It started with a glance.
And eventually, you realized you werenât the only one watching.
It all traces back 2 years ago when you had recently gotten a new job at this company where all you had to do was show up, print some documents and be obedient. Thatâs what you did until another newbie came and took an empty spot next to your desk, you didnât mind much off it since your job didnât really required talking or team work.
While you went out of the main desk area to the small kitchen ,where most employees met up to talk or grab a snack or coffee, you saw this guy who looked straight out of a drama, like as if the gods took years sculpting his perfect face. He had a toned body and this aura that you couldnât explain properly.
But to your luck right when u caught that glance at him he walked out and disappeared off somewhere in the big building⊠you shook your head trying to get yourself out of the trance you weâre just in and walked over to the small counter where u made your usual coffee still not able to forget about who he couldâve been.
After that day you hadnât seen him for a whole week making you forget about the encounter. As after that week you weâre working, completely exhausted and took a small break pushing yourself away from your desk and leaning back onto the chair while letting out a soft sigh looking up at the plain white ceiling every typical office has.
While looking up a started hearing footsteps coming closer to your desk, at first you ignored it until someone sat down next to you, quickly you stole a glance to see who because that desk has been empty ever since you came to wrok here.
The guy from the kitchen you had already forgotten..
For a second you just paused and pulled yourself back to your desk and looked the other way while writing a whole lot if nothing on your keyboard trying to seem busy so he wouldât try to talk to you.
He seemed completely unaware of you trying to hide from him. You heard him place some papers on his desk and pull his chair closer to his desk.
âHi.â He said looking at you, who was still trying to act as if you had way too much to do. His voice made you snap out of it and you stopped the loud typing and turned your head to look at him akwardly.
âHeyâ you quietly answer after a few seconds and looked back at your computer, too shy to have small talk with the new guy.
He noticed your shy personality and thought you weâre too scared to talk so he spoke up again.
âIâm San by the way.â
You looked at him again and hit him with a smile and answered with just one word
There was a akward silence between you as you both looked around the quiet office filled with keyboard tapping and occasional whispering.
âI know.â San said after all of the silence making you look back at him confused âhow?â You ask him
âI mean⊠itâs written on your desk.â He points at the little name tag that was on your desk you had forgotten about and you âoh..â you laugh trying to escape your slight embarrassment.
Of course⊠how else would he know your name?
He turned around and started placing his new stuff onto his desk making you look away too to start working again.
You could hear every small movement he made.
The occasional sighs he let out.
Placing things on his desk.
And every once in a while you caught him taking sneak peeks at you.
At first you convinced yourself he was just looking at something else, until you saw him looking again.
And this time you both made eye contact, he also didnât look away. He smiled at you as if you didnât just catch him look at you for the 10th time in the past minute.
Something about him made you nervous, not in a bad way. Just enough to make you curious about who he was.
And thatâs how it started.
It first started with you searching for his name, just curiosity nothing moreâŠ
You found his social media within minutes, his account wasnât private.
You scrolled through his endless pictures, looking at who liked it and who commented. Learning every small thing about him.
The places he liked to visit.
Where he goes on vacation most of the time.
The people he seemed closest to.
You had told yourself you would stop after five minutes.
But five minutes quickly turned into thirtyâŠ
And thirty became an hour.
And eventually you knew more about san than you had known about anyone else in your office you had worked for for years.
You hadnât noticed how serious it was becoming due to the excuses you made each time looking at his socials.
You hadnât noticed yet, because each time you saw him at the office he made your obsession worse.
Heâd smile at you, ask how your day was, sit next to you during lunch, bringing you coffee in the morning, âŠ
It made you feel special.
That made you notice his routine.
When he arrived, which elevator he used, where he eventually went during breaks, when he would leave work
It wasnât difficult, you just observed.
Atleast thatâs what you told yourselfâŠ
This one evening you stayed at work a little longer than usual. Most if the office was empty , you packed your things and felt disappointed for some reason. It was because San wasnât thereâŠ
You left the building and started walking home. Halfway there you heard footsteps behind you. You slowly turned around.
You shrugged and continued walking. A few seconds later you heard them again⊠you stopped, starting to feel scared. Right when you stopped the footsteps stopped too. Your heart skipped.
You looked behind once more, still nobody. You eventually reached your apartment and unlocked the door as quickly as possible.
When you finally got in you made sure the door was locked. You didnât think much about it after that.
Until the next morning, you walked into the office and saw San already sitting at his desk. He looked up at you and smiled just like he usually does.
âMorningâ you replied
Then almost casually he said âdid you sleep well?â
You nodded âyeah, why?â
You stared at him for a second before sitting down yourself, while looking down you noticed something, his shoes, the same ones you briefly noticed behind you last night while walking home.
You immediately dismissed the thought. That was ridiculous, there was probably hundreds of people with those shoes.
You finally gathered your thoughts and started tapping away on numerous documents on your computed just like normally.
You both didnât say anything about it, but for the rest of the day you couldnât stop thinking about it.
Because San knew something you didnât.
Thatâs when you realized you never told him your coffee order even though he made your coffee perfect, nor did you tell him where you lived but somehow you always saw him thereâŠ
He hadnât been walking behind you by accident, he had been following you.
Just like how you had been following him.
And unlike you⊠he had been doing this long before you ever noticed him.
