i explained to pixel ln abt how my splinter is a little different than canon. let me make one thing clear; i'm NOT redacting his season 1 neglect. he very clearly dissociated and distanced himself from his children, having lost the meaning of family throughout the years of neglecting his own physique, practice, and parental role. these were his years of extreme depression, of being stuck in the headspace of glory days' looming shadow and refusing to accept the reality that his mutation will never revert and allow him a second chance.

part of growth is experience through making mistakes through attempts to change, as well as acknowledging you must move on. it takes him a very long time of both being reminded that times are changing / it's time to move on, as well as his sons very clearly showing signs of needing his guidance. it's unfortunate it takes him so long to notice his familial responsibilities, but splinter does slowly but surely make the effort towards aiding his disciples / sons / students.

my personal portrayal of splinter takes place midway between season 2 and movie development, with a mix of formal etiquette and wisdom from 2012's tmnt.

i am not a splinter redemptionist, nor an apologist. character flaws and behaviors are what lead to the best growths in character development.

so  i  found  some  clips  in  between  marathoning  episodes  ( i  stopped  after  down  w  the  sickness  for  a  ramen  break )  and  honestly ?   it  conveys  so  much  of  splinter’s  personal  growth  behind  emotional  fight  music  stretching  from  his  movie  years ,  to  watching  his  sons  slowly  learning  from  his  fighting  style ,  to  actively  participating  in  their  lives  and  watching  them  hones  their  mystic  aura .   i’m  finna  start  crying  yo  and  i  only  just  sat  down  to  continue .   idk  if  i  can  do  this  alone  man  and  pixel  won’t  be  home  to  binge  w  me  for  another  couple  hours,  hgngngn

father is first silent as leonardo begs the question , a harsh reminder of current day reality —– of an end to his own fantasies . lou , you are no more . a sigh finally leaves shaken stature , tail crooked and restraining growing self - born frustration .

he had struggled alone for so long , why bother sharing that weight on those bearing the brunt of his enemies ? ratty wit snaps at the breach of splinter's own vulnerability .

fingers  run  slowly  over  old  magazine  cover ,  lou .   .   .   oh ,  how  he  misses  that  name .   but  his  time  in  the  spotlight  is  over ,  and  struggle  for  glory  he  may  try ,  it’s  high - time  he  steps  down  to  allow  his  sons  to  shine .   splinter’s  glory  days  are  over ,  and  his  era  as  clan  elder  now  rises ;   yes ,  he  too  must  rise .         a  smile  cracks  along  his  whiskered  maw .   how  proud  is  he  of  how  much  his  sons  have  grown .                            he  only  wishes  he  stepped  up  to  plate  sooner .

“  oh ,  to  be  young  again ?   such  slanderous  mentality .   no ,  i  can  no  longer  cling  to  falsehoods .   my  time  has  passed .  ”              he’s  almost  sorrowful  as  he  moves  to  take  a  sip  of  his  xxl  big  gulp .    “  my  sons .  .  .   how  far  you  have  come .   if  only  you  knew .  ”
