Caora Gin

A distilled non-alcoholic Gin made with Organic ingredients.Displayed is three flavours Original,Strawberry & lime and Blueberry.Based on Cort-Ma-Law and the nature that surrounds it.My concept was to create a design that is wrapped around and printed directly onto the glass bottle,have abstract repetitive patterns taken from the environment and making a more modern bottle to capture the attention of the intended audience.

Overall I am quite pleased with results as I feel I have pushed personal boundaries.Having never done a project like this before,I faced quite a few obstacles with the artwork matching one another and being placed on the bottle in the same manner.The artwork and placements are slightly different from one another although I feel with more digital practise this can definitely be improved.I learned alot through this brief and learned how to push through the obstacles in the best way that I could.Creating artwork that was more simplified with different elements and placing them together is something completely new to me which I found quite difficult.I have now gained more confidence in my abilities in using colour and creating something more unique which I can now take into any future projects.

Successfulness

Mark Livings created this successful Non-alcoholic brand in 2017.A delightful and impressive concept .Taking the Australian Lyrebird into the brand .A bird which can mimic almost any sound representing how the brand also mimic’s non-alcoholic spirits.

Aesthetics

The two tone anthropomorphic illustration’s really stand out to me I find them fun and interesting to look at. Each one representing the flavours and different culture’s of the world which ultimately I feel connects us all and that we can all make better lifestyle choice’s by the encouragement of one another.

Process

They have managed to create 13 different popular flavours including Gin’s and Whiskey’s .Having perfected the flavours to mimic alcoholic flavours using all natural ingredients which are ideally designed to be drank with a mixer. They have taken into consideration of the material’s they use where everything is fully recycle being a brand that care’s for the environment.

Audience

Lyre’s is a brand who specifically have an adult audience as the drink’s are made to have the real taste of alcohol. Although it is safe for minor’s to drink, it is clearly discouraged. Created for adults who would like to make mindful lifestyle choice’s when out in social setting’s or even in the comfort of their own home.

The success Lyre’s has had so far has been excellent.I am excited where Lyre’s will go next, what new capturing design’s there will be and tasty flavour’s will be created .A Good All Rounder

Successfulness

This design of a non-alcoholic spirit, designed by PearlFisher is successful as the innovative art stands out and is highly imaginative. This is due to the designer combining the ingredients in a illustrative way which celebrates nature.

Aesthetics

The colour palette of each design for this brand is visually pleasing and goes together well in terms of colour theory. The subtle colours imply high quality and luxury which looks sleek and modern. The composition is affective due to the designer having used the organic ingredients to create the letter ‘S’ in a subtle but effective way (due to the fluid composition of the shapes involved.) The design clearly shows which ingredients are in the bottle and how it is made, clearing any confusion for the customer.

Process

The copper cap is inspired by the copper stills in which the beverage has been made from. The actual design on the label is clearly inspired by animals which have been composed of vegetables/fruit, implying the brands aim to include organic produce in their products. The bottle is made from 100% recycled highball glass and the consumer/audience gets a feel for what the brand itself strives and cares for - the protection of the environment.

Audience

This brand has an audience of people who want to enjoy a non-alcoholic beverage and be included in social events. The design of this bottle really is suitable for any sort of gathering.

Paula Scher

An contemporary American Graphic Designer ,painter,author and Design educator.

Paula earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1970 she then began her careeras a layout artist for Random House.She then became an Art Director for Altantic records and then returned back to CBS where she remained as Art director for 8 years and produced as many as 150 albums each year.

Art Deco and Russian constructivism Inspired Paula Scher’s typography.She and fellow graduate Terry Kopple had founded Kopple and Scher in 1984 where they both produced many Identities,packaging,advertising and book jackets.Her work is familiar and is a style we see regularly on the high street.She has worked with Coca-Cola,Tiffany&Co also has done environmental designs and has recently created posters for the public theatre along with designing the iconic swatch poster modeled after Herbet Matter’s work.She uses techniques to get the crowd’s attention using juxtaposition of street typography and grafitti.

Her work is widely recognised and she is known as a celebrity achieving over 300 awards.Paula was the first female to be offered the principal position at the Pentagon she then expanded her expertise and became a design educator teaching at the school of Visual Arts for over 20 decades ,whilst in addition to teaching at prestigious art institutions including Cooper Union University of Yale and Tyler School of Art.

Paula Scher has revived old typefaces and design skills designing for Shakespear Festival in Central Park which campaign appeared all over New York on billboards,buses and subways and became a seasonal tradition which constantly evolved her designs.

Adrian Frutiger Active 1950s-2015

A Swiss Typeface Designer who at the age of sixteen was encouraged by his father to focus on an apprenticeship of which he completed a four year apprenticeship as a compositor whilst attending classes in woodcuts and drawing and created paper silhouettes.He had a massive passion for typography his whole life and started his career working for Deberney and Peignot which was a French foundry which dealt with linotype he would update typefaces and prepare them for photographic and digital typesetting whilst designing and refining his own typefaces.

Adrian Frutiger created almost 30 typefaces and created the famous typeface Univers for the Charles De Gaulle airport.His first commercial typeface was president followed by Ondine and Meridian he also created a sans serif font called Concorde in italic and bold used for a parisian printing company Sofratype.

He became hugely influential on the development of future sans-serif typefaces and inspired the likes of Erik Spiekermann and Steve Matteson.He created stamps to celebrate Swiss graphic design and was commissioned by a Swiss watchmaker to design a new watch face.Throughout his life he achieved many awards and was a highly influential typographer in his later life in 1998 he described that Didot would be his last Typeface design. He then went onto create Roots of letters which was playful and inspired by roman brush lettering and had drawn an alphabet playfully and inspired by pebbles which were later finalised by the Linograph team.

Louise Fili active 1975-current

An Italian American Graphic Designer enthralled by the Italian culture.

Her love for design started at a young age where she had taught herself calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts of Bob Dylan to sell to her classmates she then attended Skidmore college studying studio art,interned at the Museum of Modern Art whilst finishing her studies at the school of Visual Arts.

She worked with Random House a book publishing business for 11Years then becoming an Art Director for Pantheon books where she designed upto 2000 book jackets each with their own unique design exploring historic typography combined with modern colours and compositions.

Louise Fili took her inspiration from her love of Italy, Modernism, Art Deco styles and the Italian posters created by A.M Cassandre,Jean Carlu and Lucian Bernhard.

She collaborated with her husband author Steven Heller and also opened her own studio Louise Fili Ltd in 1989 specializing in restaurant identity food packaging and books where she continues to create Italian inspired designs.

She has taught for over twenty years at the School of Visual Arts,New York university and cooper union she also visits Rome every summer to do a SVA masters workshop and has achieved numerous medals in achievement awards.

Marseille influenced by Art Deco with six weights

Montecanini is inspired by the early 1900s stile liberty posters.

Mardell is an Italian Futuristic style made from cut wood to print.

Neville Brody 1975-current

An influential English graphic designer,typographer and Art Director.

He started as a student at the London college of communication where he was mostly not encouraged by his Tutors because of his experimental approach towards Design which later would be his asset.

His influences were punk rocking London,Dada,Futurism and constructivism.He is recognised for his works in record covers,Magazine art and typography he has massively impacted typography and is best known for his work with Face Magazine (Fashion Bible)which he ultimately revolutionise, by his experimental approach he gave Face magazine a distinguished look giving it a corporate identity by creating different logos for each article ,symbols for numbers arranging type in circles and diagonals. He knew that magazines were browsed by the consumer differently from reading a book and designed them in a way that the interesting parts were highlighted by using a variety of styles, sizes and colours to attract the eye on the one page.He used a style of lettering to illustrate the article along with the image.

Neville Brody created 21 font families , Times Modern , Arcadia and many more . Along with Erik Spiekermann he also founded the FontFont typeface.

He has collaberated with Berlin Graphic Artist Kolja Gruber and artist Nina Fischer.

He first opened a Design studio with his partner Fwa Richards in 1994 based in London which has now expanded with studios in Paris,Berlin and Barcelona.

Neville Brody became the head of visual Communication at the Royal College of Art in London in 2011 and he currently practices Graphic Design and the running of his studios.

Cover Art Barbara Wallace

In comparison to other climate change books I have viewed I find that this style of art really stood out to me. The colours are very subtle the way a jellyfish would be; not transparent but gives the sense of transparency through colour. The cover art has lovely, flowing shapes which gives off a sense of movement and allows the eye to travel and explore the illustration. Although I find the illustration really eyecatching, overall I don’t think that this book cover conveys the traumatic and negative impact of climate change, which I am aiming for for this project. The aspects that I would consider taking inspiration from would mainly be the composition but that’s about it.

Charles Tunnicliffe illustrated several of Henry Williamson’s books and graduated with distinction from the etching and engraving school in London.I like how complex this design is there are alot of intricate details with the different lines ,patterns within the shapes and contrasts nicely.I like the otter’s body is curved and how it all flow’s together.A good representation of sealife.

I find this book cover inspiring as it has lots of details that I quite like which are the curvature of lines that create different shapes and portray’s agricultural land.the bird’s gives it a good sense of movement within an overall still image.I find the way it incoporates type within the negative space of the hand quite a good touch and depicts the meaning of the book quite good.I would like to involve some of these elements into my own design.

My chosen three words inspired me to create a design using precision in geometric and delicate use of shapes.I wanted my design to be decorative,bold and display the words effectively which I believe that I have achieved this to the best of my ability.

I wanted to create a design with optimal contrast by using a dark background and create depth with scale and use of composition.I believe it was a good representational of the what3words application and I am pleased with the outcome.

aspects of my intial response to this brief I would have liked to improve on is my overall sketchbook material by having more experimental analogue work,focusing more on my design process from concept to steadily progressing to a final piece.I have Learned the ability to create unique concepts by only using three words and to deliver line contrast and colour harmoniously.

Our Lady of Grace

Montreal

reviving and old Montreal wall.An art project sponsored by the City of Montreal ia a modern take on Our Lady of Grace which was inspired by Czech art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha.

The project consisted of two weeks researching then a further 16 days working dawn til dusk to complete the five storey mural.

They used pumpkins as decorative ornaments within the mural as the area used to be marsh land where farmers would grow pumpkins.

San Basilio is a neighbourhood associated with high crime.The mural explores the relationship between man and nature and how nature always prevails which is represented through the idyllic arrangement of flower and insects.I really admire this piece of work it brings beauty and strength to an environment with struggles and gives inspiration back into community.

America rock band MGMT

released on February 9 2018 through Columbia Records and illustrated by Jim Taber this album cover has been described as a crude rendering of Edvard Munch's The scream but dressed as a clown.I like the loose style of this and the use of pointillism.
