"Yeah, you know me, just the regular old sentimental guy who cries when the dogs die in movies."
Okay enough weakness for one day you dumb person you.
Aria wanted to kiss his stupid face to make his defeated expression vanish. She wanted to kiss him because goddamn kissing is fun. She wanted to kiss him so badly but she was too short to do it easily so she let it go.
Stop having feelings.
"So. What’s say you get some clothes on, and I use stolen money to buy coffee."
"I like the sound of one of those things. I don’t know how much you have on you, but I’d rather wash my clothes than get a cup of coffee. Do you think we could do that?"
"Completely understand. I’ll go get the clothes clean and you… wait here."
"Thanks." Good to know he'd still be using towels for cover for a little while yet.

Jeremy looked down at the ground, and decided to throw caution to the wind. “We could m-make it. Th-the two of us.”
"What?" Aria felt her heart skip a beat, which was ridiculous. This was ridiculous. He couldn’t possibly mean that.
"I… uh, sorry. Sorry. Of course, sorry." He found a reason to be occupied with the counter, suddenly very aware he was practically naked.
"No, what did you mean?"
Ah, now he realizes his lack of clothing.
"S-simply that," he tugged at his hair with one hand held his towel up with the other, "I think we could handle the city together. How fortunate that I came here, of all places."
"I’m not fond of ambiguous statements. What do you mean, lucky?"
"I mean it’s lucky that you happened to be right here and that right here is where I came to be."
"I mean, I suppose. I don’t really believe in luck, but I guess that’s one way to put it."
"I dunno, I’ve always felt like things are meant to happen. Even the bad things. But this, this is a good thing." He flicked his gaze to her face, but it didn’t take long for him to resume looking at the white tiled floor. He brought his cheeks up to form a small smile, as that was the best he could do.
He’s hiding something. What is it. Goddamn why can’t I get this one.
"Okay, obviously there’s something you aren’t telling me."
"No, not really. I just think ours was a, um, serendipitous meeting."
No reason for her to know your tales of woe.
"Oh come on, I’m not stupid. What is it?" She paused. "If it’s part of your tragic backstory, you can tell me. I’m not one to judge."
"I'm here because this is where my dad died. So this is where I wanted to die." Wow good job buddy just begging for attention nice one.

"No, I could never ask that of you. I- I just don’t want to end up on the streets. But right now there’s nowhere else for me to go."
"The streets aren’t so bad."
Now he’s going to know.
Shut it.
"How would you know?" Jeremy asked, getting himself some water.
"Because that’s where I lived in England. That’s where I live now."
Fuck.
"Yeah, okay." He said, then gulped down the cup. Wait. "Wait."
"What? You think I’m lying?"
Jeremy rounded on her and stared at her, dough eyed. “N-no I- I w-woul I mean i-if ah, e-em….”
Aria crossed her arms. “Complete thoughts, please.”
Jeremy took a deep breath, and felt bad that he couldn't look Aria in the eye. "I'm sorry. I j-just... di-didn't know."
"No, I could never ask that of you. I- I just don’t want to end up on the streets. But right now there’s nowhere else for me to go."

"No, I think I’m okay. I- I need to shower."
"Okay," Aria said. "Take your time."
Jeremy let the water roll down his face, and soon they were joined with tears. He didn’t know what to do. There weren’t any more answers.
After thirty minutes had passed, Aria began to worry. She made her way to the bathroom and knocked on the door. “Everything alright in there?”
He knew it had been a while, but he still didn’t want to get out. “You can come in,” he said just loud enough to hear over the pounding of the water.
Aria opened the door and was met by a blast of hot, steamy air. “You sure you’re okay?”
"Yeah, just stressed. Today’s the day to restart, but I don’t know where I should even begin."
"Food is generally a good option."
"Yes, okay. Um, can you hand me a towel?" Jeremy asked, turning the water off.
"Yeah." Aria grabbed one off the rack and slipped it past the plastic shower curtain, letting go when she felt him take it.
Given the amount of time they had spent clinging to each other, Jeremy figured Aria could handle seeing his torso. He towelled off his body in the shower, and wrapped it around his waist as he stepped out.
"Are you sure you’re okay?" Aria asked. "Because your face looks fine, but your eyes… Something’s more wrong than you’ve been saying."
Jeremy looked down, hoping he could avoid this conversation. But when Aria crossed her arms, he knew there was no escape. "I, uh, I don't have anything left. Anything."
He'd spent his last few hundred dollars on this hotel room.
