Another one from the archives. MC and Jihyun share a kiss for the first time. This one was based on his 2020 Birthday CG.
The park was one of her favorite places she'd discovered during the time Jihyun spent abroad. Two weeping willow trees whose branches kissed the ground provided a dreamy respite from the world outside, embracing them gently where they sat on a wooden bench together. He hadn't been home long– fifteen days– but they'd been inseparable since he stepped off the plane. There had been lots of quiet moments, longing glances, holding hands, words exchanged and meals shared.
But much to her dismay, he hadn’t kissed her. Not yet.
It was deep into autumn when he arrived home. Blue skies and chill breezes served as a backdrop to the world doused in hues of red, gold, and green; everywhere she looked, bursts of color filled her senses, and winter’s breath upon the air colored her cheeks and nose a vibrant pink. The earthy smell of fallen leaves as they walked along the small path made her homesick, each satisfying crunch bringing them closer to their destination. Tucked under her arm was the book they’d been reading together– a favorite of hers from her high school Literature class, a well loved, worn volume that she often quoted in letters to him when they were apart.
They didn’t say much as they walked. Really, they barely spoke at all, except to comment on a chipmunk that scurried in front of them and a crow that screamed overhead. Warm and comfortable after sharing a coffee and croissant at the cafe a few blocks away, they simply enjoyed one another’s company for the time being.
Once they reached the trees, she slowed her pace and looked up at them in wonder.
“They’re not as tall as I remember,” she murmured. Jihyun took a couple of long strides to come and stand beside her, quietly slipping his hand into hers and giving it a subtle squeeze. It made her heart skip a beat, and she turned to him with a smile. “Are you cold?”
He returned her smile and shook his head. “Not when I’m with you.” And he stepped forward, pushing back the branches of the tree as if it were a curtain. It was, in a way, he supposed. He held it up until she’d stepped under his arm, and he watched her for a moment there, with her head tilted back and her mouth slightly open as she studied their private little space. Suddenly, they were the only two people in the world. Or at least, under the willow tree. And oh, when she turned to smile at him and held out her hand, he felt his soul take wing, because she had to be the most beautiful creature he’d ever laid eyes on. There was something about the way the late afternoon sun filtered through the leaves, the way it slanted upon her hair and shone a heavenly, otherworldly light in her eyes. In her charcoal grey coat and her red scarf tied up around her neck, she rocked on her toes and giggled. He thought he might die on the spot.
“What are you waiting for?” she asked, averting her eyes, modest and demure (maybe on purpose). “Come sit with me. We’re getting to the best part.”
With her other hand, she waved the book at him and took a step toward the bench. Of course Jihyun followed, hands pushed into the pockets of his coat. He sat down just as she did, a few inches left between them, turned just slightly so that he could look at the words as they read together.
“Do you want to read, or should I?” she asked, removing the bookmark and placing it between some random beginning pages.
“I like the way it sounds in your voice.” A true– if not a very forward– statement. She still wasn’t used to Jihyun’s no-nonsense compliments.
So she wiggled her hips, cleared her throat, lifted her chin, and began.
"He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God.” She paused to swallow against the dryness in her throat and encountered a lump there as well. Probably her heart, she wagered, as it began to beat just a little faster.
Jihyun wasn’t watching the words on the page.
He was watching her face as she read. Watching her lips move, the flash of teeth, the movement of her tongue as she formed each word. She took a deep breath and continued, unable to conceal her growing smile.
She had him right where she wanted him, and was hard-pressed to not sneak a look at his eyes, which she knew were upon her with focused intent.
“So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her.”
His breath was against her cheek then, and she felt the ever-so-subtle nudge of his fingers under her chin. Still, she didn’t dare to look at him. The words on the page blurred in and out of focus and she exhaled a giddy breath. The fire under her skin set her cheeks ablaze despite the autumn chill. Her grip on the book tightened in a desperate attempt to ground herself to something. The anticipation was rich. Stubbornly, she kept reading.
“At his lips’ touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.”
By way of the softest, most gentle press of his lips to hers, he quieted her. For a moment, she froze, then her eyes fluttered closed and she lowered the book to her lap, allowing herself to be kissed properly for the very first time in her life. Certainly she had kissed others before, but not like this. Never like this. Never by a man who had spent two years away from her trying to figure out who he was so that he was able to love her with his whole self when he came back to her. Surely, she’d never been kissed with such intention and conviction yet somehow delicate intimacy. He was impossibly soft with lips that felt and tasted of something she’d longed for her entire life and only just then realized what that something was.
Him. This was the kiss she’d been waiting for. The man she knew would come to her rescue one day, and she to his. A kiss, a promise, a gentle nudge of tongue and a theft of souls intertwined. The book in her lap lay forgotten now as she combed her fingers through the hair at the side of his head to hold him close, to make sure that he stayed within reach.
Positively intoxicated, she drew back and rested her forehead against his.
“Hi,” she breathed.
He chuckled– a whisper, a white puff of breath between them as the sun went down at their backs. “Hi.”
She panted, swallowed, then resumed catching her breath. “That was. Um...yeah.”
“It’s convenient,” he said with a grin, and she thought that his resulting dimple would surely be the death of her right then and there. She admired the way his eyes wrinkled at the corners, the way the blue-green of his irises seemed deep and fathomless as the ocean. “Convenient...that you read to me about when he kisses her.”
And so she kissed him this time, with a bit more force than he had kissed her. The book fell from her lap onto the dormant grass at their feet, and the cool skin of her palm met the heated softness of his cheek. He let himself fall into her, thumbs caressing the line of her jaw, just in front of her ears, the other fingers of his hand resting against either side of her neck. He wondered why he’d waited so long...why he’d ever doubted that it would be anything less than perfect when they finally came together.
Her hum vibrated against his mouth and he pulled away, initially taking her bottom lip with him. She let one of her hands fall to fidget with the scarf around his neck, her eyes following her work. “Why did we wait so long?”
He brushed her bangs away from her forehead and pressed a kiss at her brow, then between her eyes. “I could ask you the same question.”
“I was waiting for you.” Truth. She’d wanted to kiss him the moment she fell into his arms at the airport, but there were words to exchange in person first. Plans to make, living arrangements to solidify. Then, she’d wanted to kiss him after they shared their first meal. Then, after the RFA fundraiser that welcomed him home. Then...then…
But it wouldn’t have been right. Wouldn’t have been quite as perfect. They’d spent weeks building this intimacy, this quiet understanding of each other, their patterns, their habits. She didn’t want to rush. Didn’t want to push him.
So quietly, he closed his eyes against her cheek, lashes tickling her skin. Palm pressed against the side of her neck, he kissed her jaw, then whispered against her ear: “Thank you.”
She cried, then. Overcome, overwhelmed. And she knew in that moment that no matter where life took them, they would remain together. She felt a little silly feeling that after what was– as a matter of fact– just a kiss. But in some sense, it was a promise. A promise of love. A promise to always take their time with the steps they would walk as a pair.
The book remained forgotten at her feet when they found each other once more and kissed until the sun settled below the horizon and the stars twinkled overhead in an indigo blanket of clear, autumn night sky.
playing any of the other routes knowing full well that V is going to die alone by the end: .... y. yeah! :')) the coffee is... its really good, jaehee! its. its delicious :')
one of the most interesting things about v is how he takes advantage of his position and the trust ppl have in him. he shuts down any hint of doubt right away! it’s one of the ways he tries to keep the burden of the truth to himself but ends up hurting the ppl around him :(
he’s isolated and withdrawn, he’s loyal to a fault, and he’s wrapped himself in a web of lies in a vain attempt to protect those around him… it really is no wonder that his life ended so tragically the way it does without any outside interference from mc u__u
i need to get back into the swing of drawing v! if you have any requests or ideas or suggestions, please hit me up and send an ask thru retrospring !! \o/
