Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued “competing” charities, because (paraphrasing) their “message or branding was infringing.”
You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.
Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

This Country Is Already Carbon Neutral and Now Plans to Go 100% Organic and Zero-Waste
Bhutan has been hailed as one of the greenest countries on Earth. Currently, the country’s carbon emissions rate is a negligible 0.8 metric tons per capita, according to the World Bank. Not only is Bhutan carbon neutral, it’s also a carbon sink—making it one of the few countries in the world to have negative carbon emissions.
“According to recent figures, the country emits around 1.5 million tonnes of carbon annually, while its forests absorb over 6 million tonnes,” says Proudly Carbon Neutral. Despite this, it still wants to go even further to zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, while also going 100 percent organic by 2020 and zero-waste by 2030.
In 2011, the government launched the National Organic Program in order to help the country meet its goal of 100 percent organic by 2020. Reuters reports on the success of the program so far:
By teaching farmers good organic farming practices and how to earn more money by growing organic produce, and by providing financial support, Bhutan hopes to reduce waste, decrease the country’s dependence on imported food, and ensure it remains climate-neutral, producing no more climate-changing emissions each year than its forests absorb.
Already praised by environmentalists for its low carbon emissions and heavy use of hydropower, Bhutan hopes to become even greener by showing that environmentally friendly farming can also make money.
The government is offering free training programs in organic farming to turn Bhutan’s subsistence farmers barely eking out a living into successful entrepreneurs. The switch to organic is also helping this Himalayan mountain kingdom achieve its zero waste goal, as well.
“Now, from leaves to cow dung to chicken poop, everything is used,” a new organic farmer told Reuters. “I have no trash, only compost.”
Hurdles remain, however. The country is still highly dependent on imported food. “According to a 2014 study on food security by the Royal Bhutan College of Thimphu, less than four percent of Bhutan’s total land is under food cultivation, which is why almost 50 percent of the country’s rice is imported from India and Thailand,” says Reuters. One farmer complains that the government needs to help widen the market for organic produce. Many people still opt for imported foods over local ones because they are cheaper.
Still, Bhutan is light years ahead of most countries. The country has an entire section of its constitution devoted to the environment that opens with:
Every Bhutanese is a trustee of the Kingdom’s natural resources and environment for the benefit of the present and future generations and it is the fundamental duty of every citizen to contribute to the protection of the natural environment, conservation of the rich biodiversity of Bhutan and prevention of all forms of ecological degradation including noise, visual and physical pollution through the adoption and support of environment friendly practices and policies.
Bhutan is currently 72 percent forested and the constitution requires that no less than 60 percent of the country remains forested. The Buddhist nation also refuses to judge its success on Gross Domestic Product, instead using an index that measures Gross National Happiness.
Though Bhutan is not powered by 100 percent renewable energy, it aims to be in the near future. It has an abundant supply of hydroelectricity—so much that it exports 75 percent of its power to India. Its current renewable energy share is 60 percent. And a partnership announced last year with Nissan could help ensure that the country doesn’t increase its fossil fuel use or its carbon emissions. Nissan partnered with the Bhutanese government to provide hundreds of electric cars to the country—with the promise of thousands soon after. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay wants to eventually convert all of Bhutan’s vehicles to electric power.
But more than a year after the launch, only about 50 electric Nissan vehicles were on the roads, though at least 22 more had been ordered as of June. That’s about a tenth of a percent of the total cars on the road in Bhutan. CEO of Thunder Motors (the local partner of Nissan) told Reuters purchases of electric vehicles are underwhelming because of a lack of government support for “developing more charging infrastructure and land for building charging stations.”

Surviving Halloween with Psychosis
- The picture test: If you can’t tell if something is a hallucination or not, take a photo! If it shows up in the picture then you have a keepsake of that crazy creepy Halloween decoration. If not it’s a hallucination (or a vampire. No, i’m kidding it’s a hallucination.)
- Is some kid in mask causing paranoia? Ask them where they got their costume. Did they make it? How did they get the idea? Focusing on the person inside of the costume will help you remember that it’s just a person!
- Avoid haunted houses, haunted hayrides, ect. Actors will not stop scaring unless it’s an emergency, and I’ve yet to find a place that teaches actors how to deal with anything other than physical injuries. (I once met a haunted house actor who said causing a panic attack meant he was “doing his job right.”)
- There’s no shame in asking friends and relatives to avoid sending jump scare videos or anything else that could cause paranoia.
- Here are some tips on how to tell if a video is a screamer.

If something is making you upset, make it silly. dance with the shadows, sing to the creepies, I bet if make a fish face at the scary face it’ll be a little less scary. I know this is harder than it sounds, but I’ve gotten better at it over the time, and find it helps!

While there are still plenty of people fortunate enough to live somewhere that is not (yet) directly threatened by the extreme energy frenzy, no one is exempt from the real-world impacts of increasingly extreme weather, or from the simmering psychological stress of knowing that we may very well grow old - and our young children may well grow up - in a climate significantly more treacherous than the one we currently enjoy. Like an oil spill that spreads from open water into wetlands, beaches, riverbeds, and down to the ocean floor, its toxins reverberating through the lifecycles of countless species, the sacrifice zones created by our collective fossil fuel dependence are creeping and spreading like giant shadows over the earth. After two centuries of pretending that we could quarantine the collateral damage of this filthy habit, fobbing the risks off on others, the game is up, and we are all in the sacrifice zone now.

I left home at age 10 in 1961. I hustled on 42nd Street. The early 60s was not a good time for drag queens, effeminate boys or boys that wore makeup like we did. Back then we were beat up by the police, by everybody. I didn’t really come out as a drag queen until the late 60s. When drag queens were arrested, what degradation there was. I remember the first time I got arrested, I wasn’t even in full drag. I was walking down the street and the cops just snatched me. We always felt that the police were the real enemy. We expected nothing better than to be treated like we were animals-and we were. We were stuck in a bullpen like a bunch of freaks. We were disrespected. A lot of us were beaten up and raped. When I ended up going to jail, to do 90 days, they tried to rape me. I very nicely bit the shit out of a man. I’ve been through it all. In 1969, the night of the Stonewall riot, was a very hot, muggy night. We were in the Stonewall [bar] and the lights came on. We all stopped dancing. The police came in. They had gotten their payoff earlier in the week. But Inspector Pine came in-him and his morals squad-to spend more of the government’s money. We were led out of the bar and they cattled us all up against the police vans. The cops pushed us up against the grates and the fences. People started throwing pennies, nickels, and quarters at the cops. And then the bottles started. And then we finally had the morals squad barricaded in the Stonewall building, because they were actually afraid of us at that time. They didn’t know we were going to react that way. We were not taking any more of this shit. We had done so much for other movements. It was time. It was street gay people from the Village out front-homeless people who lived in the park in Sheridan Square outside the bar-and then drag queens behind them and everybody behind us. The Stonewall Inn telephone lines were cut and they were left in the dark. One Village Voice reporter was in the bar at that time. And according to the archives of the Village Voice, he was handed a gun from Inspector Pine and told, “We got to fight our way out of there.” This was after one Molotov cocktail was thrown and we were ramming the door of the Stonewall bar with an uprooted parking meter. So they were ready to come out shooting that night. Finally the Tactical Police Force showed up after 45 minutes. A lot of people forget that for 45 minutes we had them trapped in there. All of us were working for so many movements at that time. Everyone was involved with the women’s movement, the peace movement, the civil-rights movement. We were all radicals. I believe that’s what brought it around. You get tired of being just pushed around. STAR came about after a sit-in at Wein stein Hall at New York University in 1970. Later we had a chapter in New York, one in Chicago, one in California and England. STAR was for the street gay people, the street homeless people and anybody that needed help at that time. Marsha and I had always sneaked people into our hotel rooms. Marsha and I decided to get a building. We were trying to get away from the Mafia’s control at the bars. We got a building at 213 East 2nd Street. Marsha and I just decided it was time to help each other and help our other kids. We fed people and clothed people. We kept the building going. We went out and hustled the streets. We paid the rent. We didn’t want the kids out in the streets hustling. They would go out and rip off food. There was always food in the house and everyone had fun. It lasted for two or three years. We would sit there and ask, “Why do we suffer?” As we got more involved into the movements, we said, “Why do we always got to take the brunt of this shit?” Later on, when the Young Lords [revolutionary Puerto Rican youth group] came about in New York City, I was already in GLF [Gay Liberation Front]. There was a mass demonstration that started in East Harlem in the fall of 1970. The protest was against police repression and we decided to join the demonstration with our STAR banner. That was one of first times the STAR banner was shown in public, where STAR was present as a group. I ended up meeting some of the Young Lords that day. I became one of them. Any time they needed any help, I was always there for the Young Lords. It was just the respect they gave us as human beings. They gave us a lot of respect. It was a fabulous feeling for me to be myself-being part of the Young Lords as a drag queen-and my organization [STAR] being part of the Young Lords. I met [Black Panther Party leader] Huey Newton at the Peoples’ Revolutionary Convention in Philadelphia in 1971. Huey decided we were part of the revolution-that we were revolutionary people. I was a radical, a revolutionist. I am still a revolutionist. I was proud to make the road and help change laws and what-not. I was very proud of doing that and proud of what I’m still doing, no matter what it takes. Today, we have to fight back against the government. We have to fight them back. They’re cutting back Medicaid, cutting back on medicine for people with AIDS. They want to take away from women on welfare and put them into that little work program. They’re going to cut SSI. Now they’re taking away food stamps. These people who want the cuts-these people are making millions and millions and millions of dollars as CEOs. Why is the government going to take it away from us? What they’re doing is cutting us back. Why can’t we have a break? I’m glad I was in the Stonewall riot. I remember when someone threw a Molotov cocktail, I thought: “My god, the revolution is here. The revolution is finally here!” I always believed that we would have a fight back. I just knew that we would fight back. I just didn’t know it would be that night. I am proud of myself as being there that night. If I had lost that moment, I would have been kind of hurt because that’s when I saw the world change for me and my people. Of course, we still got a long way ahead of us.

Orcas in the wild average a lifespan of 60 to 70 years. They can and have been recorded living to 100. All captive orcas have died under the age of 32. The average death is below the age of 10. (often below even 3) As of December 2013 159 orcas have died in captivity since orcas started being captured in th 1960s. The oldest of which was 32, her name was Nootka 5. (note that these do not include stillborn calves, misscarriages, or other unsuccessful pregnancies. Which are rampant, and many of the listed Orcas died due to pregnancy complications.) 13 of these deaths are Seaworld Japan. 16 are Seaworld of California. 12 are Seaworld of Florida. 10 are Seaworld of Texas. That means of the 159 Orca deaths in marine parks worldwide, a total 51 are in Seaworld parks. Not including Seaworld affiliate parks, or parks where Seaworld sent calves/adults. There are currently 53 living captive Orcas, 19 of them wild captured, 34 captive born. The majority of them being owned by the Seaworld parks, with 55% being in the U.S. ( 2 in Seaworld Japan, 10 at Seaworld California, 7 at Seaworld Florida, 6 at Seaworld Texas.) I won’t go into the deplorable living conditions, but if you want hard statistics without opinion, here you go. Of the 212 killer whales in captivity since the 1960s, 159 are dead. All of them below the age of 32, all due to illness, injury, or complications. The majority of which at Seaworld parks. This does not include other marine mammal species, such as dolphins, other whales, etc. If handed any other animal with this statistic would you continue fighting for the practice for the sake of public entertainment? Iran is in a constant tug of war between Western and Central Asia.
So, to summarize:
Bangladesh =/= India =/= Pakistan
Bangladesh/Pakistan =/= India
India =/= South Asia
China =/= Southeast Asia
North Korea =/= North Asia
Indian subcontinent =/= South Asia
South Asia =/= Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia =/= East Asia
Western Asia =/= Middle East
It’s actually pretty offensive when you dump half these countries into East Asia or just plain India, so please, think before you address the cultures and the countries. Is the culture Indian, or is it South Asian? Is the style Chinese, or is it East Asian?
It takes like two minutes to look these up. It’s not that hard.
(Except Western Asia. That’s a tricky definition because it includes most of the South Caucasus, which very few people take into account when considering Asia, and some of the countries there are difficult to place geographically. Most, but not all, of Western Asia falls into the definition of the Middle East, but the Middle East is not only comprised of Western Asian countries.)

Marissa Johnson & Mara Willaford overtook the stage and mic at Bernie Sanders’ rally. Marissa explains why + White “progressives.”
Elon James: “People are flipping out. ‘See! She’s trying to destroy Sanders.’ So I would like to give you the opportunity to address some of the things people are throwing out, yelling, and saying everywhere about what’s happened. So, first question: ‘Why are you targeting Sanders?’”
Marissa: “Here’s the thing. I saw the video that happened at Netroots just like everybody else. In that video, Patrice says very specifically to [Martin] O’Malley: ‘You and every other democratic presidential candidate should expect to be confronted or interrupted until you put forth solid proposals, no matter where you go in this country.’ So I heard that and when the news dropped that Sanders was going to be coming to Seattle, there wasn’t even a conversation that needed to be had. It was ‘that’s the status quo for presidential candidate.’ He hadn’t at that point put out a criminal justice reform plan, like O’Malley had. So, it was very clear.
Going after Sanders is super important because Sanders is supposed as far left and progressive as we can possibly get, right? In Seattle political context, I know that really well. We have hoards and hoards of white liberals and white progressives, and yet we still have all the same racial problems. For us locally, in our context, confronting Sanders was the equivalence of confronting the large white liberal democrat leftist that we have here in Seattle, who not only have not supported BLM (Black Lives Matter movement) in measurable ways, but is often very harmful and upholding white supremacist society that we live in. That’s why we felt the need to address him and his supporters.”
Elon James: “The idea that you’ve just laid out is specifically that democratic candidates will be challenged on this until they have a clear cut response. So what do you say to the people that say, ‘So why aren’t picketing Hillary?’”
Marissa: “Hillary has better secret service than Obama. [everyone laughs]. It’s really the stupidest thing that people can say. It’s that accessibility.“
