chilly practices | chaerin & jung kyu
Smiling genuinely now, Jung Kyu nodded at his team mate’s game proposal, “Sure.” It beat standing around and feeling his cheeks grow more and more numb. He turned back towards the players on the bench to ask if any of them wanted to play as well but quickly changed his mind. They were all still caught up in their own worlds and would probably turn down an offer to come back to reality. He shook his head a bit as he turned back to the blonde girl. Though he didn’t speak to her regularly, he knew her name was Chaerin. How could he not? They were on the same after all.
Her name was one of the few things he knew about her, along with the fact that she was a fellow junior and never spoke much. Jung Kyu had never made that big of an effort to talk to her because she seemed comfortable with the group of people she already knew. He didn’t want to bother her and make her feel awkward. Now that it was her starting the conversation, he felt assured in talking to her.
“Alright, I guess it’s just you and me,” Jung Kyu said, smile still on his lips, as he kicked the ball lightly. It glided past Chaerin and he followed it, only slightly jogging because he didn’t feel like tiring himself out before practice even began. The cold air nipped his cheeks, bringing a bit of color to them. He grumbled at the feeling, “Stupid weather.” Turning back, Jung Kyu looked at Chaerin, “Here,” he kicked the ball back to her to get the mock game started.
Chaerin was never the one to ask other people or speak to them, even if she was quite comfortable. She looked at people as nuisance and had the same thought when it came to her. She didn’t want to be a bother as well, this seems to be an exception. Her urge to play soccer was huge, she desperately needed some exercise to warm herself up, school was still on for a few hours, she wanted to go home and rest, read an interesting book perhaps, drink something warm, just the usual things that girls—yes, even for her—like to do, yet, despite how much she wanted to, she couldn’t. It was still a pretty long day, the girl wasn’t motivated to do anything else other than soccer.
Fortunately, she was energized enough. She even started smiling and as she jogged towards the ball as it came to her direction, stopping it with her right foot before making her way towards the goal, the tip of her tongue sticking out just past her lips as she leisurely kicks the ball back and forth against her feet. Her eyes turned into thin crescents as she did so, usually, she would do it out of embarrassment or awkwardness, along with a shy smile that quickly turns into a blank and cold expression afterwards. The girl didn’t know how to interact with others, or at least how to interact properly. She was either too shy or too annoyed, Jung Kyu was an exception though, she always crossed paths with him and she could tell he was a friendly young man the way he has friends around and is pretty known in the campus.
She lifts her gaze up from time to time as she watches Jung Kyu’s every move closely. With a small ‘oof’ sound escaping her lips, she gives the ball a stern kick towards the net, her lower lip tucked between her teeth as she trails along behind.
