Violette hadn’t noticed the shift in atmosphere — blissfully unaware of any change at all as she took another drink from the cup in her grip. She’d lost Waylon somewhere along the way. And while the conversation had been pleasant, it was obvious neither were truly there for a date. They were both so obviously preoccupied by other people that she found the whole ordeal a little humorous. That, of course, hadn’t stopped her from putting on a flirtatious show, if only because she hoped James would see. It was juvenile, she knew. But, he made her absolutely crazy and the witch didn’t know how to handle it, other than pushing him away as hard and as far as she could.
That, however, wasn’t important now as the lowly, foreign growls met her ears. She still hadn’t put the pieces together — hat something was truly out of place here.. not until Mayor Sweeny… Mayor Sweeny? Oh, God. Violette froze in place, able to do little more than stare as the dead rose, dragging their decaying bodies through the cornfield and into the opening. Her chest tightened, her mind screamed to run, but her legs refused to cooperate. It wasn’t until a hand clasped her shoulder, spinning her around that she snapped out of her trance, dropping the solo cup to the ground. “James,” she breathed, a second of relief easing her nerves, as her eyes darted from his face to the growing number of undead. “There’s nowhere to go. Th-they’re everywhere.” Turning back around, she moved beside the man and slipped her hand into his, her shaking hand giving away the level of fear she felt. “Oh my God. What do we do?”
The panic radiating off of the blonde was something he rarely experienced with Violette. Her fidgety form, the shaking hands, all of it gave it away – her words only further confirming that. All he could do was clench his jaw, because he, too, felt the same. How were they even meant to get rid of these creatures? Every time another zombie pushed his teeth through the skin of a perfectly innocent human, his heart sank. This needed to be stopped, somehow. “I know, okay? I know,” Doug murmured, giving her hand a tight squeeze once he felt hers slip into his. The question that followed was one he was still trying to find the answer to.
For a while he stayed silent, as his eyes took in their surroundings. He had to do something, but then again, all he wanted right now was to get the witch beside him to safety. Little did she know she was his main priority, even though he wouldn’t ever admit to that. Turning his head slightly to look at her, he gave her a pointed look. “Don’t panic – whatever happens, don’t panic. I got you.” He wasn’t just trying to calm her down, but also himself. His feet took a few steps back, pulling the blonde along with him as he tried to distance them from the crowd of growling corpses. “Stay with me at all times, you hear me? Don’t leave my side.” Though with every second that passed, more seemed to come through, nearing them. Turning his head to take a peak behind him, Doug cursed under his breath as he saw there were emerging zombies from behind them, too. “We’re gonna get cornered soon if we don’t run.”
