It is a mark of maturity when someone hurts you, and you try to understand them.
Such an underrated truth. (via pursuitofbeing)
To whom should I surrender? To your Self. Begin to do just that. While you are at work. While you are washing the dishes, while you are watching TV, you always remember to surrender. And one day the inner teacher pulls your mind inward to the Source and you Awaken. You become your Self.
Robert Adams (via lazyyogi)
You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
Marcus Aurelius (via thecalminside)
It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.
Marcus Aurelius (via thecalminside)
For every force there is a counterforce. Violence, even well intentioned, always rebounds upon oneself.
Lao Tzu (via thecalminside)
Flow with whatever may happen, and let your mind be free: Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate.
Zhuangzi (via thecalminside)
If we don’t know how to take care of ourselves and to love ourselves, we cannot take care of the people we love. Loving oneself is the foundation for loving another person.
Thich Nhat Hanh (via thecalminside)
The fear is simply because you are not living with life, You are living in your mind.
Jaggi Vasudev (via thecalminside)
When we're talking about art changing anything, we're talking about art changing a person, and what that person might do in response to this encounter with a work. There are definitely artworks that have changed me and not all of them were even works that I particularly liked.
I don't think art or at least my art should aim to be activist. All I can do is to express a relationship to my own conditions of being.
I sometimes think that my work is a way of expanding my possibilities of intimacy with others,
Among others, keep a check on your speech; When alone, keep a check on your mind.
Atisha (via thecalminside)
it's up to us to push the rules and laws.
I think what sets us apart from most is the attitude and subtle subversiveness baked into our products. We’re allergic to the rampant conformism in our industry. Too many sites are just exercises in good, generically appealing taste. Anyone can do that. It’s super boring. I think designers naturally just want to fit in, have a nice, cute life, do nice, cute things. Work hard, be nice to people. Read Kinfolk. Raw denim. Beards. Flat Whites. Nice fonts, nice illustrations, nice design. Go with the flow. Just good, tasteful things, experiences and activities. And before you know it, your life is an Instagram feed, literally indistinguishable to any other designer’s nice Instagram feed. You melted into the digital soup. So many digital agencies comprise of a bunch of straight, white bros with a female producer here and there for good measure. It’s unacceptable.
What do they never tell first-time filmmakers, but should? If you haven’t made your first film, there’s nothing to compare you to, which means sky’s the limit. You can literally do anything you want. It’s a remarkable position to be in and it only happens once. The first film is like putting on a fragrance that will attract your future cohorts; choose the scent wisely and love the smell madly.
