well… im back! heres what ive been up to…. the following is my section of the build book that me, @fairytailfanatic, @dailydelusi0ns, and @akaneenaka33 made for our Hail Mary Residents cosplay! prepare for lots of jankiness, this was incredibly fun to make and we were simply overwhelmed with the love we received from our fellow con-goers :’-)
some notes:
everything was made on a major budget, like…everything that wasn’t clothes was made out of cardboard and tape. no regrets it worked
for this leg of the project, making Armando took roughly 50 hours spread over 3 weeks.
we did SO much research for Armando… there was LITERALLY NOTHING when we started planning him out :’-) more has come out over time, which i am BEYOND thankful for… (i’m kind of curious..am i the first Armando cosplayer?? EVER??)
our cosplays got so much love, and we’re so grateful for all the awesome people we met :’-) if you recognize us, tag one of us in your photos!!! we didn’t win any awards, but the wonderful community we felt this weekend outshines any prize we could have gotten🤍 we send the love back a thousandfold, -Hail Mary Resident Armando 🤖💉

anyone that talks to me about project hail mary can vouch that armando is my beloved robot son,, but what if he wasnt a robot,,,,,
headcanon canons below the cut!
his name is Boonmee*/Armando (half thai and hispanic, Armando is his english name) and was used as a main medical consultant (since he’s specialized in coma nursing) for the NannyBot during the mission. in this au, the robot designs continuously fail and it becomes clear that a model suitable for the mission won’t be ready in time for takeoff. with some behind the scenes work (because Yao would hate this), he is prepped last minute to board the Hail Mary and take care of the crew himself.
before takeoff, Armando was already a quiet person. similarly to Grace, he didn’t have much family or friends to lose by going on the mission, and wasn’t terribly put off by the idea of hurtling through space for several years and dying in the great unknown if it meant his life would be somewhat more interesting and comfortable than it was on Earth.
after being isolated on the Hail Mary for years, though, he’s nonverbal by the time Grace wakes up. for the first week or so, Armando is in constant work mode making sure Grace is okay (may or may not have a little anxiety about his health after he wasn’t able to save Yao or Ilyukhina) while also trying to let him figure out who he is and what he’s doing on his own. being nonverbal obviously creates a communication problem between the two, but with the ✨power of friendship✨ (known also as Grace refusing to have another person there and not be able to talk to him) they find several ways to communicate that improve over time (gestures, notes, tts, etc).
once Grace meets Rocky, Armando is fairly content to be in the background while they do their things, checking in occasionally make sure Grace is taking care of himself. after the initial shock of Rocky moving into the Hail Mary, Armando warms up and adjusts to him fairly quickly.
he’s very happy on Erid, being on a simulated Earth reminds him of the little things he used to miss about home, and as Grace says, he does in fact like the fresh air
a lot of this is probably/definitely unrealistic or underexplained, but this concept has been gnawing at me for so long and if a human design is what it takes to make people like armando then so be it look at my son isnt he perfect

( * the text on Armando’s arms is thai, and after some digging it spelled out Boonmee, a name that means to have good karma/to be lucky. thanks again @fairytailfanatic for helping me figure this out 🙏)
I was finally able to grab a screenshot of this logo on Armando today for the Armando cosplay I am helping @jellibabie create. Only to be stopped by the fact that I can't read Thai (I am 99% sure it is Thai because he was created by Thai researchers and it looks like simplified Thai)
That being said can anyone smarter or less sleep deprived than I figure out what this says, question
of course when talking about ryland grace’s teacher moments everyone talks about the whole “my hand is up” scene, but did anyone else notice how he acted when he dropped to rocky that he wasn’t going home?
getting down to “eye level” with rocky, being bluntly positive the whole time, going through all the motions you’d expect him to go through with one of his students. and thats likely just the go-to way he drops bad news being a middle school teacher, but oh god it kills me when he realizes that rocky actually CAN help him, this whole declaration that he’s not going home doesn’t HAVE to be final. grace makes AND breaks my day aaand post
rocky may be the size of an earth dog but he is 168 kilos and strong as hell whereas grace is a wet paper bag. one of these two is being carried by the other and it is not the one you think
I think that we as fans of George are letting a big opportunity disappear at not encouraging a book, documentary or film be made about George and Olivia, I mean, their story is a freaking fairy tale
How they meet, how George tried to find her after weeks of just talking to her, the party, the tour, how he put her eyes in the freaking record after months of just being together
How she literally save him not just of the madman but to everything that happened in the dark horse tour, Dhani, their many many projects together.
She save him from that madman, the quimio, india, their vacations alone, she by his side in the last moments.
THE POEMS, SHE BEING THERE WHEN THE BEATLES ARRIVED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AMERICA, IN THE FREAKING AIRPORT SEEING THEM CROSS THAT DOOR, SEEING HIM!!!
Is a lot of opportunities and I hope that in the biopic at least she appears at the end bc in the more and more you know about them, more you love them 🩷🩷🩷
