anon im gonna be really honest and say i've never found a fiwi fic i like enough to rec :') usually either warchers characterization is Off or fspirits characterization is Off and it ruins the whoole fic,,,
so uh. if anyone has any Accurately Written fic recs, im all ears!! my favorite fic genre is sickfics but i'll take anythin :)
actually do y'all ever wonder why fire spirit was so fucking mean to sherbet cookie. like obviously the out of story explanation is 'they hadnt solidified his kingdom characterization yet' but thats not the point. seeing as it hasn't been retconned; why the fuck was he so mean...
i have a few explanations in mind, but they are entirely speculation + based on my own analysis of fire spirit and the way he responds to implications of weakness. will elaborate if anyones interested :)
cracks my knuckles. this is so long and took me 2 hours to write
Towards the Light analysis; the rhyme and reason behind Fire Spirit Cookie's odd behavior
to preface this; i am kingdom only! i do not play ovenbreak, nor am i interested in its lore. this is exclusively analysis of kingdom's portrayal of fire spirit. that being said, i may use the treasure of legends as cross referencing material to prove some of my points, seeing as the characterization isn't quite as different as most people claim!
so, if you're as Normal about fire spirit as i am, i'm sure you remember towards the light. our first introduction to fire spirit cookie in kingdom, in which he acted.. nothing like he does in the flame awakens.
now, that may seem like it's nothing- and honestly? probably is- but i'd like to look at it through a more analytical lens, because once you place the pieces together, it really begins to make sense.
for this piece, i'm going to go line by line picking apart what he says and how he responded to sherbet simply... existing in his vicinity.
(and, as much as it is funny to say he just hates sherbet, i don't think he does at all. it runs a little deeper than that)
i will not be taking tone of voice into account just yet, seeing as we didn't have a full read on kingdom fire spirit and, as talented as they are, i doubt his va did either
getting right into it; the introductory dialogue to the dragons valley cutscene
now, honestly, i don't think this is too far out of left field for fire spirit cookie just yet. the dramatics of his introduction sentence, attempting to make himself threatening, as daring as the dragons that his domain contains, is pretty average fire spirit behavior when he's faced w/ a potential threat he isn't familiar with.
i don't think i necessarily need to cross reference for this (you can look at any of his dialogue with agar agar in the flame awakens for this one), but if i do, let me know!
he quickly changes his tune once sherbet announces himself- he is clearly already familiar with sherbet to some regard. what seems to interest him is what the fuck is an ice cookie doing here?
'Trying to become Water Drop Cookie or something?' is a line i read as fire spirit's usual demeanor; bordering on unserious, generally taunting in a way that i don't think is supposed to be threatening.
all in all, this seems like classic fire spirit behavior.
until we get here.
now, there is a cross reference i can use here, but i'm going to save it for the end to bring this all together.
fire spirit cookie grows immediately defensive upon sherbet stating his business. acting as if he doesn't care
which, well.. i'd say he does. he may act like he doesn't, but-
it's not that he doesn't care. he's, and i say this with so much affection for him, just lazy.
it is genuinely as simple as that; he does not enjoy having to get off his ass and do something. he enjoys a good fight (proven by him outright stating that fighting agar agar was kinda Fun, despite how much it wore him out at the end), but if it's a job he has to do then it's not really as fun. of course, if that job is showing off how strong he is, i'm sure he'll get into it and start having a bit more fun... but guardian duties aren't really like that.
the fact he WILL do his duties if pressed, the fact he WILL defend the valley with all his might (again, see the flame awakens), proves to us that he does care. he accepted the duty of carrying earthbread on his shoulders. he joined the war, he fought at the other guardians sides, he clearly cares!
but here, he is acting aloof and getting defensive immediately. why?
well, i think that becomes a bit clearer the further we go on.
'Has she grown so weak that she neds to send a kid in her stead?'
and here we are, at the first mention of the concept of weakness.
now, to get into the details of all of fire spirit's whole deal with weakness would be its whole own post, so i won't go too far into it here. if you have been paying close attention to his dialogue and behavior, you will have already noticed that he reacts quiite poorly to implications of personal weakness.
to show a few references;
the flame awakens repeatedly leans on the motif of fire spirit and weakness. others calling him weak, implying he is weak, agar agar full on speaking down at him as if he is not a threat. fire spirit repeatedly reacts poorly to it; growing more aggressive/determined, taking on a more pissed off tone, finally going all out the moment agar agar outright uses the word 'weak' on him.
it's clear fire spirit cookie has an issue with the idea of himself being weak. it's a sore spot that people just keep prodding, and every time it quickly becomes his mission to prove them wrong.
after all, he IS flame incarnate (hey, evidence that he finds combat fun, too! score). flames aren't weak, he is the furthest thing from weak there is and you better acknowledge it.
you can even find evidence of this in his ovenbreak story!
habanero has the gall to scoff at him, and he absolutely loses it because HEY. he is literally the eternal flame. fuck you (really funny that he's not afraid to threaten a child. why is this a repeating theme. stop fighting children, man)
(i'd like to note that fire spirit does go on to comfort habanero later on, uplifting his strengths and encouraging him! implications of weakness don't seem to drag him down for long in ovenbreak- they seem to just piss him off rather than affect him in any tangible way- but we can't apply that to kingdom fire spirit juuust yet)
how is this relevant? well.
fire spirit cookie is percieving the warning as an implication of personal weakness.
the way he pauses, the way he immediately turns it around to making fun of frost queen. the snappy response that his flames are FINE. he is percieving the idea of frost queen cookie, a cookie of ice, daring to warn him, flame incarnate, as an insult to his strength. whatever is affecting a cookie of ice won't harm the eternal flame, and how dare you imply it would.
now, obviously that wasn't sherbets intention. but fire spirit is so fucking touchy about weakness that a warning feels like an insult. again, i will elaborate on this toward the end, there's still a lot to go through!
we're going to address the final segmennt in parts, because there are two major details about this that speak on different aspects of fire spirit cookie.
again, he is being defensive. he has percieved an implication of weakness, and he is immediately growing snappy about it. the fact that it was frost queen who sent this kid alone is enough of an insult, but implying a drain on his power is even fucking worse. he is the eternal flame, he couldn't care less about what harms a frost cookie. obviously (he is lying, he does care. we know he cares. this is his favorite bit to do- the 'im cool and i dont care. ignore me caring ignore me caring IGNORE ME CARING' bit)
'The weak always make a fuss about EVERY ITSY-BITSY CHANGE in the world.'
this line. is so fucking interesting. because if you're familiar with fire spirit's affection dialogue (yes we're bringing cookiechat into this), wings of fire's 5th affection line is "I've got a soft spot for the weak". outright admitting he is fond of those who may be weaker than him- and yet here he is, treating someone he percieves as weaker (not to mention this is implying he believes frost queen is weak. interesting perspective you've got there, fire) as if they have personally wronged him.
why would he be treating sherbet this way if he admits a fondness for the weak?
well,
this. puts it into perspective.
'Didn't you become a spirit because you wanted to be free?'
freedom is a large motif of fire spirit cookie's story, too. if you're familiar with the millennial advent, you will remember this line;
'To burn is to never be able to stop yourself. That's what fire is. To be caged, shackled- I'd rather burn out than endure that.'
fire spirit outright implies he would rather DIE than be caged. why he may be saying this, we aren't sure yet- i assume it connects to his origin but well... we don't have his origin story yet. (devsis, get on that please)
fire spirit cookie is familiar with sherbet. he is familiar with frost queen. with this in mind, he is likely also aware they, much like him, were once mortal.
if i may hazard a reach; its sounds to me like he sees himself in sherbet cookie. there is implication that fire spirit cookie himself made that deal with pitaya in desperation to survive, to be free. the key point here being that fire spirit percieves them as weaker than himself.
i could hazard a reach and say that he may believe that sherbet and frost queen had it far easier than he did, but we have not seen enough of them interacting to know that for sure. either way, we know strength is everything to him. and sherbet isn't very strong, is he? and after implying that fire spirit is weak... well. it becomes a bit clearer why he may be snapping at sherbet like this.
weakness is already such a fucking touchy subject for him, so having an ice cookie- a cookie who shouldnt even be able to stand in his presence without melting- in his domain, calling him weak (which wasnt sherbets intention but it seems fire took it that way).
frost queen could have shown up herself if it was that important. ('If Frost Queen Cookie is in trouble, then let her deal with it') the fact that she sent her little messenger may just feel like her insulting him.
and you may be wondering why i'm saying he's taking this as an insult. well, to circle back to that cross reference i mentioned near the start;
the warning was implication of weakness to him. his flames are FINE. sure, the valley feels a bit colder lately, but he's not weaker for it. (also, it's interesting he says 'little elementals'. he very much views sherbet as beneath him and its a little funny. thats a kid, fire spirit)
after all, his fire needs no fuel to burn. he burns hotter than the red dragon! he doesn't NEED life energy as his fuel, his flame burns eternal without anything to bolster it.
all this to say;
fire spirit cookie's behavior in toward the light circles back to his issue with weakness. he was confronted with a warning that he took as implication of personal weakness and lashed out.
do i think he hates sherbet? no. do i think he views sherbet and frost queen as weaker than him? ohhh, absolutely. flames are supposed to melt ice! in fact, he breaks out of frost queen's power with ease in the flame awakens.
it is the fact that someone who is supposed to be weaker than him was standing in front of him and warning him that set him off. he got the final word and fucked off without giving sherbet the chance to imply any more weakness (again, wasn't sherbets intention but fire spirit is so sensitive on the subject)
all in all, i hope this helped shed light on his behavior in toward the light! if there's anything i may have forgotten or anything anyone wants to add, you're more than welcome to pop in a reblog or an ask! i am always happy to talk about this little guy
wait. did people genuinely think scoop wouldn't be part of the main story??? y'all,,, where else would they be,,, they're interacting with a situation (pitaya possession) that leads Into the main story,,,
I assumed they would have a story event, similar to the millennial tree story.I don't hate the fact they have a card but makes interested about remaining cards since there are 8 left now loool

Trans intersex people are used as a gatcha card for arguments
Trans people of colour experience all of these things.
NOW is the time to look out for eachother and rember that we may be oppressed in different ways and working through our differences and that understanding other people is hard but we need to fight for eachother and work through all these things for a future where we're safe and free to be ourselves! Understand that someone commenting on something you did as being bigoted it is not an attack on you; we are all fallible and need opportunities like that to learn!
