Dream Save in Tanzania

In Mwanza EI is supporting and supervising 16 groups with Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). However, they face challenges related to manual record keeping, limited digital skills and difficult in making calculation at the end of each VSLA circle.

EI Mwanza adopted and promotes the usage of a digital app called Dream Save to help VSLAs to manage their activities more efficiently and transparently. Out of 16 groups, 9 have been trained in five villages (Katunguru, Luchelele, Nyamatongo, Shilabela and Nyamililo). Staff are now using the app, which replaces paper records, allowing members to digitally record savings, loans, and repayments. Dream Save automatically calculates balances, generates reports, tracks member performance, and secures group data, as well as allowing members to monitor their financial progress while promoting accountability.

"Sometimes I struggled to balance the records at the end of each cycle, and members questioned the accuracy of our reports. When we started using Dream Save, everything changed as it automatically calculated savings, tracked loans, and stored the data securely. During meetings, members could see their contributions and loan balances instantly on their cell phones through messages sent after updating the data - it doesn’t matter if its smartphone or not. It increases trust, transparency, and excitement to our group. It simplifies work, saves valuable time and gave me confidence. Nowadays our group is more organized and motivated to save toward our shared goals." Group secretary from Kilimo na Maendeleo (Agriculture and Development), Luchelele.

Sertão Verde Project in Brazil – A Model of Sustainable Community Agriculture

Based in Ninheira, Brazil, the Sertão Verde Project is run in partnership with Emmanuel International in Brazil and the UK, Montes Claros Presbyterian Church, and Sementes do Vale. The project expanded significantly in 2025 and uses a community vegetable garden as a training centre for women from rural communities selected through social assessment.

Participants complete six months of training in vegetable cultivation, soil management, and sustainable farming practices. Each woman then establishes a home garden using kits provided by the project, including netting, a water tank, watering can, and seeds, alongside ongoing technical support.

Following the initial training, families continue to receive guidance and take part in discussion groups for a further 18 months. The gardens help reduce food insecurity, improve household income, and strengthen community relationships.

Sertão Verde is designed to be cyclical and replicable, promoting social, environmental, and spiritual transformation through evangelism and discipleship, and is becoming a recognised model of sustainable community development.

One beneficiary, Auraci, shared: “Thanks to this initiative, my garden has expanded greatly. Now I can provide for my household, share with those in need, and even sell part of my produce. It is a joy to see this network growing as the members of this project help each other.”

Update on Haiti EI has been partnering with the Evangelical Baptiste Bethesda Church (OEBB) in Haiti since the early ‘80s. The current situation in Haiti, however, is layered and complex. The challenges are of a scale never experienced before, a downward spiral after the assassination of the president, with financial restraints, high inflation, political unrest, etc. Yet, in the EI mission, we have seen God’s hand: we have not experienced kidnapping or the level of instability/insecurity in the rest of the country. The church offers hope in God, that God will provide when things get desperate. Some of the churches are still able to meet at times when it is safe. We were able to share some joy in weddings, in the success of national exams as all students who sat passed, and more. "Andrice’s mother died of breast cancer, and soon after his father abandoned the family. With no home, no support, and no sense of stability, Andrice was left to fend for himself. He joined the boys’ home in Jacmel, where abandoned children could find refuge, structure, and love. In the face of relentless hardship, Andrice found solace in faith. Within the OEBB church, he discovered a community and a passion for music. By God’s grace, Andrice also excelled in school. In a country where education is often an unattainable dream, he fought against the odds. He is a fourth-year medical student, proving that even in the darkest of times, light can still shine through." “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. In February 1981, 45 years ago, Emmanuel International began its first project in Brazil. It was in Passabém, a small town in the countryside. A team of young Brazilians and foreigners lived for four years in tents and worked with needy families in rural areas, helping with health and income-generating projects and sharing God's love with adults and children. This is the account of Jurema, who lived this rich experience.

Girls Hygiene Ministry in Uganda In Northern Uganda, Emmanuel International is working with schools and parents to help keep girls in school. Absenteeism due to the inability to manage menstruation is a significant factor that leads to girls not continuing on to secondary school. The Girls’ Hygiene Ministry addresses this and other issues surrounding girls’ education. We teach girls and their mothers how to make sanitary pads from local materials, we advocate for sanitary pads to be part of the school uniform, and we devote ourselves to teaching a comprehensive six-lesson curriculum at each school, which includes teaching about puberty, self-worth, and the love of God. "Before the Pads Project, I used to miss school whenever I had my period. I didn’t know how to manage it well, and I often felt shy and left behind in my studies. Through the project, I attended six special lessons. These lessons changed my life. I also learned how to make reusable sanitary pads, something I am very proud of! At school, my performance improved because I no longer miss classes. At home, my parents are now more supportive of my education. Every Thursday, mothers from local churches visit us to teach, pray, and encourage us to stay in school. Their love and support make a big difference in our lives." Safe Houses in South Africa African Hope Trust of Cape Town, an Emmanuel International partner in South Africa, is a ministry that builds homes for abused, abandoned and orphaned children. These homes are built in informal settlements where child abandonment, abuse and neglect is rife. The goal of the ministry is to raise children in a Godly and nurturing environment by foster parents from their own communities where the house parents raise them as their own. The model works by a house mother from the same culture committing herself to raise the children (legally as a foster parent) and help them to overcome the trauma of their past and prepare them spiritually and mentally for a bright future. Each home is purpose built to accommodate 6 children each. This size allows for a genuine sense of ‘family’ for the children who are referred to African Hope Trust, and it is manageable for the house mother to spend quality time with the children rather than simply just ‘feeding and sheltering’ them. Our desire is to operate as homes and not like institutions which is why we opted for smaller family units. This year has had many challenges but also many blessings. We’ve had 8 new children come to the houses as a place of safety where they received Godly love, discipleship, school books, school uniforms and a sense of protection and family for these children. 3 children have moved to start lives as adults or have be reunited with family that has been found. Our very first child, Simphewe, was reunited with his Grandmother whom he hadn’t met before. It was a special reunion and even though Simphewe was sad to leave his ‘family’ he is loving his new start with his grandmother. Please pray for the Safe Homes as we are renegotiating the terms of our registration with the Department of Social Development. Pray for wisdom for the social workers involved, and that God would be glorified in our ministry.
