the urge to grab my camera and head outside the moment the first flakes start falling. Snow instantly transforms a scene. It softens the light, simplifies the background, and adds that cinematic atmosphere you just can’t fake easily.

Well… almost.

Because as beautiful as real snow is, it doesn’t show up on demand. And when you’re staging tiny winter scenes that feel like they belong somewhere between a quiet mountain village and a visit from Santa Claus, waiting for the perfect snowfall isn’t always an option.

That’s where the studio challenge begins.

Creating a convincing winter atmosphere indoors is a whole different game. Snow has texture, reflection, depth. It catches highlights and absorbs shadows in subtle ways. To recreate that feeling in a studio setup, you need a few tricks up your sleeve:

Fake snow (baking soda, modeling snow powder, or specialized props) to build realistic ground texture.

Cool, bluish tones in lighting and color grading to mimic the natural coldness of winter light.

Soft, diffused lighting to imitate an overcast sky.

Careful control of contrast so the whites don’t blow out while keeping details in the Lego bricks.

The goal isn’t just to make it look white. It’s to make it feel cold.

One of the things I love most about Lego photography is this balance between reality and illusion. Whether I’m shooting outdoors in real snow or recreating winter from scratch in my studio, the challenge is always the same: tell a believable story in a tiny world.

And honestly? Sometimes building winter from nothing in a warm studio is just as satisfying as freezing your fingers outside.

But when real snow does fall… you can be sure I’ll be out there with my minifigures.

Because nothing beats the real thing.

Ahoy builders! ⚓️🏴‍☠️🌊

I received Cliffside Broken Mast Cabin (1044 pieces) 🪵⛰️ and Pirate’s Bay Market (856 pieces) 🏘️⚓ from IamBrickToy for a full review and photo session, and honestly, this is the kind of pirate revival many of us have been waiting for!

What makes these sets stand out? 👀

They work perfectly as standalone builds or can be combined to create a complete pirate seaside scene 🏝️. Such a smart move for collectors who don’t necessarily want to commit to a massive display right away.

As an AFOL, I’ve always felt that the pirate theme is hugely loved but underrepresented today, especially compared to the golden era of the 90s when original pirate sets (no licenses needed) were everywhere. Seeing a brand invest in this universe feels refreshing ✨

⚓ Pirate’s Bay Market truly feels like the vibrant heart of a seaside village. Platforms, stairs, wooden walkways: there’s movement everywhere. You can almost hear the merchants shouting and the waves hitting the docks 🌊🛶

🏴‍☠️ Cliffside Broken Mast Cabin perfectly captures that improvised pirate shelter vibe: a fragile-looking wooden shack hanging dramatically over a rocky cliff 🌄. It has that chaotic charm we love in pirate builds.

The building experience? Genuinely enjoyable 🧩

No repetitive sections, plenty of variety, and satisfying techniques throughout. The final result is packed with details: wooden houses, cliff textures, piers, ladders, and fully accessible interiors from the back, which I always appreciate for photography 📸✨

I let my 10-year-old son build the 856-piece Market set, and he loved it 💪😄 No difficulty following the instructions: they’re clear and well designed. That’s always a good sign.

As I mentioned, the overall building experience on this set is very satisfying. But for seasoned brick builders, what really matters is the brick quality itself, because that’s what guarantees a smooth build without the frustration of sections collapsing mid-assembly.

Here, everything delivers once again. The clutch power is reliable, the fit is precise, and the construction techniques never compromise the structural integrity.🔒 The result is a sturdy, confidence-inspiring build from start to finish. The builds survived my ultimate test: a full toy photography session with multiple manipulations and lighting setups 💡📷 If it holds through that, it holds through anything.

The only thing missing? Minifigures to bring the scene to life 🤏

Luckily, I still own my old LEGO pirate minifigs and they were more than happy to take over the harbor for the shoot 🏴‍☠️🔥

As someone used to Lumibricks, I couldn’t resist adding a bit of lighting to enhance the atmosphere 💡 A full lighting kit would elevate this display even more, maybe something for the future?

Color is never accidental in photography: it’s emotional architecture.

When I think about autumn shoots, especially with LEGO toys, the palette becomes the storyteller. Warm tones, soft oranges, muted browns… they don’t just suggest fall — they feel like fall. The colors do half the narrative work before you even notice the subject.

For toy photography, this is even more crucial. Miniature worlds need atmosphere to feel believable. A simple LEGO minifigure standing in neutral light is documentation. The same figure surrounded by amber leaves, golden backlight, and deep orange shadows? That’s a story.

In my recent autumn-themed LEGO shoots, I leaned heavily into:

🍂 Burnt orange backgrounds 🌅 Golden hour lighting 🟤 Earthy browns and warm neutrals ✨ Subtle warm color grading in post

For example, A small woodland cabin scene where the warm LED lights blend into the natural autumn tones.

The warmth softens the plastic texture and makes the scene feel almost nostalgic, like a memory instead of a staged setup.

Choosing a palette first helps guide everything else: props, lighting direction, background materials, even lens choice. Color creates cohesion. It turns scattered elements into a unified visual mood.

Autumn is a reminder that warm tones aren’t just seasonal, they’re emotional. And sometimes, a little plastic minifigure bathed in orange light can feel more alive than reality. 🍁

A few months ago, I challenged myself to recreate the iconic train scene from Back to the Future Part III… in LEGO 🚂⚡ At the time, there was no official DeLorean available, so I had to improvise.

But the future (or LEGO 😏) finally caught up with me. With the release of the Speed Champions DeLorean, I could finally give it another shot, much closer to the original movie scene.

The result: 👉 A brand-new setup 👉 A more accurate DeLorean 👉 And once again, the stunning Western Freight Train F9036 by Lumibricks pushing the legend to 88 miles per hour 💥

Sometimes, you just have to wait for the right moment in the timeline ⏳😉

I love diving back into my old photos and trying to recreate the scenes to see how I interpret them today 📸🧠

I'll be doing this little experiment a few times throughout May, starting with this setup in a garden center where the plants are taking over! 🌿🪴😱

2025 version

In the original version from 2023, the scene took place in a shop. It was much more classic, with a simpler setup and less refined lighting. For this new version, I used the amazing greenhouse by Funwhole, where I placed a carnivorous plant along with some Lego characters. I went with natural light, making sure the brightness was focused right at the center where the action happens ☀️📷

I built a more layered and framed scene to draw attention to the key moment. The focus is on the gardener’s shocked expression — only then do you spot the poor guy getting eaten by the plant 😅 I added a few fun details like the watering can he dropped and a little pup that looks like it's barking to raise the alarm 🐶🪴

So here’s the updated version of this first setup! Which one do you prefer — the new one or the original 2023 version?

A Camping Adventure, Brick by Brick

Whether it's the sound of a fire, the soft murmurs of the woodland, or the sense of adventure in the vast outdoors, camping has a certain allure. block by block, this LEGO photo series embodies that mentality.

From camping beneath tall pines to waking up in the snow or disturbed by a bear, every picture conveys a different story. While some sequences are photographed outdoors, where they mix in well with the natural world, others are set in a studio, where the adventure is brought to life by the use of light and shadow and artificial backdrops.

It's all about the atmosphere—cozy, enigmatic, or adventurous—beyond the tents and minifigures. Every element, from the small fire that shine in the nighttime to the gentle morning light that filters through the trees, is intended to give you the impression that you are actually there, experiencing the moment.

Capturing Winter Magic: A LEGO Photography Series

Winter brings a unique atmosphere, transforming the world with its crisp air, delicate frost, and golden morning light. It’s the perfect time to capture the magic of the season, and what better way to do it than with LEGO minifigures braving the cold?

For this photography series, I ventured outside during the early hours, when the low sun casts long shadows and the frost glistens like tiny crystals. The goal was to create scenes that tell a story—small, adventurous moments frozen in time.

Each shot was carefully composed, using natural elements like ice-covered twigs, frost-dusted grass, and even miniature snowdrifts to bring the LEGO characters to life. The lighting played a crucial role in creating depth and contrast, making the scenes feel immersive and cinematic.

Among the highlights of the series:

An intrepid explorer trekking through a frostbitten landscape, bundled up against the cold.

A funny Star Wars moment.

A trapper discovering a curious visitor in front of its snow-covered wood cabin...

These images celebrate the small wonders of winter, blending the charm of LEGO with the breathtaking beauty of nature. It’s a reminder that storytelling can come in all sizes—and that sometimes, the best way to capture a season’s essence is through miniature adventures.

Great Scott! We're approaching 88 miles...

I'd been wanting to do a Back to the Future scene in Lego for a while. I finally took the plunge and found a moc of the Delorean on rebrickable: I don't have the official minifigure set, and I think it's a bit of a dud :(

I then looked for a scene to represent and finally opted for the (awesome) train sequence in Back to the Future III! I modified the characters a little to fit the scene, using the Indiana Jones figure for Doc and the Explorer figure for Marty.

Then I recreated a studio set with natural elements, and set off to aim for 88 miles :)

Spooky LEGO Creations for Halloween! 🎃👻

Hey LEGO fans! 👋

With Halloween just around the corner, I looked through my old photos to see what I could share today on this theme. In the end, I didn't feel like bringing them out again; probably because my graphic style has evolved, and also because, I hope, my technique has evolved too! 📷

And so I preferred to do a small series again, using (and abusing) the UV lamp and the Neoncolored parts that react with it for bizarre stagings 🦇🦉

So, I’m excited to share a mini-series of LEGO pics celebrating all things spooky! From eerie creatures to haunted settings, these iconic Halloween characters are reimagined in brick form, adding a playful twist to the chills.🕸️🕷️

Last month, I had the opportunity to shoot JMBricklayer's new vehicle, based on the Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe. 🚗

It was quite an intense assembly experience, with some tricky stages to reproduce this car's complex silhouette as closely as possible. But the result was stunning, very close to a real model, solid enough to be handled during my photo shoots and with a premium look, thanks in particular to the numerous chrome parts.

The icing on the cake is that the final model can be displayed with or without the soft top, and above all benefits from a complete lighting system... 💡

I recently built a hangar scene for an assignment with the @studshooters community. Before taking it down, I took the opportunity to do another shoot, as this month's theme at @brickcentral was a perfect match.

So I staged the fabulous Exosuit from set 21109, designed by Peter Reid, in this environment, imagining the armor as if hastily abandoned, one arm missing, the only traces of the former pilots being the helmet and oxygen cylinders. For the lighting, I used a setting quite similar to the previous photo, with under-lighting and a top light. I wanted to create a kind of central light well. I used a small mist diffuser to channel the light and give it the feeling of a hangar that had been lifeless for some time…

I left a large number of elements to flesh out the image and add detail.

BOTS & DRAGONS

Thanks to @studshooters I recently had the opportunity to test and stage the lego set n°31124: the super robot. It's a brick-built figure with several points of articulation for different poses. It's also a 3-in-1 set, featuring a dragon and a supersonic plane.

But since the main part is the robot, I naturally concentrated my efforts on this one. As it's a large figurine, I wanted to present it as dynamically as possible, and in different environments to vary the shots.

For the 1st, I wanted to emphasize its ability to fly, since the design includes 2 wings that suggest the robot can do so. And I wanted to play with its reflection in the water to build up the image. So I suspended him from a rope over a lake!

For the next 2, I wanted to show him in action, first on a road, playing with the scale of the vehicles (the tiny racers range) to show his gigantic size, accentuated by the low-angle framing. Next, the robot faces a massive enemy. I used the Trex, which is my largest Lego figure, and seemed to be on the same scale as the robot. The Trex is framed from behind to focus on the robot.

For the 4th photo, I concentrated more on storytelling, imagining the robot's owner in his workshop, during the construction phase. This was the photo that required the most work, not only to build the set, but also to set up the lights, using a Led kit specially designed for the bricks. I also used sparkling candles during the shoot to simulate the welding and bring life to the image. For the record, there were 2 or 3 bricks that weren't too keen on the sparks!

For the 5th photo, I chose to dismantle the robot to use the model of the dragon attacking a convoy of poor goats! It's a simple scene, but I wanted to create a very readable staging. Here again, I did the shoot outdoors (the light is still magnificent in the morning, so let's make the most of it), with the figurine suspended from a rope and a low-angle framing.

During my vacation in the Alps, I took the opportunity to do a few photo shoots with my Lego figures, making the most of the stunning natural scenery. With crystal-clear streams, majestic peaks, and lush forests as the backdrop, it was the perfect setting to bring these little creations to life in the great outdoors. Thewide-open spaces added a unique vibe to the photos 🌿✨

From a more technical side, working with natural light in such environments was both a challenge and a joy. The sunlight filtering through the trees or reflecting off the water created some amazing effects, but also required careful attention to shadows and angles. I had to adapt quickly to changing light conditions, making the most of the soft, diffused light during golden hour for some of the shots, while using the harsher midday sun for more dramatic contrasts.

Overall, it was a fun experiment in balancing natural elements with photography techniques!
