“Why do you do music? Is it for the girls? The money? The Fame?”
I make music because it is something I really enjoy. If you know me, you know I don't discuss my inner feelings much to anyone. Lyrics is a way I talk about my feelings. Performing live is a way to vent, a way to release stress. I rarely party, (unless it's a special occasion or if i'm visiting a friend at college) Drinking, Smoking, just drugs in general is rare for me (due to younger siblings, I have to be a good role model, etc.) So with drugs out the picture, there's only one way to release my stress and that's music. Another reason why is because I want to make my family proud of me. I wanna be able to take care of everything. Make sure that everyone is good. Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, everyone. Doing something I enjoy, instead of a regular 9 to 5.
I started doing music when I was 12, thanks to my child hood bestfriend and brother Kurt Uy . He got me into instruments and Fall Out Boy. I remember when he bought his first guitar, I thought it was the coolest fucking thing ever. (Which is why I bought a guitar; It was the same guitar haha, a red SG to be exact). I remember being over his house and him giving me guitar lessons, reading guitar magazines, everything was dope. Then watching his band Sauk Bother, (They were raw as hell). I am very thankful I met Kurt, he's influenced me a lot as a musician.
Another person music got me closer with is my bestfriend Matty Jiles . It's crazy because if you know Matt and I, we are two different people. Two different friend groups, two different styles, but music brought us together. I met Matt a LONG time ago at Zone Comics (shout to OT for having local shows). He was in a band called "Dream Drop Distance" while I was solo. Fast forward to 4 years later, we met again at a local show where we both performed. I at the time was searching for a drummer ( Matt was drumming for the band performing, he did a dope job). So we ended up linking a couple weeks later and started Enough For Now full band. Any who, I can honestly say Matt has done a lot for me. He has helped me mature as a person and a musician. Without Matt, I probably wouldn't be the person I am today. He's one of the main reasons why I work hard at this. I want him to be there with me on stage, playing live and I want him to succeed with me.
To wrap this up, I do music because I love it. I love it more than anything. Music has helped me not only mentally but emotionally. Music has brought me closer to people I've never thought in a billion years I'd be friends with but I'm very thankful for those I am close with. I'm not gonna say it's easy because music is hard. Every once in a while I get discourage, every once in a while I feel like I lose myself. Rethink my ways, consider just doing the "american dream" but once I sing, it's like everything disappears. The problems and the stress. So again, shout out to music for helping me out. If you're reading this still, shout out to you for reading.
This is why I do music.
