Unfortunately, I can’t tag Gram... she’s in her 90’s and is too busy reading romance novels to scroll Instagram’s endless feed, but who can blame her? This little shoot happened last Mother’s Day when it dawned on me that we didn’t really have an current photos of us all together as a family, which is crazy especially considering my line of work. But as life often does... people move, jobs get busy, you’re not quite “camera ready”, etc... whatever it is I’d implore you to take five, ten, twenty minutes and find a way to document wherever you’re at in life with the ones that mean the most. Everyone knows the idiom “the devil is in the details” and this certainly rings true for your wedding day too. It’s hard to imagine a better looking pair of palms 🌴🏄🏼‍♂️ If you ever find yourself on Oahu, don’t just stick to the touristy areas of Waikiki and Honolulu... you’ll miss so much of the islands best qualities. My recommendation is to rent a car from the airport and take the H2 north through the central valley towards Haleiwa. From there, take your time driving along Kamehameha Hwy stopping at all the ridiculously beautiful beaches along the North Shore. If it’s summer, jump the rock at Wiamea. There are lots of cute Airbnb’s sprinkled on the route as you head east down the windward coast towards Kailua, Makapu’u and Diamond head. When considering wedding venues, don’t overlook the importance of where you’ll be getting ready. If the space is lacking windows, natural light, open space and intrinsic beauty, I’d recommend exercising caution. So much of your story will be told in this room/place... the dress, the hair and makeup, the gifts, the champagne, the bridal portrait, candids with your bridesmaids/groomsmen, the details... the list goes on and on. If you want beautiful photos of these things, don’t settle for the all too common “wherever the church puts us,” which often ends up being a dark basement with fluorescent lighting. There’s always another choice and I’d be happy to help you find it. Make these moments special.
