ISRAEL’S eyes peered up over the top of his laptop as his company stepped through the door. he felt like he’d been staring at the same screen for so long he wasn’t sure if he was seeing the same thing anymore. it was just a photo of a child holding a pink balloon but he couldn’t seem to get the right coloring. “okay, so I may have exaggerated just a bit on the severity of the situation,” he admitted softly as he gestured over to the computer. “do you think this looks better? or this? i’m worried these parents aren’t going to like anything.”
She wasn’t mad at all that Israel had exaggerated, but she was slightly bummed that there wasn’t a huge issue to fix. But still, she was here and determined to help out when she was needed. Carefully, she studied the picture. She didn’t know much about photography or editing, but she’d try. Glancing between the options, Jessy wrinkled her nose and darted eyes back and forth, trying to get a feel for what she’d like better if these pictures were for her. “I like this one,” she said, pointing. “Kinda makes the pink color in the balloon pop a little bit.”
Hearing the front door open, Athena was about to get up to answer it whenever she heard the familiar voice of Jessy. She knew to let herself in, so she remained seated, bringing her coffee up to her lips. “In the kitchen!” Her garbage disposal wasn’t working and she couldn’t figure out why, so she figured asking for assistance from Jessy wouldn’t be such a bad idea. And if they didn’t figure it out, well maybe it was time for a plumber. “Do you think we’ll be able to figure it out?”
When Athena had mentioned the garbage disposal, Jessy hadn’t actually ever fixed one herself, but how hard could it really be? A quick stop by her dad’s house to grab his toolbox and then to Athena’s wasn’t so bad, she was there in no time. Holding up the old dented metal toolbox, Jessy smiled. “If we can’t, then maybe call a plumber. But if we can then you save some money.” She gave a shrug and headed over to the sink and reached for the switch that turned on the disposal, but stopped just before she turned it on. “Okay--what’s going to happen if I flip this? A) nothing, B) a horrible noise, or C) nasty disposed food will fly in my face? I need to know before I commit.”
“Okay, have no fear, I am here. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to fix the issue, but I’ve brought along my toolbox of knowledge and my handy-dandy cell phone with Google on it. So if I can’t figure it out, someone else on the internet will have an answer... probably.”
I saw [JESSY HARDIMAN] at a coffee shop in [QUEENS] today. I forgot how much [SHE] looks like [ALLISON SCAGLIOTTI]. They are a [THIRTY] year old [CYBER CRIMES DETECTIVE] who’s been in NYC for [HER ENTIRE LIFE] now. Every time we run into each other, they are always [BUBBLY AND COMICAL] but I’ve heard people say they can also be [QUIRKY AND CLUMSY]. [WHERE IS MY MIND BY PIXIES] reminds me of them every time it comes on the radio.
I haven’t gotten around to a full bio but here’s what I know about Jessy so far;
Born and raised in New York -- her parents got divorced when she was three and her mom moved to the UK with her new husband, leaving Jessy to be raised by her dad.
Her dad is a retired firefighter/emt with the NYFD and still teaches CPR certification classes part time. He lives in Brooklyn.
She’s very close with her dad and talks to him almost every day on the phone
She’s always loved computers and technology. She knows how to do a fair bit of hacking.
She’d never thought about working for the police when she started college. But after a conversation with a professor planted the seed in her mind, she took a criminal justice class and then ran with it.
While she’s not technically a police officer and doesn’t have the ability to arrest people and give tickets, she does work for the NYPD in their cyber crimes department. After getting an internship right out of college that turned into a job, she’s now the second team lead in her department for the city. And she loves what she does (except the paperwork).
When she’s not working, Jessy is probably at home in her small one bedroom apartment in Queens. She can’t keep any plants alive so she has fake plants around her place. She doesn’t have cats or dogs, but she does have a bearded dragon named Reggie who she’s effectively taught to come when called.
She has a pretty good sense of humor and tends to use humor as a defense mechanism for... anything. Sad? Be funny. Angry? Be funny. Awkward? Be funny.
She’s clumsy and will knock over stuff or trip over her own two feet 90% of the time.
Wanted Connections:
Any kind of friend! She’s lived here her whole life, so friends from grade school, friends from college -- she went to NYU, friends from work.
Neighbors! She lives in an apartment in Queens, so anyone who might live in her building or on her floor.
Ex(es). She had a high school boyfriend who didn’t work out, but I’m thinking they’re just friends. And maybe a few guys she’s gone out with. She’s never really been into serious stuff, it’s typically been flings or just casual.
