My Week 2 submission to @mistria69min !! I love Balor sm,, I think what really sold me on his character is the Snicklefritz dnd saga. I like to imagine that’s a nickname of his now lol

yk actually I do want to talk about it a bit. Touchstarved chapter 1 spoilers below, I'm going to do my best to not get into anything too specific but even still.

(Disclaimer that I've only done Leander's route, so my thoughts only pertain to what went on there)

After playing the Chapter 1 preview I'm honestly kind of underwhelmed, even a little disappointed. Although Leander was my favorite in the demo, I came away not liking his Ch1 route much at all. I wondered if maybe a different route might be more for me, but I've heard that the issues I have are present in all of them, so maybe not.

My main issue is with pacing. It feels like the relationship between the MC and Leander had progressed way too fast, like they'd known each other for weeks instead of two days. I've seen a couple people say this feels more like a mid-game chapter and I agree. I'm especially bothered by how the MC was acting, it felt like they were way more into him and trusting of him than was warranted for such a short amount of time. Their reaction to the reveal towards the end was so annoying, the switch from anger to desire…c'mon now. I also had chosen the Alchemist background, so between having already experienced a major betrayal beforehand and then being lied to over something fairly important by someone who keeps stressing about trust, I would expect them to become more guarded, not less. On Leander's end, some of his behavior felt a little too intense. I know he's supposed to be the obsessive and possessive one, but again, the amount of time that has passed does not feel like enough for him to be saying some of the things that he did.

I had other problems but they're kind of hard to get into without getting very spoilery, that was just the biggest one. Ultimately the preview has left me uncertain about the full release and wondering if this is my type of game anymore. Honestly I have been feeling less and less interested in anything romance-heavy in the time since backing the project and some of my frustrations with the genre were present in the preview, so it's totally possible that I'm no longer the right audience if this is what the full game will be like. I'll still play it, just with more tempered expectations. I do at the very least hope that the full game slows down and lets the relationships build a little more before getting into some of the conversations and behaviors present in the preview.

Briefly switching topics, I do wonder how the devs are expecting to get feedback from this preview, if they are at all? I don't think there was a link to a form like there was with the original demo, and if we're supposed to keep chatter to a minimum on social media to be courteous of non-backers then...

The whole backer situation has been bothering me.

I usually don’t vent, but in my opinion this whole dynamic has taken something really important away from the community: communication and the simple joy of talking and theorising together publicly.

I’ve noticed it for a long time now. Backers get early information, sometimes even things that never get posted publicly at all, and that splits the conversation. We end up discussing everything privately among ourselves, and by the time it becomes public, the hashtag is already dead because all the excitement and theories already happened behind closed doors.

As a result, the touchstarved hashtag is often dry or already over before the wider community even gets a chance to participate.

I’m not saying backers shouldn’t get the rewards they absolutely deserve. After all, they are the ones who financially supported the project to make it what it is now.

And as someone who was there from the very beginning. someone who came over from the last Legacy and Arcane fandom after everything that happened with Nix Hydra and the Dorian, I can say that I truly love this game and support it fully and i absolutely love this community.

I loved making theories together and collectively getting excited about every new update, all the beautiful art and fanfictions that came out of it too.

But the gap seems to be getting bigger. backers who get all the updates and information, and non-backers who get very little. And with the new update, I just felt the need to say it.

That’s just my opinion, and maybe everyone sees it differently. I just had the feeling I needed to say it out loud.

Balor being unexpectedly bad at romance is so hilarious and endearing to me. Like, I think the general expectation from the fandom was that he'd be an old hand at flirting. This guy is practically swimming in charisma and charm when you first meet him. It was not unreasonable to anticipate him being perhaps the most confident and suave out of all the potential marriage candidates.

Then the dating mechanic dropped, and it turns out nah, actually he melts into an anxious puddle the moment romance enters the picture. He cannot get a date to go smoothly to save his life, no matter how meticulously he plans it. His ability to butter up potential customers is unparalleled, but as soon as he wants to give a sincere compliment, suddenly he's on the same level as Li Shang from Mulan; "You, uh....You look nice." His first move after he starts dating is to beg Hemlock for relationship advice. My man has consorted with criminals, dallied with ne'er-do-wells, and had at least one near-fatal injury at some point in his past, yet the most terrifying thing in the world to him is literally just his own feelings. He's so attractive and pathetic. Peak character writing tbh. I adore him even more now.
