reader comforts luffy after he has a nightmare of ace. Tall gn reader x luffy
I totally didn't make this for myself
The Thousand Sunny was usually a canvas of soundâFrankyâs hammering, Zoroâs soft snores, Nami counting beli, or Luffyâs relentless calls for meat. But in the deep watches of the night, only the gentle slosh of the sea against the hull and the rhythmic thump-thump of the engine broke the silence.
You lay awake, not due to noise, but due to awareness. Even in sleep, your body felt the presence of the person curled securely against your side. Luffy rarely slept still, his rubber limbs usually wound around you like a particularly affectionate boa constrictor, but tonight, his hold was too tight, too desperate.
The first sound was a choked gasp, quickly buried in the pillow.
You blinked, the shift in atmosphere instantly jarring you from rest. Luffyâs breathing hitched, moving from the steady rhythm of deep sleep to sharp, shallow pants. His muscles, which were usually soft and pliant like cured leather, were taut beneath your arm.
"Luffy?" you murmured, your voice a low rumble in the darkness.
He didn't respond with his usual sleepy mumble. Instead, a guttural soundâhalf sob, half cry of pure distressâescaped his lips. His head thrashed violently against the pillow.
You knew this sound. You had learned to recognize the specific terror that haunted his sleep, the one nightmare that always brought him back to that one, terrible day in Marineford.
"Ace," he whimpered, the name torn from his throat like rough cloth. "No, Ace, don't go!"
His body suddenly went rigid, his rubber ability stretching him slightly as he tried to reach for something that wasnât there. He was fighting, lost in the chaotic memory.
You reacted instantly, your large frame shifting until you were kneeling slightly over him. You didnât shake him. Waking him too abruptly from this nightmare sometimes led to irrational panic. Instead, you caged him gently between your arms, your massive hands settling firmly on either side of his face.
"Luffy. Look at me. Wake up, Captain." Your voice was soothing but firm, a low command meant to anchor him to the present.
His eyes snapped open, wide and glazed, reflecting the faint moonlight filtering through the porthole. For a split second, he didn't recognize you. He saw the red light of the battlefield, the dust, the searing heat. He saw the fist.
Then, he saw your faceâclose, solid, and undeniably here. His fear didn't vanish, but it rerouted.
"(Your name)!" The relief in that shout cracked like a whip, and without hesitation, he launched himself forward.
You braced yourself, your arms immediately looping around his back. At your size, you were used to being the bedrock, and now, that stability was exactly what Luffy needed. He buried his face against your chest, clinging to you with a ferocity that threatened to bruise, though you knew better than to pull away.
"Shh. I got you," you whispered, your chin resting against the top of his messy hair. The contrast was palpable: your height and solid muscle offered a safe harbour to his trembling form. You felt his heart hammering against your ribs, a frantic little bird trapped in a cage.
You settled back against the headboard, repositioning him until he was fully cradled in your lap, his head tucked beneath your jaw. You were substantial, an immovable object, and the sheer weight of your presence seemed to start dissolving the terror.
"It was⊠the flame," he mumbled, his voice muffled by the cotton of your sleeping shirt. "Th-the smoke. And then⊠Ace was laughing, but the laugh was gone, and I couldn't reach him, I just kept stretching, but I couldn't reachâ" His voice broke into a wretched sob.
His fear wasn't about vulnerability. It was about failure. The agonizing memory of watching the most important person in his life slip away and feeling utterly powerless was the hole that never truly healed.
You held him tighter, running one of your hands slowly up and down his back, providing a steady heat that was meant to burn away the chill of the grave he had just visited in his mind.
"Itâs over now, Captain. Youâre here. Weâre on the Sunny," you reminded him softly. "Look around. We are safe. And youâre strong. Youâre the strongest person I know, Luffy. You survived it."
He clung to you, inhaling the familiar scent of sea salt and your own unique, comforting warmth. The rubber man who could shatter mountains was reduced to a small, whimpering boy in your arms, needing shelter from his own history.
"I don't wanna go back," he whispered, sounding younger than his years. The bond between you two wasn't built on dramatic gestures or grand declarations, it was built on moments like theseâunderstanding the deep-seated pain beneath the perpetually happy exterior, and being the only one allowed access to it.
"You won't have to," you assured him, tilting your head back to stare out at the darkened ceiling. "I'm not going anywhere. Iâm right here, holding you. You're stuck with me."
You kept rocking gently, a slow sway that mimicked the movement of the waves. You didn't push him to talk more. You just let him absorb your steadfastness. The minutes stretched into the peaceful night, and gradually, the chaotic trembling in his body began to subside. He was still pressed against you, but the desperation had softened into reliance.
He finally lifted his head, his dark eyes still slightly red-rimmed and watery, catching the soft light. "I saw him," he whispered. "I miss him, (Your name)."
"I know, Captain," you replied, your heart aching for the boy who had already lost so much. "I miss him too. But look at all the people he helped you find. Look at the crew you have now. He protected the future, and that future is you."
You smoothed the wild tangle of his hair back from his forehead, noting the damp sheen of sweat there.
"You don't have to carry that alone," you murmured, your gaze unwavering. "Never alone. I'm strong enough to hold all of it, Luffy. All your fears, all your sadness."
A small, shaky smile finally touched his lips, the kind that only appeared when his guard was completely down. He shifted comfortably, adjusting his weight so that he was lying fully against your chest, his ear resting near your steady heartbeat.
"Youâre really tall," he commented suddenly, the non-sequitur a sign that his mind was finally starting to return to his usual playful state. "Itâs good. I fit."
âItâs very good,â you agreed, suppressing a chuckle. "Plenty of room here for you to hide."
You watched him relax, the tension draining out of his limbs as the security of your embrace washed over him. He was heavy, warm, and deeply loved.
When his eyes began to flutter shut again, you leaned down, lifting your hand one last time to brush the hair away from his brow. You paused, memorizing the soft vulnerability of his expressionâa sight few outside this cabin would ever witness.
Leaning in, you pressed your lips softly against his forehead. The kiss was gentle, lingeringâa silent promise of protection, devotion, and unending safety.
"Sleep well, my Captain," you breathed against his skin.
Luffy sighed, burrowing deeper into the protective warmth of your enormous frame. His arm flopped over your waist, the grip now loose and contented. He was back in the Sunny, in the present, safe in the harbour of your embrace. And as you held the future King of the Pirates, you knew you wouldnât be sleeping again tonight, but you wouldnât trade that simple, sacred duty for anything in the world. You simply closed your eyes and held on, an unwavering sentinel against the darkness.
