Cissy Meldrum (Catherine Rabett) in You Rang, M'Lord? (BBC 1988-1993) Last week there were several different posts on my dash pertaining to lesbians & monocles. It made me think abt this sitcom that was on TV when I was a kid, as it did the first time I ever read abt the monocle being an old lesbian signifier. I was quite impressed that the writers of You Rang, M'Lord? had at least done their research. OK, so YRML could be chronically unfunny (neither the character or the sitcom have dated very well tbh), but I thought I’d pay tribute to this lesbian TV character from the past. Here’s to Cissy & her “chum” (presumably 1920’s for “gal pal”) Penelope!
