“Oh I’m sure, Miss Lovato. You’ve been pretty busy with dropping that new one I’m sure.” he gave a friendly smile, taking in all that she had to offer physically. It was a bit weird seeing her after so much time had passed. Like they’d aged and matured, but only in the best possible way. From being kids to now having their thirties creeping up. “Long as in … 24 hours. Just kidding.” He chuckled, pushing his sun glasses up. “Probably a week or so. I had one with Joe when he had a BBQ for Fathers Day.” He nodded his head in response to her, respecting her own decisions wholeheartedly about her addiction. “I think it’s good that you know what you can and can’t do. Just remember if it ever becomes overwhelming, it’s okay to take a step back and change your own limits. Nothing wrong with that.” Nick supported her in every way, mostly because he didn’t know what he’d do without her.
He ordered them two micheladas, which he loved because this place did it JUST right. Not too spicy or salty, but just to the aim of perfection. Once the brunette had ordered her food, he went after with his pick of verde enchiladas paired with rice and black beans. His hunger was growing by the second, working up quite the appetite for something as delicious as this lunch he’d been craving for years, right where he sat now across from her. “Change is pretty good. You know, you look really good, Dem. I’m happy you’re sticking true to yourself and just being strong. I love that about you,” He admitted as he bit down on a chip that was drenched in choppy salsa.
“Honestly, I’ve been bored and not busy at all” she laughed shaking her head slightly. Demi looked up at him and just couldn’t help but smile everything about him just made her calm, like nothing would ever go wrong around him. Demi let out her famous whole hearted laugh and bit her lip “how is Joe and Sophie? I bet they’re amazing parents” she whispered thinking about the old joe she knew. “Thank you, it took me awhile to figure it out, but now I know my limits so it’s great. But thank you for supporting me Nick” she mumbled.
Demi was playing old memories in her head from all the times they came here together, and now here they were making new memories. “Yes it is…thanks Nick that means a lot to me.” She whispered pushing her hair back slightly. “So what else has changed about you? Besides you getting hotter with age” she teased.
“You bored? I don’t believe that for one second. You’re always up to something.” He smirked, unable to hide his facial expressions. No matter how hard he tried, they just had this karmic chemistry that made it impossible to hide from. “Oh yeah...really great parents. They’re like pros. If you saw Joe, it would make you so happy. It’s like he’s just..happy now. Complete.” Nick took a drink of his water, letting the sappy moment pass. Emo moments weren’t exactly his favorite yet it was a theme for today. “I’m glad you’re doing well. Sorry I keep saying that..“ he shook his head, a massive grin plastered across his face at this point. “I’m just so proud of you. And I’m sorry I haven’t been around in years to tell you that.”
He pushed himself back in his chair, enjoying the relaxing lunch. No papparazi, yet. No interruptions. He hadn’t even had a thought about what Joe or Pri would think, which was fucking amazing. Nick was at peace. “Well.. let’s see... I got married, the Jonas Brother’s got back together. I became an uncle again. I’m still that dork who likes to tickle a woman named Demi.” He cheekily admitted. “Okay I probably shouldn’t have said that but I couldn’t help it.”
