hiii lovely :))) responding to your call for asks yay it’s so fun 🫶
..was wondering what your favourite or most favourite storylines of aaron’s are and why (simple question but any excuse to talk about angel aaron 😊 also i love reading people’s favourite parts of him/his stories)
also i just saw that you’ve watched some jebbie !! what are your main takeaways from that sl/ your favourite things about it .. i can’t wait to experience when i get there in my debbiedale watching !! would you ever like to see them come back hypothetically (if emmerdale ever starts caring about women/ yuri again) ..or would you introduce new wlw characters instead ? (or both :D)
also are there any other sls or eras you want to watch at some point ?
<- that’s a lot sorry i got carried away i just like to query and read opinions, i love this show unfortunately ! obviously you don’t have to answer all of that (or any ofc haha) .. and they’re quite open questions too hope that’s ok!! i would just enjoy any thoughts you may have ^^
hello dearest this is such a lovely ask thank you <333 i should be put to death for how long it's taken me to answer this.
As much as I love talking about aaron and his sl, I'm going to keep it brief here and just say I really liked his 2017 arc dealing with sh again + rob's cheating + really finding himself outside of his relationship with robert. Just made for very good storytelling and exploring who aaron was as a character now that he was no longer the "violent thug". and made for some very fun bartsy scenes <3.
I really want to talk about jebbie because I never got the chance to really discuss it or sum up my thoughts. I haven't watched their sl after jasmine got her abortion (last time anyone in ed ever did jfc) but I've seen bits and pieces, enough to know they didn't get back together (per se) before jas's exist. I thought their initial rs was done so well but it's hard to really pin down my feelings about them when idk if my gripes about the writing stem from bad writing or product of its time writing.
Like, the decision to make Cain "seduce" Jasmine ... believably scummy for cain but why make Jasmine fall for that? Narratively I didn't understand it, she was chasing debbie for so long before this I felt that it was just one of those things that was done for shock value without actually addressing the character implications. I felt it cheaply played into the trope of girls who "think" they are attracted to girls because they haven't been with a "real man" ... idk it was very icky. And then following that, ed made the very pointed decision to never really refer to it as what it was - cheating. It was always simply a betrayal on cain's part for sleeping with debbie's friend, just completely invalidated jasmine and debbie's romantic relationship. I don't know, there are parts of older writing that I do appreciate, it feels like they didn't feel they had to be so careful about what they said and did wrt gay characters, nowadays it feels like they tip toe around queer storylines bc if they're not perfect itv thinks we'll bomb the village or something. but on the other hand it feels like a cop out to not allow these characters to properly address what jasmine did other than make her apologize and just continue the friendship, it felt very unsatisfactory to me.
but i digress. debbie and jasmine had some insanely good moments, and they continue to have those even when they're not together. my favorite part about them was how intermingled and intimate their rl was. Jasmine (and by extension, the Thomas household) acting as a safe haven from the Dingles for debbie, her living with them after giving sarah away and jasmine's family encouraging debbie to do something with her life. It's so sweet and you genuinely get the feeling that Debbie's never been treated like that before, so unconditionally cared about. Which makes watching her take responsibility for the fire that much harder to watch because she so clearly cares about Laurel and Ashely's opinion of her. That little unit of Sandy, Laurel, Ashley and jebbie is so cute even though we had it for such a brief moment in time. And after the whole cain-jasmine thing, the fact that debbie was able to forgive her (I mean, jasmine was a kid so really what could they have done) speaks to the strength of that bond, even if it was very plotty. I really do think jasmine never fell out of love with debbie, just didn't believe she deserved to have that relationship again.
from the limited amount of debbie I watched, I never really liked her with pete ross or joe (all kind of boring men imo) so i would LOVE for them to bring jebbie back ... genuinely love. especially from how they left their rl, so much could be built off of it and they're both such good actresses (whether jcol would even come back is a different q entirely lmao) and tbh if I could introduce one billion wlw of color to mdale I would do it immediately. it's just so apparent to me how white the show has become, especially compared to other soaps like ee (which is maj. white anyway) just weird .... and the lack of women oh my god don't get me started. yk it's dire when white blonde women start losing their roles
in terms of eras I've been watching chasdale on and off here and there (I was blogging about the live ep. bc of that a while back) and might go back to that because I was really trying to understand chascarl and then the whole cameron business ... lots going on lol
First ever jebbie edit and I actually love it so much

Jasmine hadn’t changed much- at least not on the surface. Her hair is longer and darker now, but it's undoubtedly her, her face still carrying that sharp, guarded look that Debbie had once thought would never soften. - Australia is the last place Debbie expect to see Jasmine in, especially since she never thought she’d see her again. But life works in mysterious ways. Emmerdale rarepair week day 1- canon ship(s)
This is short as hell and probably my worst work in the fandom yet but I had to try and pratipicate
some cos ocs…
in order: Uvba (she/her), Jebbie (she/her), Kansee (they/them), Wuffie (they/them), Poshka (she/her)
So I was watching the Jasmine and Debbie storyline again and they should've explored Debbie's bisexuality a lot more.
Jasmine wasn't just a fling, Debbie loved her and trusted her just as much as she loved everyone else.
The actresses even said they were soulmates.
In my mind, they're happy in Scotland together with Zak and Jack.
