His stubbornness makes things harder than they need to be sometimes, and I know we have many challenges ahead. But I am also constantly reminded, just today actually, that time is not guaranteed. This first day was harder for me than the first day of preschool, the first day of kindergarten. This one feels different than any other. The hybrid schedule. The masks. The confusion. But not just any of that crap. This is the first time I haven’t driven her to school on the first day. She’s not my little girl anymore. She’s always been by my side, and I’m so grateful for the time I’ve had with her. So many things have been changing, between us, around us. Some changes occur very slowly, some overnight. I always knew I wouldn’t be able to let go easily, and it’s only going to get harder from here. But I also can’t wait to see what’s coming.
