Hey so can I request Helena losing control of her magic, what would happen? How do you think mc would handle it, would she be able to help her control it again. Or would Helena end up hurting mc, maybe like scaring her for life or something? Maybe it happened after an attack by the witch queen and Helena panicked when she thought mc was going to be taken from her?

Here you go, hun! I’m so so so sorry this took me so long, literally life and writer’s block got in the way(I’m terrible, I know)... but I hope this was worth the wait! Also I don’t know if this will make up for the time - and if you even want to - but please feel free to request some extra from me. You definitely deserve it for being so so patient with me. Again I’m so terribly sorry.
Happy reading everyone~ ^.^

How can something be so beautiful yet so ominous? This day is just that to one and only Helena Klein. It’s been weeks since they had fought and defeated the Witch Queen - her former master - and her armies yet the sorceress has failed to feel at ease. No matter how she looks at it she can’t help this uneasy feeling, that something is amiss. That the battle isn’t over yet. She sighs as she runs her hands over her face, her elbows resting on the balcony's edge. Even a gentle summer breeze isn’t enough to calm her nerves. Something is going to go down soon and the celebration down at the village is going to be the stage for the tragedy. She just knows it. Looking up to the distance she can just barely hear the joy of the people and almost see how they don’t have a care in the world. Oh how she almost envies them. Just almost for she’s always rather aware of the dangers than ignore them. That way she can try and fix it. But on moments like this she can’t do anything but do what she hates the most. Wait for it to happen.
’’Helena?’’. Startled Helena quickly turns towards the wooden doors as you have suddenly appeared out of nowhere, softly calling her name. Upon seeing you though she smiles warmly, her eyes shining with love just for you.
’’Hello, my love. Did you need something?’’.
’’I just wanted to check on you. What are you doing here all by yourself?’’ you ask her as you join her to enjoy the view.
’’I just wanted some fresh air. This day, although very beautiful and joyous, feels a little… off’’, she says, clearly bothered by something. You quickly pick on it, raising your eyebrow just slightest bit.
’’Is that why you didn’t wish to attend the party?’’ you ask, trying to figure your lover out.
’’Well… Not exactly’’, she takes hold of her chin in thought:’’I have this feeling that something or someone is going to ruin the party. The more of a reason for me to be there, correct? But I chose to stay back, hoping it’s just my preference when it comes to crowds and people. Also...’’. She turns around eyeing you up and down, her eyes saddening slightly in clear worry.
’’I wish to keep you company and make sure you are well. Which reminds me, have you been feeling well? Nothing hurts or aches even a little?’’.
You can’t help but huff a laugh as you smile widely but nonetheless sweetly. This is so common for her nowadays. You wonder has there been even a day when she hasn’t asked you that or at least something similar. It is true that you suffered quite a deal at Witch Queen’s hands and your recovery has been quite slow - having near to no pain for only about a week - but you’ve pushed through and Helena has been more than helpful with your recovery. Although as much as you love her for her caring protectiveness she really needs to start letting it go. What happened is in the past now and you both got through it, there’s no need to even think about it anymore. And yet you always find her looking guilty over it every time you catch her looking at you. Will she ever forgive herself for it even though it wasn’t even her own fault?
’’Darling, I’m fine’’, you tell her softly, taking her hands in yours and holding them between the two of you:’’I’ve never been better, all thanks to the most beautiful sorceress in the world’’. You almost snicker as you notice a blush dusting her cheeks but by some miracle you manage to hold it back. This is pretty serious topic and she needs you at your most serious right now. Okay, (Y/n), you got this!
’’But are you sure you don’t feel ill? O-Or don’t have nightmares? A-Are you mentally-?’’.
’’Helena’’, you call out her name firmly, squeezing her hands slightly as you stare into her eyes softly yet seriously:’’Rest assured I’m fine, you have nothing to fear. You have taken more than good enough care of me and I’m forever grateful to you for that. But you should take care of yourself too. And please stop blaming yourself, it wasn’t your fault’’.
Helena shakes her head slightly, looking down at her feet:’’You needn’t concern yourself with my well being. It is you that I’m worried about and I won’t rest until you have fully healed. I won’t...’’. Her hands squeeze yours back harder but not enough to hurt. Even in moments like this she’s afraid of causing you any type of pain. Your eyes tear up slightly at the thought. If only everyone would have seen right from the beginning how amazing this woman would become.
’’Helena, I appreciate you taking care of me but please do remember that I won’t allow you to work yourself to exhaustion. If I must I in turn will take care of you’’, you bring her hands up to your lips and kiss her knuckles:’’I hope you know that I would do anything for you, no matter what it takes’’.
She looks up again and is ready to protest but you hurry on before she gets a chance to. You kiss her sweetly on the lips, lingering as she doesn’t hesitate to kiss you back and hold you close. This might not erase the remaining gloomy feelings she has over all of this but you take this as first step to right direction. As you are nearly all healed you wish to take care of her in return. After all, you may have suffered a great deal but you can only imagine what your lover has gone through. You pull back and look deep into her eyes, resting your hands on her shoulders.
’’As long as we have each other there is nothing that will separate us. Even if we’re in two different dimensions I promise I will find my way to you and never let you go again. You are everything to me and I see no roads that wouldn’t lead me to you. No matter where the future will take us we’ll always be together to face it, I promise’’, you vow, cupping her face between your hands. Helena seems to melt at the gesture, nuzzling your hands as one of her own takes gentle hold of one of them, kissing your palm. It’s a miracle how you’ve found such an amazing person as her and how she glided her way into your arms, taking you in hers with intent of never letting go. You wonder this on a daily basis, just how can you be so darn lucky? She seems to wonder the same thing, that certain look of wonder apparent in her eyes. Smiling the two of you lean in for another kiss…
BOOM!
Startled the both of you separate, taking a step back and looking at the town's direction. You gasp at the sight of a huge cloud of smoke: ’’W-What was that?! Are we under attack? But... Who could it be...?’’. You turn towards Helena almost jumping out of your skin again upon the expression she has pulled over her face, small flashes of lightning sparkling around her. The hollow and dark look in her eyes can mean only one thing. Witch Queen.
’’Helena-’’.
’’I’m going to their aid. You stay here and wait for our return’’, she says coolly, already walking away from you.
‘’What?!’’ you shout, absolutely perplexed. She can’t be serious!
’’Helena please, I can fight and you know it! I can help you’’. She stops just near the door frame but doesn’t turn to face you.
’’(Y/n)... You know how dangerous it could be... If she indeed is still alive I have no idea how much stronger she truly must be’’, she tries to reason, her voice even which could fool nearly anyone but not you. You still hear it shivering with slightest bit of fear.
’’Helena, I want to be there for you! Please, you don’t have to face these things on your own. What if something happens to you?’’.
’’What if something happens to you?!’’ she quickly whirls around, her dark eyes blazing:’’I’m not losing you! Not today, not tomorrow, not ever! I’d rather die than see you hurt in any shape or form!’’.
You know all she wants is to keep you safe and sound, but knowing she means every single word you get a shiver of terror that runs along your spine. It honestly scares you how serious she’s about these things, that she’d risk her life for you so willingly. But what about you then and your future together with her? What about all of that if she is gone?
’’Helena, please...’’, you plead taking careful steps towards her:’’I know how you feel - I feel the same about you - but we should do this together! Together we can keep each other safe and together we can win this battle’’, you try to compromise, gently caressing her cheek as you finally reach her:’’Just please, let me be there for you...’’.
Helena closes her eyes, furrowing her brows tightly. She seems to be conflicted but takes your hand in hers nonetheless, holding it like a rare and fragile flower that would wilt away at the slightest of touch. That is why you’re only merely surprised when she opens her eyes again, all too familiar determination shining in them. Oh no…
’’I’m sorry, my love’’, before you can even reply she has already pushed you back and cast a protective spell around you. No one can get in but neither can you get out.
’’But I have to do this. For us. For you. And this is the only way to keep you safe’’.
’’Wait, Helena! Please, don’t do this to me! Helena! HELENA!’’ you barely get to scream her name when she suddenly disappears in to the thin air, the teleportation circle remaining for a few more seconds before it too disappears leaving you all alone on castle’s balcony. No no no no no! How can she do this to you! You know she only wants to protect you but you want to protect her too! Without thinking you launch yourself at the barrier’s wall, fumbling back as the solid surface doesn’t give. This doesn’t discourage you from trying again though. The love of your life could be in danger and you refuse to idly sit by and wait for her to come back. If she even comes back. Each strike is stronger and more desperate than the last but it isn’t until both of your shoulders are definitely bruised that you finally sit down exhausted and try to think of another way out.
’’Okay, okay… Go through your brain, (Y/n)… Remember what Helena once said about barrier’s like this and how to get out of one… There is a way, I just know it’’, You speak to yourself as you try to collect your breath, your eyes searching for some kind of clue as to what should you do. Just a second later you notice it, a spot that seems to be a little thinner than others. It’s really hard to spot unless you have a keen eye which you are very grateful for right now. Getting back up to your feet you get right to work. So it’s pretty high up and you have nothing to throw it with so you do the next best thing. Brute force. You back up a few step before running straight towards it, jumping a bit so you can hit it with your fist. Bullseye! But once is not enough, you expected as much of Helena’s spells. You jump again and again, getting more determined each time upon seeing it crack under the pressure. Hitting it one final time you’re ready to cheer in victory as the barrier breaks into pieces but another huge explosion stops you. It reminds you that you have to hurry, you’ve wasted enough time as it is.
You run around the castle trying to gather everything you could possibly need for the upcoming battle. No time for armor so sword and shield will have to do. You stuff your waist bag with potions that you and Helena brewed, and soon after you rush to the stables. Wasting no time you jump on your favorite stallion and glide through the roads and fields, your thoughts raising to the rhythm of your steed’s running hooves.
’Please, oh please, be alright Helena...’.
~..;*o*0*O*0*o*;..~
THUD and CRACK that comes along with it ring around the battle field. Groaning in pain Helena gets up from her crater as she tries to form a plan. What is she going to do? She isn’t going to win like this, especially on her own - somehow the Queen had gathered herself a powerful army that others are too busy fighting against - but she can’t use her full power either, otherwise everyone around her would be in danger. But she can’t let the witch win…
’What am I to-?’
Her thoughts are interrupted by a cackle that comes from right above her. She looks up glaring at the woman she dared to once adore.
’’Oh Helena, what have they done to you? You have become so weak since I last saw you. Surely you didn’t think you got rid of me for good’’, Witch Queen says icily as she settles down to the ground level while Helena gets up on her shaky feet.
’’Or perhaps...’’, the Queen tilts her head mockingly, her smile as taunting as it’s icy:’’You still care for me’’.
The fire gathering in Helena’s hands reflects in her eyes, her glare so heated it almost makes even the Witch Queen shiver:’’In your dreams, you hag!’’.
A steely eye twitches as icy blue lips turn into a snarl, teeth bared like that of a feral beast.
’’You know better than to call me anything but ’my queen’, dearest Helena’’, the Queen spats, getting ready for her next attack. She’s so keen on keeping an eye on her former apprentice and the dancing flames that she merely has time to dodge a sharp silver dagger that passes her head by mere inches. Raged and shocked she quickly turns around.
’’Who dares to try and harm me?!’’.
’’I do!’’ you announce as you settle down from your horse’s back to the battle field:’’And there’s more where that came from!’’
Witch Queen stares at you in shock, clearly not expecting you in the least. That too quickly vanishes however and a calculating expression takes over her face as she keeps her gaze between both you and Helena. She could take advantage of this.
’’(Y/n)?! What are you doing here?! I told you to stay put!’’ Helena shouts once she recovers from her own shock.
’’I’m not letting you fight alone, Helena. I’m here to protect you as you would protect me!’’ you tell her as you get ready to attack with shield and sword in hand.
’’Oh my dear little bird’’, Witch Queen says with exaggerated sigh, her tone of voice clearly sarcastic:’’Didn’t you learn anything from last time?’’.
Suddenly - not giving you much of a chance to prepare - a swarm of ice daggers flies your way but you manage to shield yourself just in time. Slightly staggered you prepare for an attack but Helena beats you to it. In a flash of blue flames Helena is relentlessly delivering blow after blow at the enemy. Witch Queen has even difficulty keeping up.
’’Leave her out of this’’, Helena hisses menacingly between blows.
’’Oh but didn’t you know, my dear?’’ Witch Queen jumps back which gives her just enough time to prepare:’’Never bring your heart to a witch fight’’. Using her wits the Queen lets a spell go past Helena, aiming it right towards you. Just as she predicted Helena’s attention turns to you and that’s when she attacks, sending poor sorceress flying across the field.
’’Helena!’’. You get distracted as well and you forget all about the spell that lands right at your feet. Like a bomb it explodes and the sheer force of it sends you flying. You land on your side painfully, struggling greatly to stand up let alone move. All too late you notice you had dropped your means of defense and offense, leaving you bare handed. Great, just great… Just when you thought this couldn’t get any worse a pair of familiar shoes fill your vision and a dark chuckle reaches your ears. You barely move your head to glare at Witch Queen’s smug expression.
’’Not so high and mighty now, are we’’.
Refusing to give up - and to prove a point - you do first thing that comes to your mind. You grab Witch Queen’s ankle tight and with all of your might you manage to trip her and watch with satisfaction as the oh-so-regal Queen falls on her back. Not wasting any time you gather all your strength and willpower to climb on top of her, wrestling, turning and twisting her until she lays on her front, her arms twisted behind her back painfully by you.
’’Not so high and mighty now, are we’’, you mock her, a gleeful smirk dancing across your lips at the sight of the quietly raging woman beneath you.
’’You are pretty strong, I give you that. But...’’, Witch Queen huffs, suddenly going very still. Before you can even consider her just giving up the tables are suddenly turned as a beam of ice goes past right between your eyes, distracting you long enough that Witch Queen has time to wrestle you to the ground. She ends up on top of you, holding your hands above your head with one hand as the other goes for your throat, choking it.
’’You will never be anything compared to me!’’ she declares, her hand on your throat emitting icy cold. No matter how you try to struggle she has you right where she wants you: beneath her, completely at her mercy with no means of escape. You prepare yourself for this fate, praying Helena will pull through no matter what, when something unexpected happens. All of a sudden she falls off of you by the sheer power of some type of dark force. It doesn’t take long to find the source of it either. Helena has risen to her feet, dark magic swirling around her like a forming hurricane. She looks almost feral: dangerous glint in her darkened eyes, teeth bared in a furious snarl, her trembling form hunched and heaving like that of a beast that is ready to bounce on its prey. Anything that comes even near it will be damned. You’d be lying if you said that you’re not at least a bit scared by her in this moment. Just what happened to her?
’’Didn’t I tell you to leave her out of this?’’ even her voice is as dangerous as she looks.
’’Helena-!’’ but you don’t get to finish your sentence - your desperate attempt to calm her down - as the bitch has reappeared on scene. The attack clearly did a number on her and yet she still stands. Just how strong is she?
’’My oh my. It seems the beast has been awakened’’, she feigns neutrality but it’s too obvious she’s more than thrilled with the outcome. Her facade doesn’t even last long, in seconds it drops to all too familiar cruel smirk and mocking tilt of her head which, you notice, makes Helena flinch even in her current state.
’’Did I perhaps struck a nerve? Jog a memory from our little special time together? Aww poor thing. But don’t worry, perhaps your little lover would join us this time’’.
’’Helena, don’t listen to her! Fight back, I know you can pull through!’’ you try to encourage her but even you know the damage has been already done. You flinch back as Helena’s eyes turn completely black, her dark power growing stronger by the second.
’’Ah yes, she will do nicely. I wonder will it be as much fun to break her as it was to break you’’, Witch Queen laughs wickedly, not in the least concerned with the situation. Bad mistake. Battle begins again. Helena quickly gets the upper hand, not giving Witch Queen time to attack. But that’s just it, from what you can tell she doesn’t even try to attack, she is only running away. Something about it doesn’t sit well with you, that isn’t like the Queen’s style at all. As if to confirm your suspicion, while she avoids yet another ray of magic Witch Queen glances down at you with the most wicked smile you’ve ever seen her wear. This is no mere trap, this is a bait for something even you can’t begin to imagine.
’’Helena wait!’’ you call out to warn her but it’s too late, she is already after her target and won’t turn to even glance at you. You can only helplessly watch as the love of your life disappears from your sight into a battle which you know she can win but in the end can she win the battle against herself?
’’Helena...’’, you whisper to the wind, not noticing someone approaching.
’’Surprise’’, suddenly comes out of nowhere carried by a familiar voice. You gasp, startled, as someone warps their arm around you tightly and take hold of your throat with their hand, keeping you in place. You try to struggle but it is in vain. You’re stuck.
’’Fancy seeing you here, little bird’’. Upon hearing the voice again you turn your head to the side, coming across with Witch Queen’s wicked smile. You immediately glare at her.
’’What are you doing here? What did you do to Helena?’’.
’’Oh nothing. Yet anyway. While she has fun being distracted by a clone I thought I’d come see you’’, she says it as if this was any normal meeting. You roll your eyes at her, not phased in the least.
’’What, you’re getting out of tricks to throw?’’.
’’Quite the opposite, I still have plans to overcome anything. And you’re going to help me’’, she announces lightly. You don’t like her over confident tone, it irritates you more than you’d like to admit.
’’Why on earth would I ever help you in any shape or from? You’re really starting to sound desperate, Queeney, if a ’’mere worm’’ such as myself is supposed to help you. Ha, what a joke!’’ and you gladly spat all that right at her face.
’’I see you still got some bite in you. Do you even realize the situation you’re in? You should be afraid for your dear life and beg for mercy’’.
But you’re not afraid, not in the least. You know Helena will come to your aid or at least someone will. Besides the Queen reeks of last desperate attempt to get even. You guess you should be scared of that - after all desperate times call for desperate measures - but somehow you’re not. Despite everything you just scoff.
’’How could I be afraid of you? You’re weak’’. Silence falls for a deafening minute. Surely you didn’t shock her that bad?
’’What?’’. Alright you can work with this.
’’Just admit it. You. Are. Weak. Anyone with eyes could see that. You are nothing compared to Helena when it comes to power. Even now you are desperately trying to hold onto the little bit of power you have left. Without it you have lost. Face it, eventually someone will overpower you and that is the end of you. So how does it feel to do all of this for nothing, your majesty?’’ you ask, not sparing even a drop of your sarcasm. You soon come to notice that was a mistake on your part. Glaring she digs her nails into the skin of your throat as a warning.
’’Listen up, girly, and you better listen good. If you want to live to see another minute I suggest you cooperate. Now be a nice little damsel for me and stay put’’, she whispers in your ear through gritted teeth, her voice threatening. You resist the urge to spit at her. After all if you wish to stay alive and get through this you need to play it smart by not giving this bitch anymore of reasons to kill you right on this spot. No matter how weak she seems to you, you are certain she still has an ace up her sleeve so you can only wait and buy yourself time. Just long enough until Helena or someone else comes to your aid. As if getting called Helena arrives to the scene, her quite literal demonic aura flaring at the sight of you and the Queen.
’’Let her go!’’ Helena bellows, trying to keep her voice even but even you can’t deny the horror that seeps through.
’’Tempting but I have other plans. You see, I think I’d fancy a little game’’, the Queen makes ice manifest on her hand that lays on your throat, forming it to an ice dagger:’’I shall call it ’no matter what you do you lose’ ’’.
’’What are you on about?!’’ Helena barks, taking a step forward.
Witch Queen sighs as if bored, you can practically hear her rolling her eyes:’’Isn’t it obvious? No matter what you choose, my dear Helena, your little (Y/n) is going to die tonight’’.
The air grows still, even Helena seems to have frozen on place, unable to process what she just heard.
’’Y-You can’t! This is just one of your tricks, isn’t it?!’’. She’s getting desperate and you have a feeling that’s exactly what the Witch Queen wants.
’’Oh Helena, and here I thought you’d be smarter than that. I guess I was wrong’’. That careless attitude of hers makes you want to kick her where the sun doesn’t shine but as if she can read your mind she glares down at you in a warning.
’’It’s simple, really’’, her chilly tone is in odd contrast with her heated stare:’’If you wish to hurt me you have to hurt her in the process and quite likely kill her. But instead if you’d rather I finish her off that works just fine too’’.
’’No… You can’t...’’, Helena’s voice has gone down almost to a mere mumble, her gaze falling to her feet as her hands press against her head as if she was in pain. She is losing herself. May you be damned if you don’t at least try to talk to her.
’’You have to attack, Helena! Don’t worry about me, I’ll be okay! You can win this battle and defeat her! You got this!’’.
’’No… No...’’, whimpering Helena furiously shakes her head, her hands digging into her hair. She is so lost. So very lost in her own darkness and abyss that you don’t know what it takes to pull her back to the surface. Your attention is called elsewhere as your ears pick up an impatient scoff. Witch Queen is scowling at her former apprentice, her features like an open book to what she is thinking: pathetic.
’’Time is ticking and I’m tired of being patient. So what are you going to do, Helena? Will you kill your lover in order to get to me or...’’. Your breath hitches as the blade presses harder against your throat, drawing blood:’’Will you allow me to do the honors?’’.
It hurts you so to watch Helena struggle with what to do. She doesn’t want to hurt you but either way you’re likely going to die. The mere thought sends her over the edge, her fists tightening painfully.
Everything happens so fast. A flash so bright you have to shut your eyes, a scream of pain and rage barely registers in your ears before there’s a noise so loud you’re sure you will go deaf. Then nothing. Pure black darkness consumes you, lulling you to dreamless sleep.
As you come to, your eyes opening slowly, your vision is blurry and ears are ringing. You somehow feel both light and heavy at the same time. Despite it all you try to take in your surroundings.
’Where…?’ you wonder as you move to the best of your ability. You manage to pick yourself up and you lean against a fallen tree. Luckily slowly but surely after you manage to get your senses back. The remaining dizziness you can manage with. Mustering all your strength you look around the battle field to try and make sense of what just happened. What happened to Helena? Is she alright? Your wonders come to a halt however as you notice something moving in the distance. From the ground rises a wrecked form of a woman, painfully twisting this way and that before it finally rises on its shaky feet. Witch Queen looks absolutely destroyed. She’s not even half of the arrogant woman she was just moments before. Oh how badly you want to laugh at the picture but all you manage - for now - is a shit eating smirk as you watch her struggle.
’’What… Just happened...’’, she mumbles to herself which you barely hear. Your moment of celebration is shortly lived however when she manages to gather herself enough to have a look at her surroundings, her eyes landing on you mere seconds later. She glares at you with such venom you can feel it even across the distance that separates the two of you. She turns to fully face you, her whole presence screaming murder.
’Welp, this is where I get destroyed, isn’t it’.
But before she can even lift a finger Helena comes to stand over you, her body and magic shielding you from anyone and anything, especially her. Baring her teeth Witch Queen readies for an attack but all she manages is few week sparks, much to her own shock. Helena really must have done it to her. She is so easy to defeat now! All you have to-!
’’This isn’t over yet! Mark my word I’ll be back and I shall destroy everything you’ve ever cared for! Starting from that little wench!’’ by some miracle - perhaps from mere willpower and thirst for revenge alone - Witch Queen manages to muster enough power for one last spell. She teleports away only god knows where but at least for now she has been defeated. You turn to Helena with a huge smile plastered on your face, wanting to reassure her that it’s over but she beats you to it.
’’(Y/n), my love, are you alright?’’ she quickly turns around, panicking. She still hasn’t turned back to herself. This isn’t good. Is she even aware of this herself?
’’I’ll be fine, just a small headache’’, you say with a smile, trying to be comforting.
’’But… Were you hit? I-I didn’t hit you, did I?’’ she first reaches out for you but then she decides against it. You can’t stand to see her like this - being afraid of even touching you - but right now you have to be the strong one. Just smile, (Y/n), just smile.
’’Love, I’m just fine, truly. Now help me up and let’s find the others, alright? Then we’ll go back to the castle and we can sort everything else later’’.
’’But-!’’
’’No buts! I’m okay, see? I’ll be just fine!’’ you tell her cheerfully but it’s short lived when you finally register a painful sting on your left side. You look down carefully - in order not to get dizzy again - and see blood starting to seep through your clothing. Helena’s horrified gasp draws your attention back to her as you press your hand against your side.
’’Oh, well, this is just a minor inconvenience! I’m sure there’s nothing to worry abou-AGH!’’ you try to stand up only to fall back down due to the pain. With gritted teeth you dare to look down at your hand which now is completely covered in blood. You gasp at the sight of blood a bit fearfully, there’s a lot more of it than you first thought. Just then you make a big mistake that you will regret for the rest of your life. You look up and a second is all that it needs. You can see how Helena’s empty eyes are full of fear and regret as they gaze upon your form. It’s visible from her face, she thinks you’re afraid of her. Oh no...
’’(Y/n), I...’’.
’’Helena, i-it’s okay! It’s just a flesh wound, it will heal in a flash! Please, don’t be afraid, we’ll fix this together!’’ you try to coax her, flinching as your side stings when you try to move closer to her. Soon you realize that was a mistake as Helena fearfully takes a step back, shaking her head wildly as tears stream down her face, her magic growing rabidly around her.
’’I’m sorry… I’m so so sorry’’, she manages to audibly mutter just before she turns on her heel, running off to the dark woods.
’’Helena, wait!’’ you cry after her as she flees, her figure disappearing between the trees within seconds as you can do nothing but watch helplessly.
’’Helena...’’. Oh you stupid idiot! How could you let this happen? Why you couldn’t be more careful! This is the last thing Helena needs, you damn dimwit! But she doesn’t need this now either, you realize. You have all the time in the world to beat yourself up later but right now you have to find her. Determined you get up to your feet, hissing at the stinging wound on your side. Looking down at it you grimace at the blood that is wetting your clothes. Wasting no time you tear the hem of your shirt and tie it around you in desperate attempt to try to stop the bleeding. It’s no use, the blood is still coming through - surprisingly as you could tell it wasn’t that deep. Not that It matters, you have to find Helena. Immediately you run after her into the forest paying no mind to others screaming and shouting after you to come back. You dodge every tree, root and rock that might stand in your way to your lover. One would think it’s impossible to track her down - she is faster than most - but you have a good hunch where she is going. You have walked through this road with her a few times before to this beautifully breathtaking clearing with a large pond in the middle. This is a place where the two of you have come to relax and escape it all, even just for a short while. Now though it could become her place of hiding, place where she isolates herself as a punishment for everything she’s done. You won’t let that happen, she doesn’t deserve it. She is only afraid and she needs you more than ever no matter what she may say otherwise.
You seem to be getting closer, if the wind clearly caused by magic is any indication. Frowning your brow you run faster despite your side stinging like mad, begging you to stop. No! Helena is more important, the wound can wait. Just then as you pass through the last bushes you see her figure looking at the pond’s clear surface.
’’Helena!’’ you cheer just for a second before fully registering the condition she’s in - her form hunched over on the ground as ton of magic surrounds her - your smile drops faster than bag of bricks:’’Oh no...’’.
Without thinking you rush towards her and her magic lashes out at you, nearly hitting you but you pull back just in time. Your heart breaks at the sight, wanting nothing more than to reach your lover.
’’Helena please! Let me in!’’.
’’(Y-Y/n)…?’’, her startled whimper is so small that you almost don’t hear it:’’Please, don’t come any closer! I don’t want to hurt you any more than I have already!’’.
’’But Helena it was an accident! Please, I promise you I’m okay. I wish to help you!’’.
’’No! Don’t you dare get closer! I-I’ll hurt you! I know I will!’’ you don’t remember the last time you would have seen her this scared, if she ever has been. Not even when you were severely hurt by Witch Queen. But this is different. At the time you were hurt by someone else. Now you were hurt by her.
’’Please, my love… My dearest sweetest love… Leave me be and go back to the others. I don’t know much longer I can keep this up… I… I need to be dealt with. For once and for all’’.
Okay, that’s it. You’ve had enough. There’s no way in hell you will let her destroy herself like this. And if she does you will go down with her.
’’I’m not going anywhere!’’ you state firmly, your volume rising. Startled Helena looks at you just as you take first sturdy step forward, her eyes widening at the sight.
’’No… NO!’’ she screams as she moves to get up, clearly wishing to push you away. But she’s not fast enough. She helplessly watches as you push your way through with difficulty but your determination is what gives you strength to push and push.
Helena doesn’t know if to be amazed or absolutely horrified: once again you’ve proved your strength but now you are standing right in front of her, in the eye of the storm where for once it isn’t safe.
’’No no no, stay back! Please, get out of here! Now!’’ she screams desperately as she leans away from you.
Your frown saddens at her words, your lip trembling just slightest bit. You take a shaky breath before looking at her again.
’’Helena...’’, you speak gently, taking a step forward and kneeling down to her level:’’Please, let me help you. I know you are scared but please remember that you are not alone. I’m here to help you’’.
’’No… No! I will hurt you again! What if I kill you this time?! I can’t let that happen!’’.
’’It won’t happen because I know you, Helena’’, you lean in, eyes staring into hers:’’You can get this under control, I know you can. Let’s just-’’.
’’(Y/n), please, this isn’t under anyone’s control! At this rate me, this place, you will be destroyed!’’ she tries to reason as she looks frantically around. It is true, this once beautiful place is already crumbling apart and soon the two of you will go with it if you don’t act fast.
’’Do you think I care about that?’’.
Startled Helena looks at you again her eyes widening more if possibly at the sight of the tears that swim in your eyes.
’’W-What… are you saying…?’’.
’’I don’t care if I die today, I won’t live a life without you in it. As much as you would do this for me, I am ready to die for you. I’ll die with you if I have to’’.
’’(Y/n) (L/n)! Are you listening to yourself!? You have to get away! Please, run before it’s too late!’’.
’’I won’t leave you, Helena Klein. Not if I have any say in it’’. Before she can properly react you lean in towards her, your hands reaching for her own. Hastily she pulls them back, magic gathering on them.
’’(Y/n), wait-!’’ but before she can say anything more you take her hands in yours, clearly not caring about the magic in the least and you lean in the rest of the way until your lips find hers. Helena flinches but you stand your ground - you need to show her that you will love her no matter what kind of monster she believes herself to be and that you’ll always be there for her no matter what. With a shaky sigh she slowly but surely eases into the gentle kiss, relaxing just the slightest bit. Taking your chance you pull away, sadly watching the tears falling down from her closed eyes. You reach out for her, cupping her face in your hands and your thumbs wipe the tears away. You realize you don’t have the time to lament over it for it’s now or never.
’’Come on, sweetie. Breathe with me. Breathe’’, you coax her, helping her through the breathing exercises that you taught her. In and out. In and out. Slow and steady. Soon enough the magic around you starts to disappear and you can’t help but smile upon noticing.
’’That’s it, Helena. You’re doing so good, just keep breathing’’.
The storm has calmed down once more. There’s not even a wisp of magic left and everything has fallen oddly silent. You can’t decide whether that’s a good or bad thing but you don’t care much either. All you care about right now is the love of your life that is right there in front of you, still so shaky and afraid. You smile widely but gently as she finally opens those sapphire pools for eyes once more.
’’(Y-Y/n)... W-What happened...? I-I’m so sor-’’, she nearly works herself up in to another frenzy but you stop her as you move your hands, running one through her hair, caressing her scalp, while the other picks up her trembling hand and brings it to your lips for a small kiss.
’’You don’t have to speak. I know. You are forgiven and everyone is alright. I’m alright’’, you tell her softly.
’’B-But... But I-I hurt you-... How can you-’’.
’’Helena’’, you interrupt again, your voice gentle yet firm:’’Everything is alright. It’s not as bad as it looks and it was an accident. I don’t believe even for a second that you’d hurt me on purpose, not even if you lose control of your powers. This is not your fault and I know this can happen to even the best of the best. Now we move forward and learn from this experience. I promise I'll be right there by your side on every step of the way, even after everything that we still have yet to face’’. You take her face between your hands, staring straight to the depths of her bewildered teary eyes.
’’I love you, Helena Klein, with all of my heart and it takes more than a runaway spell to scare me away’’.
Helena can’t believe her eyes or ears. She hurt you and possibly many others so why aren’t you running away in fear knowing what she’s capable of? Once again she became the monster she’s always been so afraid of turning to and yet here you are, showering her with all of your love, your gaze never wavering nor looking away from hers. Suddenly her vision blurs as her brows knit together. She bites her lower lip in a desperate attempt to stop her tears but she can’t. You’ve already found your way to her heart and she can’t do anything about it.
You gasp in sudden surprise as she suddenly takes you in her arms, hugging you tightly yet carefully. She’s still too afraid of hurting you. You turn a little misty eyed yourself as her sobs echo next to your ear, accompanied by quiet and whispery ’I’m sorry’ over and over again, as if even a thousand times isn’t enough. In return you whisper sweet nothings to her ear, trying to reassure her.
There you sit with her for a good while longer but neither of you minds it. She’s worthy of every second, minute and hour that may pass before she’s ready to face the world again and you will stay true to your promise. You will be there as long as she needs you, never leaving her side if you can help it. You two will be okay, you know you will. This may have been quite a fall but the two of you will climb back and show the world what your love is made of. Together.
