My childhood squad.
nellie being reduced to “a friend who samantha helped with school” is outrageously disrespectful to the importance of her entire character
the box for modern 14.5 inch addy has a tobacco field as its backdrop, the tobacco field where this child worked as a slave, despite this being a "modern" interpretation lol. the author of addy's books, connie porter, had this to say about this shitty choice
american girl doll's newest line—ag sisters (not actual sisters, just a group of close friends). these dolls are 80 DOLLARS apiece despite having rooted hair and being entirely plastic. they do come with a few accessories in box, but these accessories are also majority plastic and their pets are tiny plastic figurines that aren't to scale. worst of all, each of the dolls comes with a full face of makeup. we don't have a solid impression of how old these characters are supposed to be, but regardless, ag keeps kowtowing to the adultification of young girls and this is the pinnacle of that trend. these are basically larger, more expensive barbie dolls. a really disappointing line.
one of my favorite things about AGblr is that we're not constantly glorifying spending tons of money. i feel like AG communities on facebook and instagram pressure you to always have everything, every collection, complete and immediately upon its release. it's a lot more relaxed here
been listening to this again as i draw
Advice Needed
My Anna Collector doll is slightly defective and I could return her for a full refund. They just released a non-collector Anna. So its not like I'd never be able to get an Anna again...
But this is my one chance at the collector one...
Kirsten, NO! Not a pet! NOT A PET!!!
Me: I don't get the hate towards the collector dolls!
AG: *Releases a Collector version thats literally a doll they already sell just BejeweledTM*
Me: I think I see it
If Samantha had become the first female president it wouldn't be like this
i almost forget how homophobic the wider range of people who like american girl can be. like the tumblr ag scene is very gay (or, if not lgbt themselves, allies). then i leave the circle and it’s a bunch of conservative moms who are shouting about how disgusting it is that lgbt people are allowed to exist. in conclusion homophobes are banned from all ag media and content forever <3
Agree 100%. AG tumblr is very LGBTQIA+ friendly and I love it.
Conservative white AG moms: I cannot believe they would allow this character in children's media to have gay aunts the lgbt agenda is poisoning the minds of our youth
Us, all gay as hell, with our thrifted off eBay dolls we painted freckles on ourselves or whatever: Julie and Ivy were wed on a Cali beach at sunset. Courtney did Moore than Reagan. Uncle Gard and Cordelia had a lavender marriage. Molly actively identifies as butch by age 20. *cocks gun* Coconut the dog is trans and there is nothing you can do about it
so fucked up like actually i think they should counter sue
while we're on the topic of mia rights remember when mr yep made a point to have her friend be admittedly better at skating than her and it never causes any drama and in bravo mia she was elated at placing in the top three and there's only wishing the best for other girls and no tearing each other down and the protagonist doesn't have to be "the best" at her activity to have a storyline about following her passion they should have sold this doll for twenty years stan the mia st clair line
everyone please appreciate my favorite exchange from the comments of the samantha movie
took my boyfriend into his first american girl doll store and one of the first things i hear him say after picking up a book is “these are late war planes, they hadn’t been invented yet. they’re not even japanese!” i really don’t know how i expected anything else
