while I agree that whiteness and Judaism is more complex than just "white Jews" I think a lot of jumblr exhibits the same kind of "foisting whiteness on others to avoid guilt" that they accuse goyim of doing. you can't just post "Jews aren't white" and wipe your hands clean of any racism in Jewish spaces

Actually if you open any page of any orthodox Jewish prayer book it talks about a return to Israel /zion as in Zionism so it kinda is. Zionism is a part of and inseparable to Judaism.

the mikveh is lovely, the rituals for conversion are wonderful and moving. when i hopped into that lil pool i really did feel like i was being hugged by the presence of comfort itself.

i'm glad you've found your way home to judaism. they say a converts soul was at sinai, don't they? congrats on meeting up with us!!!! your community loves you!!

i am always in awe of the moral and physical courage of Rabbis for Ceasefire for continuing to put their bodies and reputations on the line to advocate for stopping a genocide. and for living the Jewish values of loving-kindness (chesed), seeing every person as created in the image of G-d (b’tzelem elohim), and the importance of the preservation of life over any other commandment (pikuach nefesh). these rabbis are living proof that critiquing israel and/or being antizionist is NOT incompatible with being observant, and that those who say so operate in bad faith

purim is coming up!! i'm pretty sure my shul does a costume event for the main celebration, so i wanted to dress up but... no matter how much i try to stop feeling cringe, i can't emotionally bring myself to do an anime cosplay at a religious event. i am begging for advice y'all, i gotta work up some courage, because it'd be evil /light hearted to NOT use one of my perfectly good cosplay!!

My rabbi wrote an article about the dilemma many American synagogues & communities are now facing after having accepted Department of Homeland Security grant funds for security upgrades. These funds came with strings that those applying thought would never actually be relevant: the requirement to fully cooperate with ICE. If this is your community, the article also has suggestions for what you as an individual as well as what communities as a whole can do now to continue to defend our neighbors. No one should ever be put in a situation where their safety requires them to compromise another's and now that the Trump administration is forcing American Jews to make that choice, I urge you to follow the article's advice. Question your synagogue leadership on if they took DHS security grant funding with these terms and what they plan to do about it now if they did and push for defiance of these terms and continued defense of immigrants in your community.

while i do find it real sad in some ways lots of jews in fandom reasonably aren't very open publicly about their jewish-ness (at least, in my personal fan spaces, but i 100% get it), it DOES make it funny to find out a fellow fan is also jewish. its usually a "oh for real? thats crazy!" moment we giggle about.

once someone apologized to me for not being "jewish enough" to immediately grasp my lame joke about two characters being reuben and yosef kind of tragic siblings. i did feel bad. its never that serious... like, go read some midrash, you'll totally get my vision friend! just kidding of course, but its silly and we did laugh about it.

i also kinda think its funny how much i am the "Active Jew" (as in, i am personally and voluntarily active in our local jewish life), even amongst my fandom younger jewish peers. its an oddly unique experience!! i find it fascinating, if not so. much. pressure!! (kidding)

"tikkun olam" means the repair of the world & is often understood today as social justice. 16th c. Kabbalist Isaac Luria taught that "sparks of holiness" are embedded throughout creation & our work is to elevate them. i personally find beauty in both of these interpretations!

today, i went to shul for a tu bishvat event! if i'm being super honest, tu bishvat has never been a holiday i'm like... itching to celebrate or anything. sure, its neat, so i do enjoy it. yknow, i just generally like others more

however, this year it was really delightful! our shul is surrounded by trees, so we hung out beneath them. we were encouraged to journal or whatever, and i ultimately decided to do some quick drawings. i did end up feelin' kinda guilty because we were meant to share our stuff if we wanted to, but i was too busy furiously scribbling in the back, behind all the chairs HAHA.

it did end up feeling nostalgic that way, i guess?like huh, the years do continue in cycles. ten years later i'm still focusing in on a drawing in a little sketchbook while listening to a lesson, like i did in school when i was 11...

those trees around shul have been there for a very long time and most certainly for more than a decade. i dunno, theres probably some talmud wisdom on this topic (...as with everything haha) but something about the entire experience made me feel like a kid again. its probably partly that i felt short in comparison to the giant trees, and also the drawing thing

admittedly, in the 6th grade, i really just wanted to go home, which is why i sat there drawing during class. today, i had no such immediate desire. i was sitting there drawing in service because i was having lots of fun and wanted to stay longer.

it felt like the climate just renewed its promise. that one day i would feel fulfilled and happy in these cold-ish january & february months. the trees can blossom with me ten years later, and we can both be rejuvenated for the spring. yknow? you know.
