Having been given the chance to enact as part of the dais at a Model United Nations simulation, I want to give tipps from my personal experience.
Attending the Research in Europe event, I was able to get a good overview over scholarship and funding opportunities for researchers in Europe.
Whenever we hear research results and read reported data, we should have a closer look. How can we evaluate such numbers and make sense of empirical data?
Not in all countries, gender equality is written into the constitution to make men and women equal before law. How does gender equality appear in reality?
Welcome to my blog about all things science, politics, and studying! I try to share some insights from current research, yet also from my own experience.

Dear internet,
Please give me all the advice you have on writing cover letters. Like, the closer you can get to literally just writing a cover letter for me, the better. Ok bye.
This is how I did the one for my librarian position. Â I hope it helps.
Dear Person Hiring for this Job,
I am writing to ask you to consider me for X position. Â This is a paragraph about why I want to do X position in general. Â It includes at least one personal detail and at least one job skill I consider a particular strength. Â It argues that I am passionate about this career. Â It is not long.
I have had the opportunity to gain experience in this job by - paragraph about my work or study experience. Â It should go from most recent experience back. Â Include some details about your responsibilities/achievements in your most recent or most important positions. Â If you have mostly study experience, give more detail about what exactly you studied. Â If you shadowed people, mention that. Â If your work experience is largely unrelated, try to shoehorn some of it in (e.g. I gained experience working with people by). Â You can supplement with relevant hobbies. Â (But if you do have recent, relevant work experience, you should largely be detailing that. Â Only embroider the other stuff if you need to flesh it out.) Â This should be the longest paragraph.
I hope you will consider allowing me to do X thing at your company. Â This is a few sentences about why I want to work at your company in particular and what I think I could bring. Â Try to mention at least one detail from the company website, so they know you visited it. Â This is a short paragraph that parallels the first one.
Thank you very much for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Person You Would Be a Fool Not to At Least Interview
oh my god thank you this is relevant to current interests
Two other points, to challenge whatâs being said above a little:
1) Remember that the person reading this cover letter wants to know how you can contribute to the company. Not how excited you are about the position: itâs all about what they gain. Try framing the whole thing in that sense â âYou would gain my X awesome skill that would help you Y with your mission.â âHereâs why Iâm awesome and a great fit for making your company go better.â
2) At the end, ask for the interview. âI am available at PHONE NUMBER at your convenience. I look forward to speaking with you about this great opportunity soon.â Maybe even say youâll be following up at a specific time and date. Ask for the job. People respond to that, and itâs a good way to fake confidence until you make it. Ask for the job.
Okay, three points. People reading cover letters get SO BORED going through them. Think about starting off with a story that relates to why youâre interested in the job, or that demonstrates a skill or a strong interest that would make you a good candidate. Be memorable â people remember stories, even (maybe especially) very little ones.
*hoards advice*

Back to School/Uni Tips!
Iâm headed into my 3rd year of uni, so I thought Iâd make a post sharing my tips on how to do well in school, not burn out, and keep your mental health relatively stable.
1. Snacks - seriously, donât leave home without at least 2 substantial snacks in your bag. If youâre go-go-going all day and suddenly your sitting in a lecture about to crash cause you havenât eaten anything all day, youâre gonna want snacks. Some suggestions: Cashews (theyâre not super loud/crunchy, so theyâre perfect for lecture snackinâ), a granola bar, an apple, cherry tomatoes, trail mix.
2. Donât buy the textbook before you go to your first class - Iâve worked at a university bookstore for 2 years, and every year, people end up buying 700$ worth of first year text books, and then they donât even use them. Wait. and then wait some more. If there are required readings, then get the textbook, if your prof says there will be questions from the textbook on the exam, then get the textbook, but trust me, for 90% of first year classes (and a lot of other ones) you donât need the textbook. SAVE YOUR WALLETS
3. Take notes efficiently - honestly the best way to take notes, is type up the lecture notes that are provided, BEFOREHAND, and then during lecture, fill in the blanks/add information/take down any important things your prof is saying as you go through the lecture on your laptop in a different color. This way youâre much less likely to miss any important information, you wonât be confused about what to take down, and you wonât fall into the trap of taking down notes that are already being provided to you. After class, or while making study notes, copy these notes out by hand to remember what you learned.
4. Keep it simple - pretty notes are GREAT if you have the time, but once you get to upper level uni, and you have 100 slides of notes to turn into study notes, you will not have the time to make your notes look aesthetically pleasing. Just get the info down so you can focus on learning it.
5. Have a designated study space - i did all of my highschool homework and studying in my bed, and 90% of the time, I ended up falling asleep. My bed wasnât going to cut it for uni, so I got a cheap ikea desk, and itâs made me so much more organized and productive.
6. Take as much âyou timeâ as possible - take a bath. light candles. binge watch a tv show. veg out with a book for 4 hours if you have the time. do your makeup super special one day. get yourself that venti pumpkin spice latte with extra whip whenever you feel like it. Uni is a shitty time Iâm not gonna lie. Itâs stressful as f*ck, and whenever you can spare a couple hours or a couple dollars to TREAT YO SELF, do it.
7. Â If you have anxiety, CUT THE COFFEE. caffeine is a huge trigger for anxiety. Caffeine takes away from your sleep, messes with your adrenalin systems, and can make you super paranoid and anxious all the time.Â
8. If you think your in the wrong major, change it - I started in geology, and I HATED IT. Now Iâm in psych and I love it. It is never too late for a change of program. If you think youâre doing something you donât wanna do, or your not enjoying it, donât do it.
9. For mornings you have to be ready and out the door, or if youâre a person who always runs late, have a getting-ready routine and get it down pat. Have a mental list of things you need to do, and things you need to remember, and find out how much time it takes you. Get up at 8am, shower, wash face/brush teeth, get dressed, do makeup, pack bag, remember keys, wallet, laptop, notebook, pen and train pass, have breakfast, put on shoes, leave by 9am.
10. Utilize your time in transit. - finish a reading, go over flashcards, read study notes, listen to an album youâve been meaning to listen to, read a book, read some fanfic, idk but donât just sit there unless just sitting there is what you need.
11. Find a hobby or passion that is separate from your school/uni life. Whether its playing sports, or running, reading, collecting plants, making scrapbooks, curating a refined taste in tea, having baths, writing in a journal, find something that if youâre bored with watching shows or studying, you can go do it, and enjoy it, and get your mind off all the other shit thatâs going on in your life for awhile.
My mind has been all over the place these past few days because Iâve got 3 assignments due on Monday, but setting aside a little bit of time to keep my desk tidy seems to work wonders. (Even if itâs just another form of procrastination) â¨

planning out my new semester!
I woke up really early and enjoyed the cold morning air :â) I can feel that autumn is arriving! đđ I just feel so comfy and at peace during this season :â) what do you like about autumn?
Motivation is overrated. No amount of motivation wouldâve gotten me through hours of my accounting textbook. No âvisionâ is enough to keep me awake til the crack of dawn on an essay that I donât even know if the professor will check. Discipline is what determines how far you go. On those days when your cute little list of #goals and vision of yourself 5 years from now arenât enough, discipline will pull you out of bed and get you to work. I wish I knew this in high school because I thought I couldnât work without motivation. I wasted so much time trying to find purpose before I realized that working now, albeit blindly, will ensure that I could chase any purpose I discover in the future. Sure, motivation is crucial, but itâs not consistent. Itâs not reliable. You can only rely on yourself and your grit.Â
