Why We Can’t Resist To Click and What The Notre Dame Fire Will Teach Us • Swipe and make sure you look at the images first! • Then… • Read these headlines below... • "$1 Billion Raised From Billionaire For Burned Building While One In Five French Go Hungry" • "Why Notre Dame Donations Are Provoking Hatred Towards Billionaires" • "Jesus Sighting in Notre Dame Flames Causes Uproar" • "Notre Dame Cathedral Fire: Jesus is Spotted While Cross and Altar Still Standing" • Which one would bait you to click on it? • As in which headline and which images would make you want to click on it and read more content? • Now, if you don’t know what clickbaiting is...let me explain it to you. • Clickbait involves any text or thumbnail image link that is designed to entice users to follow that link to read, view, or listen to the linked online content. • This is what advertisers and marketers do every day! • The point of this post is to help you understand the importance of understanding how our minds work. • You see, all of us operate in a world full of emotions and reactions. Why? Because we’re human, that’s why! • Meaning, we don't really see the world as it is, we simply view the world as we feel and think! • There is something called Confirmation Bias. This is a cognitive bias that helps our brain make decisions. The confirmation bias is favoring information that conforms to your existing beliefs and discounting evidence that does not confirm it. • So... • Let's say you're a miser or a person who detests money or people with money… you'll most likely go with clicking on the first and second headlines. • But let’s say you believe in Jesus, you'll most likely go with the last two headlines. • Which one would you have clicked on? And do you believe companies who sell you stuff will twist words/images to manipulate your hope, faith, trust, fear, and insecurities? Let me know in the comments. • -Jeff (at Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw4YhjcjTuv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=193la7i6j4ryr
