books?? amazing. paperbacks?? soft, cozy, may fit in your pocket, cheap so you don’t feel bad for taking notes in them. hardcovers??? beautiful, pristine, ground you into the world they hold by making you grip them tighter, the stars of every bookshelf. ebooks?? convenient, cheap, always with you, a vast library that you can hold in your palm. new books?? crisp, the smell of wood, ideas waiting to imprint themselves upon the world. old books?? objects transcending history, sweet smelling, enriched by the hands that stroked their pages. books.

This is your reminder to be gentle with yourself. Be kind. Be loving. Be understanding. Be everything you would be if it was a friend who needed you. Know that you are doing your best. Know that you are trying. Will you mess up? Yes. Will you feel down? Absolutely. But that is what life is about. That, my love, is being human. What matters is how you react to the struggles you face. Learn from mistakes, see the lessons and know that your 'failures' do not define you. You are worth everything, even while you are growing.

I think in this internet age it is vital to ask yourself if your consumption of media is helping you or harming you. Before you watch/read/listen to anything, ask yourself “Does this deserve my interest? Does this deserve my energy? Does this deserve my time?”. Most content might be free, but remember you are paying with your attention and your time, and they are as valuable as your money. I’m not trying to be self-righteous; if watching funny dog compilations is what you need at the moment, indulge! Just make sure you’re benefiting from using technology and not using it as self-harm.

Can we please stop associating being a good person with how much you're willing to suffer in silence for other people? You can be a kind person and still say "no, I don't have the time/energy to help you with that." You can be a kind person and still say "this makes me uncomfortable, please stop." You can be a kind person and still say "I disagree and here's why." You can be kind and still say "I'm not okay with this." Being kind is about treating people with kindness and respect, not about being the human equivalent of a doormat!

04.12.2020 | Huge language weekend! I reviewed all 9 units of grammar from studyspanish.com, which felt equivalent to all three years of Spanish I took back in high school. Usually I would advise against studying only grammar, but since I’ve learnt this all before, I figured I’d try (re)learning everything first and then just plug and chug vocab later on!
