Memories - Phoenix 138
My father was quite the storyteller when I was younger, still is kind of... though not as much as he used to, old age does that to a lot of people. There was one story in particular that I loved as a kid, the one about the Chosen from Ascalon. Cynn in particular really struck a chord with me (I always loved her fiery attitude), almost to the point where I wanted to give up learning to be a guardian and become an elementalist! Obviously I stuck with my training, and I’m really glad I did. My magic can help people, because my duty is to protect the citizens of Kryta and my comrades in arms as a Blade.
Although, I’m writing today not to talk about old stories, today’s story is a little bit different... My father asked me over earlier this morning, the letter said it was something important. Seeing as he rarely asks me over, I did my best to free up some time from my duties to visit the family manor. Been awhile since I last visited the place, was after I graduated from the academy and became an official Shining Blade. Mother would’ve been proud I’m sure, if she were still alive...
That’s neither here nor there however. Onto the important details since I’m running out of ink. I sat myself next to my father’s bedside, his condition was definitely not improving... I’m scarred to think just how much time he has left? Anyway, after a few minutes of catching up, my father described to me something... well I wasn’t really expecting, I have an older sister, eight years my senior and out in the world without knowing who her family is. I’m still trying to grasp at the idea that my parents abandoned her... I’ll write more about the details when I next buy more parchment and ink for personal use. I’m torn on whether I should try to find her or not to be honest, she’s been on her own for so long now, would she even care if I tried to? It’s all so much to take in... but at least I know her name, Catherine. I hope the gods have been merciful and given you a wonderful life... sister. Maybe we’ll meet one day.
