The Jerni Collection is the largest and most comprehensive collection of magnificent quality European and American toys and trains ever assembled. It is a passionate homage to the Golden Age of toy making, but on a scale that is breathtaking. The more 35,000 objects in The Jerni Collection were assembled piece-by-piece over a 50 year period by a single dedicated collector who is one of the world’s leading authorities on model trains and toys and who placed an emphasis on quality and condition. The pieces date from roughly 1850–1940, and form an encyclopedic collection of toys and trains from every major European and American manufacturer operating during this period including Märklin, Bing, Ernst Plank Carette and Rock & Graner, chronicling the ‘Golden Age’ of European toy manufacturing. It includes hundreds of unique handmade and historically significant European items, including depictions of actual rail stations, bridges and buildings, many of which were destroyed in the First and Second World Wars. The Jerni Collection is the greatest toy and train collection in the world and this is the first time that any portion of it has been shown to the public.
I jumped on the Metro North today at 6:40 am.  Normally I am a little groggy although I am a morning person (yes, I know, eww).  As I jumped on the MTA, I noticed a sign and it was AWESOME.  At 6:40 am on a Grand Central bound train I saw the wondrous graphics for the New York Botanical Garden Train Show. Â
This isn't a show to buy or trade stuff, this is just a show to see probably one of the best garden rail layouts in the world. Â In one of the best settings in the world. Â The show starts on November 17th and runs thru January 13th, 2013. Â I am absolutely going with camera!
On a side note, I stopped by the MTA Museum store in Grand Central (in NYC) and they were setting up the holiday train exhibition!!! Â The guard told me that the full launch is right after Thanksgiving. Â Yes, I know it is a time for train shows, sharpening up layouts and so on. Â But these two items plus the Jerni collection make NYC a must go for train nuts this year!
