I’ve recently started this, I don’t understand it but I kinda get it. Sometimes it gets kinda cringe-worthy or has those “Why am I watching this again?” moments, but it’s interesting and somewhat adorable that you forgive it and find yourself watching another 10 episodes.

Rewatching Good Morning Call ep 1/17
Movie : Senpai to Kanojo
Genre: Romance, High School
Rating: 2/10
What I Thought:
The movie is about a sophomore(American terms), or a first year in high school, that looks for a club with her friend. When asked what she’s interested in, Rika replies with “Love! I want a sweet love!” (NOTE: This immediately gave me a red flag about her) They end up joining a club that doesn’t have specific activities because Rika falls for the president of the club, Minohara, right off the bat and her friend Yuko is interested in the school work of the seniors to study off of. Over time, Rika finds herself falling more and more for the president, but it wouldn’t be good if they together too easily. Nope, there has to be another girl for the guy to like, Aoi-senpai.
I feel like this movie had a lot of potential, because Minohara and his actor were such ikemen and they stopped my heart a few times with their lines and actions. His teasing, gentleness, and tolerance seriously impressed me.
It’s just I had so many problems with the main girl. I’m sure she’s a talented actress and I have no issues with her whatsoever, but I absolutely hated the character she played. When Minohara says he’s not interested in a relationship, she freaks out in such a weird and embarrassing way. Despite him being nice to her, I was just thinking “Please stop, if that’s me, I’d so so uncomfortable.” Next, during the boat trip, Rika just goes over and lies next to Minohara when she sees that he’s asleep. Even if she likes him, she should have some more self-control for those situations. She knows he likes someone and he obviously doesn’t have any interest in her besides as a younger club member, so it’s weird to try to cuddle up next to the guy in public like that. The thing that just got rid of all my tolerance for her though was when she slapped Aoi. Aoi did nothing wrong in my view, what she said about Minohara is the one who chooses if he wants to continue liking Aoi is right. Yet out of anger, Rika slaps her, such an immature response. I can definitely see why Minohara likes Aoi.
Besides my dislike toward the main character, the ending wasn’t that special to me either. I feel like it would’ve been better if it ended right after Minohara kisses Rika. They have a falling out and when he tries to find her after graduation. Their interactions as a couple were cute, but he went out with her knowing full well that he likes Aoi still and didn’t have any actual feelings for Rika. And when he finally realizes his ‘feelings’ for Rika, it seemed like he’s only settling for her because she was so devoted to him and he finally accepted that he can’t be with Aoi. I might change my mind about the ending if they gave better reasons to him liking Rika and trying to get her back.
Final Judgment and Recommendation:
Movie had a lot of potential and nice moments, but they just went downhill for me. For girls who want those “kyun” moments, I suggest watching and stopping after they kiss. You can watch to the end too, but it seems like the moments end after the kiss. This movie isn’t really a must-see. There are a lot of dramas much better than this that are worth the 103 minutes.
Drama: Good Morning Call
Episodes : 17
Genres : Romance, Comedy
Rating: 7/10
What I Thought:
This drama has a lot to similarity to Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo, Playful Kiss, etc. as you may have heard, and it’s true. The drama is about a boy and a girl that live together but must hide it from their school and anyone who would probably cause trouble for them about it. The girl is somewhat average and the guy is the most popular boy in school and they fall in love after living together. That’s the basic story.
Obviously there are differences, otherwise there’d be no point in watching this drama. The boy, Uehara, and the girl, Yoshikawa, are the only ones who live in the apartment together, so it’s just them. A difference that I really appreciate is that Yoshikawa has some common sense, so I found it much more bearable than Itazura na Kiss. It also has a realistic element because Yoshikawa doesn’t start out liking Uehara, but hates him because he’s so mean to the girls who confess to him. Because of this, the drama is able to make Yoshikawa a more likable girl since she doesn’t just like a guy due to his looks and shows us why she likes him. She also doesn’t jump to conclusions for every situation that comes up. Now for Uehara, I like how he’s super smart and despite being a cool character, he has his childish and air headed moments, giving him more appeal.
Another thing that I find fresh about this drama is that the girl that the main guy likes at first doesn’t ever try to break up the two nor does the main guy follow her with every chance he gets. Uehara’s first love,Yuri, is incredibly adorable to me and I found her quite entertaining until she constantly shows up at their door every time she has a problem with her husband. I absolutely hate when characters jump the gun about every little thing and cause so much trouble or unnecessary arguments. She does redeem herself though over time and it really helps that she’s trying to help Uehara and Yoshikawa get together instead of using Uehara to get over her issues.
Following the drama, you find yourself squealing at all the cute moments between Yoshikawa and Uehara, such as every time he attempts to rescue her. The way he teases her, such as when he first sees her in her ramen uniform, is definitely a cute characteristic for their relationship. Their special connection with Milk Pudding is simple, but its simplicity makes it so sweet. However, this is also one of the dramas where the second-lead syndrome is too strong. Yes, Uehara has his wonderful ikemen moments, but at the same time the character(NOT the actor) is constantly outshined by Daichi and Issei. Uehara is the tsundere type, but honestly after actually getting with Yoshikawa, he just becomes a jerk to her. Who the hell walks away when another guy is carrying their injured girlfriend? At least take your girlfriend off the guy’s hands. Not to mention Uehara should work on communicating problems with his girlfriend. And while this is going on, the other love interests are getting so much appeal.
First, you have Daichi, Yoshikawa’s childhood friend who’s been in love with her for 8 years. He’s the sweetheart/prince type. The guy is constantly there for Yoshikawa and helps her with whatever and whenever she asks. For Christmas, he tries to spend it with her alone, but when she falls sick, he rushes over and takes care of her. Then, when he realizes that the person she actually wants to be with is Uehara, he puts her to sleep and runs through the cold to Uehara, buys them the cake that Yoshikawa really wanted, and tells Uehara to go to her, all to give her a happy Christmas while sacrificing his own. His actions for the Valentine’s Day episode is one where most girls can’t help but fall for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if some guys fall for him too. Another appeal he had was how he tried to make her see him as a man, all those teasing of “Wanna ride on my bike? Just kidding!” could seriously give viewers heart attacks because of how ikemen he seemed. Finally his two confessions to Yoshikawa can leave you dead, they were so heartfelt, I screamed at her to go to him. (BONUS: His reaction to Yoshikawa and Uehara living together is priceless)
The third love actual interest is Issei, the ramen boy! From the very first time they meet, you already have a feeling this sadistic boy will like Yoshikawa at some point. He constantly teases her in a sweet way but still isn’t a tsundere, maybe a soft S though. “I like girls who are a little chubby and like to eat.” How do you not like him after hearing that? Sure he made a mistake by ‘lying’ to Yoshikawa for episode 17, but it seemed more like a mistake since his answer was one I’d think if I didn’t know the full situation either. He’s not close enough to Yoshikawa where she’d call him for help when things happen, but their interactions are always playful. His confession to Yoshikawa and how he helps her on the mountains when their flashlights die are seriously hard to not fan girl over.
Final Judgement and Recommendation:
The drama is really good and makes you want to know what happens next all the time, but the second-lead syndrome killed the main couple for me. If you liked Itazura na Kiss, I think you’d like this drama also. If you didn’t like it because of Kotoko, then I think you’ll be a lot more satisfied with this drama. People who want a sweet high school love story with lots of “kyun” moments, this is definitely the one. I don’t think this is on many sites, but I know for sure it’s on Netflix and KissAsian if you want to watch it.

Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto [2016.07] └ “It’s your reward” ♥
Drama: Shinigami-kun / Angel of Death
Rating: 10/10
Episodes: 9
Genre: Comedy, drama
What I Disliked:
To be honest there was that slight doubt when starting the drama, but there’s really nothing that I disliked about this drama. Although from how the drama went, I think it would’ve been better if the drama ended on the opposite note, but most people would probably be more satisfied with the ending they had.
What I Liked:
“Everything’s all fun and games until someone dies.” “Don’t get too attached to fictional characters, they might die.” These two quotes have never been so true to me until this drama. The first quote is quite literal for this drama. With Ohno Satoshi as the main shinigami, it’s only expected that there are cute comedic scenes. “Congratulations! You’ve been assigned to die!” He says this with such innocence and happiness that it’s somewhat funny. He then also helps his Assigned-to-Die victims to live their final days to the fullest. So you find yourself laughing all episode until the very end, the moment of death, where you may cry your eyes out.
For the next quote, it’s almost impossible for me to not become attached the the characters. For some characters, you find yourself hating them right off the bat and thinking “Oh good, I won’t cry this episode.” However before you know it, you’ll find yourself sympathizing with the characters and losing your soul along with them once they die. I hate it more when there’s a child involved because you know that episode’s going to be a heart jerker and the water works will flood the room.
Another thing I liked about this drama is that there is some character development despite there lacking an actual story line since the Death Monitor Officer begins to see a new side of things. Not to mention when I was complaining about why Shinigami is getting way too lucky against Akuma, the drama gets interesting by giving him a failure.
Moving onto the cast and their characters, you have Ohno Satoshi as Shinigami, Kiritani Mirei as the sadistic Death Monitor Manager, Suda Masaki as the handsome Akuma, and Matsushige Yutaka as the perverted boss. Quite a mix, but their interactions with each other are quite entertaining and adorable. For some reason I ended up shipping the manager with Akuma a bit.
Recommendation:
For those who want an inspirational drama or something that mixes comedy with a roller coaster of emotions, this is probably good for your list. Those who prefer more realistic emotional dramas would probably be annoyed with this though since there are so many mistakes in the reality of it (not including the shinigami’s existence).
