love to meet new people, usually happy to chat a bit about subjects near & dear to my heart, but this is not my first rodeo: no anon asks, i block nonsense ♥
a few favorites from the many altered key pendants i'll have with me this weekend at Yet Another Queer Pop-Up Market. i've been collecting the keys for years & it's very exciting to finally be doing what i want with them! the metal decorative elements on some of the keys come from a box of castoffs from a 1910s costume jewelry factory (lucky find 15+ years ago that i've been slowly working through). finding the right size quartz points for the hollow clock key tips is oddly satisfying!
don't worry, the human teeth are modern acrylic resin from a dental supply shop. i attach them to the key shafts (that have no bits of their own, they're sewing cabinet keys) with an epoxy sculpting material that i color-match to each key with metallic pigments. figuring out how to sculpt faux-metal is honestly changing the sculpture game for me.
Claves Somniorum, 2026
a concept i've been iterating on for years now (there are physical versions of some of these! you'll get to see them later) - finished up this illustration to make a 5x7 print for some upcoming local markets, but it'll be available in the next Etsy update too (??/2026). there will also be a sticker sheet with a slightly different layout & background! we're going all in on weird keys this year.

The Winter Maw, 2026
a totally handmade, fully-functional marionette created for the annual "Winter Exquisite" gallery show (this year's chosen medium was puppetry) at the Forbes Library in Northampton, MA - if you're local, you can visit anytime between the 7th & the end of the month!
for the winter theme, i designed a monster that blends my appreciation of this season's beauty with a more sinister, predatory element representing struggles against seasonal depression. bringing her to life was a huge learning experience & i got to try out a lot of new materials/techniques - i'd never made a marionette before! she took me all January but i'm very pleased with the result.
WOW. I'm local enough to sometimes visit Northampton, but over in NY near Saratoga so unsure if I'm local enough to visit within the next 8 days. 😄 Dang, and we just got snow and freezing rain today.
This piece is AMAZING, though. What will you do with it when it's done in the library? What is the *exact* last day it will be there?
thank you! the exact last day this show will be on view in the library is Saturday, February 27th. at 12:30pm on Sunday, Feb. 28th there will be a closing reception "puppet pageant" where puppeteers will perform and/or demonstrate & discuss the puppets. this is also open to the public!
when i get her back, i will attempt to find somewhere safe in my house to gently hang her up & store her so that my cats don't rip her to pieces. at some point i'll try to take some video of her too.

"tikkun olam" means the repair of the world & is often understood today as social justice. 16th c. Kabbalist Isaac Luria taught that "sparks of holiness" are embedded throughout creation & our work is to elevate them. i personally find beauty in both of these interpretations!

Notes:
I couldn't identify all the stuff in the vulture pile, so I went with sticks, a bone, and some treasure items. I feel like it would be worth doing this as a vulture wearing a crown standing on a cornucopia of bones and treasure, but I don't want to do that right now.
All of my art (not OP's) in this post should be CC BY-SA 4.0 licensed, a bunch of the inputs had share-alike licenses and I don't care to pick apart which ones. I can send source code if given a place to send it.
I am not wedded to my color choices. I wanted to stick to the main heraldic colors and have good contrast, and from there I made decisions like "well, I want the bones to be white and the crown to be gold, and black is kinda vulture-y", "a precious key should be golden", "vertical stripes can indicate red", and so on.

old work, new zine! STRAGGLERS is a collection of pen (& some Copic marker) drawings spanning a period of about 7 years, selected from assorted sketchbooks, index cards, loose paper & artist trading cards. many of them were briefly visible on various social media platforms in the 2010s (if you've been following me here for 10+ years, you've seen a few that have since disappeared!) though some have never been uploaded anywhere until now.

Hi there! I'm a small-time ceramicist in Chicago who does mostly one-off pieces that I either keep for myself or sell locally (mostly to friends) and I was hoping for your permission to do a piece based on your b'tzelem elohim print? I was thinking about a bench-style shabbat candleholder with an image based on yours as the main decorative element on the back plate, but i haven't actually started sketching yet.
I wouldn't mass produce your design or anything -- just sgraffito a magen david like the one you designed onto a single piece.

hi! thanks so much for asking - i certainly don't mind you doing a one-off piece that's based on or inspired by the print.
if you're actually fully replicating my design, i'd of course love a credit/link if you post it online anywhere (& i would love to see it!), but from the way you phrased your ask i'm not totally sure whether you're wanting to recreate my linocut with all its patterning, or just make something with that kind of symbol (the trans + star combination) on it.
if it's the latter, i'm sure i didn't originate (and certainly don't own) the concept! i can only claim ownership over my own stylistic interpretation - which you are welcome to use with credit, but if you want to make your own version of the symbol in your own style, i wouldn't consider that to be something you'd need my permission for.
