get to know jackson jekyll and holt hyde :
For the first sixteen years of his life, Jackson always thought he was a normal human kid. Of course he knew his father had fire magic and that his mother was a Jekyll-Hyde monster, but as far as he was concerned and knew he himself was just well… a normie. But that was far from the truth. In actuality, he had the same cursed gene as his mother, giving him an alter ego that for the longest time he knew nothing about.
As a child the Jekyll-Hyde was triggered by the rising and setting of the sun. During daylight hours Jackson was in control but as soon as the sun went down, rather than going to sleep like he always thought he actually turned into Holt Hyde. Holt, living on a completely different schedule than the rest of the world, always knew of their curse. It wasn’t a secret his parents kept from him the way they did Jackson. He had also inherited his father’s fire magic, so there was no confusing him for just an average human anyway.
The double life continued on for all of their childhoods - Jackson attending a human high school and Holt partaking in online courses in the monster world at night. But on their sixteenth birthday, everything changed. No longer was the transformation from Jackson to Holt triggered by the time of day, but instead by music. Any song with a certain tempo, any song played at a volume just a bit too high - that was all it took for Jackson to be gone and Holt to be standing in his place.
When this change in trigger occurred, their parents finally confessed to Jackson the truth about his life and he was transferred to Monster High - where he was seen as the only normie and made fun of almost endlessly until the first time Holt came out and put an end to that bullshit.
Monster High is where they also both met Frankie Stein and each fell in love with her. And miraculously, she loved them both as well. It was a hard relationship to get used to - Frankie having two boyfriends who were kind of brothers, kind of the exact same person… But over the years, throughout all of high school and college they managed to make it work.
Neither Holt nor Jackson can remember anything of their time as the other ego, but they’ve learned how to communicate with each other over the years - each having their own cell phone, they could text each other things they needed to other to know, or go more old school and just leave notes hanging around their shared space.
Jackson has always been the brains of their operation, while Holt was the brawns. In college Jackson double majored in both chemistry and biology sciences while Holt studied music theory. Jackson has always been more of a homebody (in part because he can’t really actually party or go out much without… you know, turning into Holt) while Holt was the wildchild. They’re opposite sides of the same coin and can often drive each other mad. There was no real relationship between them for a very long time, each despising and resenting the other - but thanks to Frankie over the years they’ve grown to see the other like a brother. One that often gets on their nerves, but that they still care deeply for regardless.
For the longest time Frankie was the best thing they had in their lives, and honestly… each of them would probably argue she still is, even though they’re no longer together. For Jackson the breakup had hurt, but he holds no harsh feelings towards her - understanding that she wanted to branch out from the life she always knew and explore the rest of the monster world on her own. But Holt… well, he still struggles with accepting the end. He says it doesn’t bother him and acts like he’s fine, but deep down he’s actually really angry and hurt. It was actually Holt that suggested to Jackson that they move somewhere else, needing to get away from the place where all he could see was Frankie everywhere he went.
It had taken a lot of convincing, but once Jackson got into Echo Isle phd program for biophysics he finally agreed. It helped that they would know at least one friendly face, with Draculaura moving there around the same time. When she found out the boys were planning to follow her, she was quick to set them up with a permanent room at the Hotel, which they accepted as well as signing up for student housing. This is the first time that Jackson and Holt have each had their own free space to call their own. In the past their apartments have always been shared - but now Jackson could call the apartment the university set him up with his home while Holt had free reign over the room at Hotel Transylvania.
Holt works as a DJ at the underworld as well as having his own pop up gigs for different parties and events. Though Jackson wanted to be a full time student, with the whole Holt factor of his life it simply isn’t possible - so he takes half the course load he wants and then also works as a tutor for undergraduate students on the side for some extra cash.
