There’s a great and unrelenting darkness
It travels close behind me
It has many hands and the hands are all it has
It is great and unrelenting
it chases to catch me
Sometimes it gets tired
and it falls very far behind
It doesn’t ever stop though
it just slowly wriggles on its palms
Sometimes I get tired
and I let it catch me
And it grabs and grabs and tries to bite
though it has no jaws
So it holds on to my body
and it sinks me down inside it
The great and unrelenting darkness is quiet
It holds hard but not enough to leave a mark
I believe it wants me to free myself
I believe it loves the chase
There are times in which I wait there
Deep inside the darkness
I am very quiet
And it slowly strokes my hair
I think if I leapt out towards it
Arms outstretched and open
Maybe I could hold it too
