Drive me crazy make me mental, know all the buttons she can push
The ball went up. The ball went down. The ball went up. The ball went down. Thump. Thump. Thump. Steve grit his teeth and held his pencil tighter than necessary. He had taken time off to look after you. You were stuck on the sidelines and on crutches for a few weeks, along with a concussion. The two of you had been together for three years, married for six months.
You were tossing a ball up and catching it repeatedly. Your concussion meant your screen time was limited, something you had protested. Steve ended up having to take your phone and laptop away, locking them in a desk drawer, away from you for at least a little while. You had pouted and he was sure you would have stomped your foot too. When it came to you and injuries, Steve never took chances. He heard you sigh loudly as the ball clattered to the floor. He glanced up from the sketch he was working on to see you push yourself up off the couch.
âIâm gonna grab some food,â you said as you settled with your crutches. You refused to ask Steve for help, something that annoyed him to no end. You were supposed to be resting, but you were insistent on doing everything you normally did. You were pushing every button you could when it came to Steve. He knew it was a result of your boredom. Even reading a book was out of the question with your headache. He set his pencil and sketchbook down before standing up and following you.
You were humming along to a song as you moved around the kitchen, sunglasses over your eyes, a sure sign that the lights were starting to irritate you and your head was hurting. Steve made himself known, setting about helping you with making lunch. Once the two of you finished eating, he put your plates in the sink before scooping you up in his arms and carrying you to your shared bedroom. Daylight filtered through the curtains, giving enough light to see without being too overwhelming for you.
âIâll be right back,â Steve told you before leaving the room. While you were getting settled, Steve was making you a cup of tea and grabbing the book you had been reading. You looked up, seeing him return with your crutches under one arm, your book, and a cup of tea.
âReading makes my head hurt worse,â you reminded him.
âThatâs why Iâm going to read to you. If you want,â Steve explained. You smiled at him.
âIâd like that,â you said. Steve handed you the tea and set the crutches and book down before making himself comfortable beside you. You laid your head on his chest, listening to the rhythmic beat of his heart as he began reading to you, a smile on your face.
Steve glanced down at you, smiling as he saw how relaxed you were as he read. It didnât take long for him to hear your breathing even out as you fell asleep. He set the book down on his nightstand before falling asleep himself, an arm wrapped around you as you slept.
One second sheâs miss sentimental, then sheâs afraid sheâs said too much
It was date night. You and Steve agreed when you started dating that one weekend a month was blocked off from work. No missions, unless it was critical or an emergency. There had only been a few times where youâd had to ditch your weekend off to assist the team.
Steve had planned out the whole evening. It was the weekend of his birthday. He knew there would be a big barbecue on the 4th, complete with a drone show by Tony. But the rest of the weekend was his to do with as he pleased. His choice was easy enough. One of your favorite things was going to the beach. While the shore was crowded for the holiday weekend, the Avengers compound had a private beach alongside the lake that wasnât far from where private residences were being built for each of the Avengers.
The plan was to build houses for the people who worked alongside the team. The compound was secure. Steve had been adamant in making sure that a safe place to live was available to those who worked for the Avengers in any capacity. Those homes had had the priority in being built. It was one of the things you loved about Steve. His determination to ensure the safety of those around him.
The Avengers had their own private section of the beach. It was there that Steve set up a romantic dinner, complete with string lights, just as the sun was beginning to set. Steve had help from the team in setting things up. A table had been set up, a picnic basket beside it. As the two of you approached, you smiled.
âI remember our first date,â you said. Steve laughed. He remembered it too. It was a disaster. Heâd taken you to the beach in Jersey, only for everything to go wrong.
âIt would be hard to forget, sweetheart. Not every day you see a clown get chased down by a group of angry mothers,â Steve replied.
âIâm pretty sure that was the day I knew I loved you. You gave up trying to blend into the crowd to help someone. And spent the next three hours taking pictures with anyone who came up to you. I remember thinking how youâd make a great husband, a great father someday,â you told him. You may have been married but you had never rambled like that to Steve. You had a lot on your mind and it seemed it all wanted to come tumbling out.
âReally? On our first date? Think I have you beat there, sweetheart. I was sure you were the one before I even asked you out,â Steve replied. You laughed. As the two of you finished up dinner, you were nervous. You had something big to tell him. He may have done the planning on the date, but you had done some planning of your own.
âI have something for you,â you told him. In your bag, you had a small wrapped gift. Steve looked at it, curious. He peeled back the wrapping to reveal a seashell.
âSweetheart?â he asked.
âItâs from the beach where we had our first date. Actually, itâs from our first date. Flip it over,â you told him. You saw the moment it clicked for him. Inside, you had painted it white and carefully painted the words Baby Rogers, coming this winter. You knew you would be due sometime in February, though you hadnât been to the doctor yet.
Steve stood up, coming to where you were sat and he took you by the hand. He pulled you up and into a kiss before he turned on some music and pulled you into a slow dance. As the two of you danced, the summer evening came alive around you.
When you love her, no matter the fight you know sheâs always right and thatâs alright
You were six months into the pregnancy and Steve was busier than ever and so were you. You were benched from missions for the obvious reason. That didnât mean you werenât still working. You usually oversaw the comms while the team was on missions and you handled intelligence as it came in. It was growing late and you were still in your office. It was critical to a mission that was due to depart the next morning. You wouldnât usually stay as late as you were, but it was critical, life or death type of things that you were working on.
âSweetheart?â Steveâs voice came. You looked up. He was standing in the doorway of your office. He was one of the few who had permission to enter as he pleased.
âI have to get this done, Steve,â you said, your tone sharp.
âYou need to come home. This canât be good for you, or for the baby,â he said.
âSteve. I mean it,â you snapped. You could feel a fight coming on. You hated fighting with him.
âSweetheart, youâve been locked up in here for hours. Have you even eaten?â he asked. You looked up, a glare on your face.
âFor your information, Steven, Pepper checks on me every three hours on the dot. I ate an hour ago. Now please let me get back to work because this is important. I donât have time to deal with you being overprotective and overbearing,â you said.
âI just worry about you. You know that,â he said with a sigh.
âI worry about you too. I promise, if this wasnât important, Iâd be home in my pajamas already,â you said.
âI know. Youâre right. Iâm sorry,â he said, coming over and kissing the top of your head.
âYou worry a lot, Cap. Iâll be home soon. But, yâknow, I wouldnât mind some company. Just as long as you help instead of distract me,â you said.
You hated arguing. You and Steve didnât disagree often, but when you did, you were both quick to resolve it. With him helping you, it wasnât long before the two of you were turning the lights off and heading home.
And I know that we can get emotional, but the hardest parts are always worth it
Steve had been due to return two days prior but was caught up in the public relations side of being an Avenger. The Prime Minister of the UK had invited the team that had been on the mission in the UK to a dinner, which led to obligations with the royal family. You were frustrated. He was supposed to be home and you were due any day.
And now you were in labor, alone. The entire team, aside from Wanda, Bucky and Peter, had been on the mission. Wanda and Peter had run out to grab some things for you and the midwife was en route to the compound. Bucky was trying to make contact with anyone to get Steve back as soon as possible since he wasnât answering his phone, with no luck. With more families on the grounds, the medical building had a section devoted to maternity, including rooms that were designed to be more comfortable than a hospital room.
You held your phone to your ear as you called Steve for what felt like the hundredth time. This time you went right to voicemail. You were upset. You were sobbing by the time Wanda and Peter arrived.
Meanwhile, Steve was pacing around. You had called him no less than twenty times and heâd been unable to answer. He hadnât felt his phone go off in his pocket, not until he had stepped outside for some air. His phone died as he was about to call you, having finally managed to slip out of the dinner. He cursed under his breath. Natasha found him and held up her phone.
âBucky just called. Something was jamming the signal in there. Sheâs in labor. And sheâs a wreck. Call her. The rest of the team is staying here. Something tells me our work here isnât done. But you and I? Weâre heading back now,â she said. Steve found your name in Natashaâs contacts, calling you immediately.
Back in New York your phone rang, Natashaâs name lighting up. You were surprised to hear Steve on the other end.
âIâll be there as soon as I can, sweetheart. Something was jamming phones. Natâs flying me home,â Steve rambled. You sniffled. Your tears had subsided once Bucky informed you he had managed to get ahold of Natasha.
âYou should be here already,â you said.
âI know, darling. I know. Iâll be there in a few hours. I know itâs not ideal,â Steve replied. He stayed on the line with you for as long as he could.
He ran into the room just as your midwife was preparing to tell you to get ready to push. He had cut it close getting there. He held your hand as you pushed, assuring you that you werenât hurting him, that you were strong, and reminding you how much he loved you. It wasnât long before a cry pierced the air. Your daughter was placed on your chest as you cried. Steve looked down at both of you, eyes watery and a smile on his face.
âSheâs perfect,â you whispered.
âMy girls,â Steve replied, a kiss on your head as you both looked at her before a nurse had to take her to get checked out.
You smiled when you saw Steve hold her for the first time, your heart melting at the sight.
Seeing her smile will get you every time, because you love her
Steve stood in the doorway. You were dancing around the living room, your daughter in your arms as you moved. It was hard to believe she was nearly a year old. You turned and looked at him, a smile on your face as you motioned for him to join you. When he did, he spun you around in a small circle, before bringing you close. Moments like those were the moments where he remembered just how much he loved you and how much he always would.

The crisp autumn air had you in a good mood. You were finally cleaning out the car youâd had since high school, getting ready to sell it. It wasnât a total mess, but there were things that you had never taken out of it, too lazy, too busy, too this, too that, to ever properly clean the car out. It had been years since you graduated. You had finished college and moved towns. You kept contact with a small group. Natasha, Wanda, and Sam were three of your best friends, the only ones you really still spoke to.
You had dated Steve Rogers, captain of both the ice hockey and baseball teams your senior year. The two of you had been inseparable since childhood, together from the awkward days of the seventh grade until you broke up three days after graduation. You had moved across the country for school. It hurt. You had thought youâd be that couple, the high school sweethearts who went the distance. With your breakup, you stopped talking to him, to Bucky, to Tony and Clint too. It was natural with time and distance.
You knew Sam, Tasha, and Wanda were still friends with him. You knew from Tasha that his number was still the same. You also knew he was single. You tried not to dwell on that, on the what ifs. You had decided you werenât going to contact him. It had been too long. It would be too weird. You werenât far from home, but you were living in the city now, which was what had prompted you to finally sell your car. You were fortunate enough to have a driveway but it was more of a hassle than it was worth to drive.
That car had seen ups and downs. It had seen you crying after homecoming senior year when Dot spilled fruit punch on you intentionally, ruining your dress. But it wasnât the dress you were crying over. It was her words, the fact that she would do something like that. It had seen you laughing in the backseat with Steve when the two of you snuck away from the group that summer when youâd gone to the lake, wanting time away from your friends. Steve had broken up with you from the passenger seat, when you were dropping him back at his house after bringing his car to the shop.
You were startled when you found an old hoodie of his, the name of your high school emblazoned across the front with the mascot and the word hockey, his name and number on the back. You had had that one since sophomore year, giving it back every so often after washing it, for Steve to wear it for a couple days before you âstoleâ it back. You sniffed it out of habit, surprised to find that there was still the subtle hint of something that was distinctly Steve. Maybe it was in your head. Maybe it wasnât. But in that moment, the memories flooded back. You pulled it over your head, feeling like you were seventeen again.
You: Found your hoodie in my car
You sent the text, and immediately regretted it. It was too forward. Too much. You hadnât spoken to him in so long. What if he didnât have your number anymore? Before you could go too far down that road, your phone buzzed with a text.
Steve: Didnât expect to hear from you today
Steve: I mean itâs just been a long time
Steve: How are you?
The texts had a couple minutes between them, making you chuckle to yourself. Some things, it seemed, had never changed.
You: Good, good
The two of you spent the afternoon talking. It was as if you had never fallen out of step with one another. You were surprised to learn he was in the city too. Working days as an elementary school art teacher, while doing lessons on the side when he wasnât preparing to show his own art. It was something Steve had always wanted to do. You were happy for him.
You were still texting him that night as you got ready for bed. He told you he was single, something you had known already, not that you would have admitted it. You had already known Bucky was serious with Natasha. Nat was still one of your best friends. The two of you made plans to meet up for coffee the next afternoon, a Sunday. You were surprised to find out that he frequented the same hole in the wall shop as you. The two of you managed to never run into each other, your schedules never aligning.
You were fine, until you started panicking about what you would wear, how you would act, and if it would be awkward. It had been years since you had last seen Steve. You found yourself calling Natasha.
âYou rarely call this late. Whatâs going on?â Natasha asked. You glanced at the clock. It was just past ten. You knew Bucky was out of town visiting his sister with his parents. Natasha normally would have joined, but work was keeping her busy.
âIâm meeting Steve for coffee tomorrow. I have no idea what to wear or if itâll be awkward. Nat this was a mistake,â you rambled.
âHold on a second. Youâve been talking to Steve?â she asked.
âI texted him today when I was cleaning out my car. I found an old hoodie of his,â you explained.
âHow often do you clean out your car that you never found it after all this time?â she asked. You sighed.
âThatâs what youâre focusing on? Really?â you questioned.
âItâs a valid question. But now it makes sense why he was suddenly glued to his phone when we were at Samâs,â she explained.
âRight, he needed help moving stuff today,â you recalled.
âBut back to the more important thing here. You and Steve were talking today?â she asked.
âYeah. I didnât think he was going to text back. And then one thing led to another and weâre grabbing coffee tomorrow to catch up and god I feel like Iâm back in high school,â you said.
âIâm going to video call you. Weâll figure this out so you stop stressing. This is Steve weâre talking about. Heâs been just as hung up on you as you are on him. You could wear a burlap sack and heâd still love it,â she said.
âI am not hung up on him,â you defended. You heard her snort as she broke out in laughter.
âAnd Iâm married to Prince Harry. We can both lie here. Come on, weâll get this sorted,â Natasha replied.
The next morning you were nervous as you locked the door to your place. It wasnât a long walk to the coffee shop. You spotted him as soon as you walked in. He had two cups of coffee in front of him. He looked toward the door as he heard the bell above it ring, waving you over. You smiled when you saw he still remembered your coffee order.
âYou look, beautiful as ever,â he said. His cheeks flushed. He was still the same Steve in that regard. He was always so cautious about not crossing any boundaries.
âStill a charmer, I see,â you teased. You lost track of how long the two of you sat there talking. After you both finished your coffee, you stood. Steve held his arm out to you and you didnât hesitate to loop yours through his. The two of you walked through the neighborhood, still talking about anything and everything.
âIt feels like no time passed,â he said, a tinge of regret in his tone.
âAnd yet weâve both changed. Both grown. Iâve missed this,â you admitted.
âCommunicationâs a two way street. And neither of us chose to take the chance to walk down it until now,â he replied.
âI was so angry in the wake of our breakup. And then I was hurt. And you were seeing other people and it felt like another stab to the heart. Because you moved on so quickly,â you told him. He sighed.
âIâm sorry I hurt you. I felt like you were going so far away, that you were going to meet someone who had bigger aspirations than being an art teacher, that youâd realize you were wasting your time with me. Itâs no excuse. I was eighteen and so stupid,â he said. You laughed.
âI canât think of a single one of us who had life figured out at eighteen. Iâd like to think that this was something we needed. Time apart to grow. I donât know where weâre going, Steve. But I do know I donât want another day to pass without you in my life, be it as a friend or more,â you said.
âI donât want that either. Iâve missed you far too much to make that mistake a second time,â he replied. As the two of you walked, you arrived home, only to learn Steve lived just down the block. In your mind, too many things had aligned to pull the two of you back together to ignore. As you walked up the steps to your door, you turned to face Steve. He brought a hand to your cheek. A subtle nod from you led to his lips on yours, an electrified feeling passing between the two of you.
As you parted ways, he promised to text you as soon as he got home. And he did. You squealed as you moved around your living room, hopeful about a new chapter beginning in the story of you and Steve Rogers. His hoodie sat on a chair, the sunlight casting a glow as you began to plan a date with him, the pieces finally falling back into place.

Summary: As the two of you prepare to get married, Steve thinks about the day the two of you met
Features/Warnings: Pure Fluff
Pairing: Steve Rogers/Reader
Notes: Day Five of Steve Week! Iâm not overly happy with how this one turned out.
Word Count: 1048
A soft breeze carried the scent of burning wood and fresh cut grass across the land. Fairy lights lit up the tent in a gentle glow as the sun began to sink over the horizon on an early autumn evening. He couldnât focus on anything but the feeling of excitement and anxiety that welled inside him as friends spoke to one another in the crowd that gathered. He was grateful that this one thing wasnât turned into a spectacle for the world to gawk at. No, this was for the two of you.
Music started and he saw you appear in the doorway to the tent. He found himself breathless as he took in your dress, a smile when he saw your shoes. A new pair of white Converse that just barely showed under your gown. You had fought tooth and nail to have your wedding your way. Relaxed and with close friends and family only. No government officials. No foreign dignitaries, aside from TâChalla. Just you, Steve, and the people you cared about most. Your dress was simple, something you found on the sales rack at the mall and fell in love with.
Your engagement ring had been just as simple. A sapphire instead of a diamond. Tony had tried to talk Steve out of getting a ring that had no diamonds, but Bucky and Sam had both steered him away from being involved in that process. You had no interest in the so-called finer things. No, you were happy with just Steve. And that was part of what made him fall in love with you.
âYou look beautiful,â Steve said softly as you reached him. His voice was already beginning to waver. The setting sun was hitting you just so, a glow fell around you. You looked like an angel, his angel. Steve could recall every detail of the day the two of you met.
Snow was falling outside and the city kept on moving. Steve found himself sitting in a quiet diner, not far from the compound. The bell above the door rang, his head snapped toward the door. There you stood, shaking the snow off. You looked like you had been out in the cold for a while.
âGood lord, you look like youâre freezing. Sit, sit,â the older woman who owned the diner said to you. Steve noticed the shake in your shoulders as you sat down, trying to warm yourself up.
âWhat happened?â the woman asked. You sighed.
âI was about a mile down the road and my car broke down. I knew I shouldnât have trusted Dylan to fix it up when his dad was out of town,â you said, shaking your head.
âWhy didnât you call me?â the elder woman asked.
âAunt Maudie, you have no idea what kind of day Iâve had,â you said before launching into your story. Steve tried not to eavesdrop, but with his hearing it was near impossible. He listened as you called the local mechanic, who assured you theyâd get your car in before the roads got too much worse and it was buried. Steve decided to take a chance in that moment and stood up to move to the counter where you sat.
âIâm not in the mood, buddy,â you said before turning to face him. He knew you recognized him the moment you saw him.
âStill not in the mood,â you said, a little more gentle in your tone.
âSounds like youâve had a rough day. I can give you a ride?â Steve asked.
âIf it were any other person offering Iâd say no. I was heading to the Avengers Compound anyway,â you said.
âOh?â he asked.
âYeah. Itâs my first day. Well...technically move-in day. Iâm working with Dr. Banner,â you explained. It clicked for Steve.
âYouâre his new research assistant, right?â he asked.
âYeah. He was actually my advisor when I was in college,â you explained. It wasnât long before you and Steve were on the road. Your stuff was already at the compound, having been moved there the previous day. You were in the same area as the Avengers because of how closely you were going to be working with both Dr. Banner and Tony Stark. Steve watched as you introduced yourself to the team. It felt like you fit in effortlessly. He knew in that moment, he was a goner.
His thoughts began to drift. Different moments that reinforced to him just how much he loved you. Your first date. Your first kiss. The time he took you to Coney Island. The walks the pair of you would go on around his old neighborhood when you were in the city. The day he asked you to marry him. All of it flashed in his mind as he looked at you.
The ceremony was a blur. All Steve knew was that he loved you, and that was all that mattered. You almost squealed when he pulled you in for the kiss at the end of the ceremony. Steve could hear the laughter of your friends as the two of you headed back up the aisle.
Photos were done quickly, daylight fading around the pair of you. But neither of you could find yourself caring about the photos. No. All that mattered was right there with you. By the time the two of you were sharing your first dance, the sun was below the horizon and the moon was shining down. Steve looked at you as you moved around the dance floor.
âI donât think Iâve told you enough today, just how much I love you,â Steve told you. You smiled at him, something that would never fail to melt his heart. You had a power over him no one else did and no one else ever would.
âI love you too. Forever and ever,â you replied as you pulled him into a kiss. The pair of you danced the night away, and as you departed, a shooting star passed overhead. Steve watched as you closed your eyes and made a wish. He didnât need to make one. No. His wish came true the day you walked into the diner. As the two of you drove away, you settled in beside him, ready to take on forever by his side.
