❝ it was pretty fun, wasn’t it ? ❞ Though the Queen knows that there was a chance the frozen wasteland, it was a bit of a bummer that it had – not because the world was saved, THAT part is more than fine by her ; however, it’s the company that the towering woman made during those weeks, months, or what have you that made the whole situation way more tolerable than if she were alone.
All good things must come to an end at some point. What an awful shame, too. The Scorpion Queen had gotten used to the rowdy twins and their trouble-making ways. It’ll take some time for her to get used to the stillness of her old palace again.
She stretches as they stand on the roof of the apartment building, one that the trio had successfully taken refuge in so long ago, before turning to the golden twin, hands coming to rest behind her head.
❝ getting to hang out in an icy apocalypse was NOT on my bucket list, buuuut you two are pretty cool, i guess. ❞ Magenta-eyed Queen snickers at her own joke, a small sigh leaving her after. Golden hairpins, a pair that had rarely left her head since the beginning of their escapades, graze against her knuckles.
Hands reach up to remove the pins, hair limping slightly, before they are offered to Jin.
❝ before i go- here, you can have these. i’m sure whatever plan you got with ‘em will be awesome, like all your other ones. ❞ She tries to sound reassuring of this, but it’s evidenced that the accessories hold a deeper meaning than to be used as simple tools for trickery.
❝ and, hey, if all else fails, you can dump ‘em on your brother, right ? ❞
Fun. That all it ever was.
It was simple to say, after all, it was the plan truth ( was it ? ).
So why was he hesitating in leaving ? Yin had already gone ahead, taking initiative on their next schemes and plans. And that was how it was suppose to be — always had been. Him and Yin. The Gold and Silver Demons. They didn't mesh with others, hadn't in a long time, not since Monkey King and his companions took the lives of their family and their people all those centuries ago. Even their assistant was just that, the occasional assistant. An acquaintance, maybe, but it went little beyond professional outside the one drink or two.
( people liked them, sure, but nothing was ever to last. They were tricksters at heart, destined to make the lives of anyone who had the misfortune of meeting them worse. And that was fine, it was just who they were. )
By all means, he ought to be relieved to be rid of the Scorpion Queen; the unlikely companion they’d acquired throughout the apparent end of the world. Working together out of convenience of the circumstances ( because they'd taken pity on her ). Sure, it’d been fun, they’d gotten along better than he would've thought possible. But that was it. Nothing less, nothing more.
So he really, really couldn't get why he was still there, listening to SQ talk with an odd sense of finality. Why ? It wasn't like it was goodbye forever, they were both yaoguai, not mortals. They were bound to run into each other at some point in the next millennium, no ?
“ Aw, careful there, Queenie, ” he snickered instead of voicing those thoughts, tone playful as ever as he accepted the pins and twirled them around in his hands. Staring at the golden light reflecting off of them, “ Someone might start to think you care. ”
“ You know what ? ” Jin said suddenly before he could think twice about it, turning to face her as he held out one of the pins back towards her, “ You should keep one of 'em, so whenever you go off looking for the other, you'll know that you can’t find it because one of my pranks. ”
A prank, that's all it was ( it wasn’t ).
“ Well— ” he cut himself off, unsure what he was even about to say himself. Brushing the pause off with another laugh, he saluted lazily with two fingers and slipped out one of his smoke bombs from his pockets; tossing it onto the ground as he took his leave.
“ See you on the flipside, Scorpion Queen. ”
