Making saag murgh today

Recipe: Mince garlic + ginger, dice 1/2 red onion + tomato. Wash spinach then blanch, pour out most of the water, blend spinach with immersion blender. In another pan add a spoon of ghee, cook chicken 80% of the way and set aside, then sauté onions, garlic, ginger, add spices (I usually use cumin, garam masala, turmeric, coriander, but this time I also added clove and cardamom to see how it would turn out). Add tomatoes, deglaze, add chicken back and finish cooking, finally add spinach purée. Serve with Greek yogurt and garlic naan

I saw this last year picnicking in prospect park and I have wanted to have one since

I did a little research in r/nycparents because I’ve been thinking for a while about whether or not I want to become a parent.

I think what initially gave me pause is I just didn’t know if it was actually feasible for me, because everyone I’ve spoken to says they’d need to make $300k+ combined income to even consider having a child which is probably feasible for partner and me, but it would take a big force to change the path I’m currently on (which is chilling at $75k/yr in my $600/mo 1bd apartment). The more I read the more I feel like I could(???) make having a child work without changing my job or apartment which is kinda crazy and makes me feel excited at the idea.

I mean nothing about it would be ideal - raising a child in a 1bd apartment seems like it would be extremely challenging BUT some of my older neighbors who live in like the same unit as me but on a different floor said they literally did this. They said initially when the child was born they gave the child the bedroom and converted their living room into a studio, but when the kid got older he wanted to be in the living room so he could watch tv so they ended up switching and it all worked out and now this child is in their 40’s lol

I’m not sure if the excitement I’m feeling is indicative of the fact that I actually do want children / to be a parent, or if it’s the same rush when you realize you could potentially get away with something (like finessing a free drink at the bar or finding a $20 bill on the street). But yeah I was reading and I found out from reading the sub that my apartment is zoned into a really good public elementary school that’s lowkey a feeder into the good public high schools, so there’s no reason to move if we can make it work. Ah!!!

I guess because before I did all this research I was like. Ugh I’d have to move but I don’t wanna give up my apartment. But if I did move, I’d probably move into that park slope zone that all the nyc parents are gunning for, which means I’d have to get a new job, and probably move my parents into the current apartment so they can help out/watch their grandkid. All of which means I’d have to put my jewelry dreams on hold, and be in this rat race that I technically signed up for but don’t really wish to be a part of. But realizing I don’t have to do that if I don’t want to is kinda liberating

One comment said that the parents of the students at the elementary school were zoned into tend to be in the arts / creative field or professors, which is encouraging because it means they’re not making investment banking money $$$ in fact I once saw an Asian woman with neon-yellow hair drop off her child at a school, and later that day I saw her in a clothing shop that it looked like she owned and I was like woahhhh there are cool people who become parents?? And now that I’ve done my research I realize now that the school she dropped her kid off is the same school I would send my kid to based on zoning
