Delicious options for my summer print shopping
I've been avoiding extending the summer prints wardrobe on account of both the rainy weather and a decision to go for a winter sun break this year, instead. With sales flying up everywhere and shopping for summer in mind, I'm divided between my shopping short list of summer prints and colour palettes.
Ted Baker's Colour by Number Collection
I've fallen hard for Ted again, after a brief separation. I'm really enjoying the simple prints and colour palettes forming this collection. There's colour blocking, adding to the overall mood of simplification. The colours chosen, especially on the spotted print are using a nice pastel/navy contrast that I've been channeling myself recently into some of my designs so I'm naturally resonating with this at the moment.
Their fish print is probably the thing that really made my heart stop. It's very versatile, in fact. Here, it is used across this shift dress, and the scale is subtle enough for you to not immediately detect the subject of the print.
Then, we see the fish print used with more contrast on some beautiful block sandals.
This is something I always like - when a print can evolve up or down in mood and liveliness, in order to be more commercially useful for the seller, but equally more aesthetically useful in a wardrobe.
The latest collection influenced by Hampton Court Palace is hot on the botanicals vibe but I particularly like the unexpected touches, such as the floral-lined trench coat and 'Capability' print used across their complementing sandals. The Great Vine lace design is discreet at first glance but completely swoon-able upon closer inspection. It's all very lovely, for a more traditional floral and lace combination than the vibrant Ted collection. While, I'm rather incentivised by the collection being on sale as I write, I'm still leaning towards the Ted.
The rest of the Romantic Look
There's so many choices for the romantic floral print look, from botanical to more loose watercolour prints. While I was making a Pinterest board of my favourite prints, I noticed that there's a range of colour, ranging across the obviously romantic nudes and blush shades. I personally prefer the pieces with a pop of bright colour and I find that these feel very firmly rooted in summer wardrobes. On a practical level, at this point in the summer, opting for the more neutral shades will make for a smoother autumn transition into light cardigans and loose knit sweaters. Autumn is my favourite season for weather, travel and prints, so I like to think ahead wherever I can.
