O'ahu Adventures
A hui hou!
Unbelievable weekend spent in Hawai'i with two of my best friends, rather short but oh so SWEET. Arrived Friday morning only to be greeted at the Honolulu International Airport by Aaron & Bre's two smiling faces, hugs and kisses all around. Like the good friends that they are, they drove me straight to Bogart's Cafe on Montsarrat Drive at the base of Diamond Head so I could gorge myself in my long lost love, aka a massive acai bowl. Finally, after filling up on berries, fruit, and granola we drove around good ol' Diamond Head to my place to throw on bikinis, grab my board and head to Waikiki to lounge around and soak in the sea.
The turquoise saltwater and white sands of Waikiki instantly turns any day from good to great...this is heaven. Later in the day after getting our bronze on we drove out to Makapuu on the East side of the island to chase the sunset. Running up the trail all the way to the top is the most breathtaking view and the best spot to see whales in the winter. Across the pond we could see the island of Molokai and to North the cliffs of west Oahu, more breathtaking than ever. The salty warm air....sunset in the distance, this is perfection.
We popped champagne and a few Longboard lagers to bask in the moment, we stayed up at Makapuu's summit until the stars were out, it wasn't so bad climbing down because the moon lit the way. Lots of food, booze, and other shenanigans that evening followed...but not too crazy BECAUSE...the next morning I woke up at 6:30 to beat the rush out to surf Bowl's on the South side. The waves were a solid 3-4 ft. with an occasional 5 but perfect for me. Once I paddled out there I realized how much better the gnarly Oregon coast had made me!!! Oregon's water is pretty powerful, riptides, murky, cold and shark infested. O'ahu's warm, turquoise, consistent waves soothe the soul 100%. Hands down the best surf morning I've ever had at Bowls. When I came in I was definitely smiling ear to ear, it was obvious that when I was walking across the street back to my dwelling an old Hawaiian man said "Perfection out there right?" I couldn't express how much fun I'd had. He continued to tell me that the South side has been firing and ridiculously consistent and that we were lucky to live here. :( I was sad to say that I'd moved off island just a few months ago...missing HI everyday.
Anywho, post surfing was followed with some Kona coffee and the best scones in the entire world from Diamond Head Market on Montsarrat. Bre, Aaron and I continued over to Kailua/Lanikai beach to kayak 4 hours out to Mokes. Yes, my arms were dead for days after this fun filled day. Next morning we hiked out to Rock Bridge and sat watching the waves crash and the sun come up, talking about how much we love life...
