Consumed by Shopping
I would describe my consumer identity as a thrifty shopper. I love to shop for clothing or other useful items at a discounted price or on sale. I was taught this method of shopping by my parents. They will shop around to find the best price and best quality of items. They do not spend their money just because, they save their money until they have enough to pay by cash. This reflect my quality of life by not being able to get the newest and upcoming things on the market because they say the price is usually inflated because of the consumers demand. I feel sad at times because when my friends say, “look what my parents bought” I wish I could have the same thing. I understand what they are trying to teach me but I sometimes wish it were different.
The first idea that I thought of was Scarcity. Example of a store... I knew so many people including myself that loved the store Lasenza Girl. I only like shopping because of that store. When they said they were going to close it there was only going to be little amount left... scarcity. I love saving money, but I had to buy all that I could because it was going to be gone forever. There were so many people and almost no close left. So many people wanted to get it before it was gone.
Moscow’s hierarchy of needs:
The physiological needs is the biggest section on the hierarchy. For me the largest section would be love and belonging. My family and my friends are so close; I don’t care if people make fun of me for it because I love them so much. They help me with all of the other sections on the hierarchy. In 1st world countries the physiological need everyone always wants more then they need. Buy too much food, need homes so big that you find your way and so much clothing that it won’t even fit in your closet. People want this to feel special and to be cool. It is all from what society sees is what you should have. Once you have physiological needs then you can have the rest. I disagree. You might not be rich with money but you can be rich with love.
