PRAYING that barbie sweeps the oscars not because i have anything against oppenheimer but because one of the few joys in life is seeing film bros melt down when movies primarily made for women are lauded as serious and important works
I don’t know how to explain that segregating film tastes by gender is actively reinforcing sexism and gender roles (as well as the idea that men can’t find value in female-driven narratives!) and turning discussions on film into a girls versus boys thing is deeply dimwitted but here we are
just finished 2521 for the first time
(a year late, after starting it knowing it had a sad ending)
ok so overall my thoughts are
heedo and yurim CARRIED the early episodes for me. their dynamic is so good and i wish they dragged out them becoming friends a bit more. also this show could have been so amazing if they dated, like they genuinely had every single romantic trope? the writers were not thinking straight by not making them the main couple
i grew to like yijin and heedo a lot by the time yijin returned to seoul. im an absolute sucker for the separation trope (loved it for yurim and heedo as well when yurim went to russia) so them being separated and still being friends despite changes in their lives was really sweet. also makes the ending seem stupid lmfao
heedo and yurim hugging after the finals was the most satisfying moment of the show. i've done fencing a bit and i really enjoyed it but ended up having to quiet due to an...incident. so i was really invested in the fencing part of the show especially because of their dynamic. the two of them embracing and crying together was so beautiful. and i never watch sports dramas this is probably the first one i've ever watched
hated yurim and her boyfriend's relationship. like THEY'RE the ones to get married??? i respect them keeping childhood guy and girl friends completely platonic but he had more chemistry w her than yurim
yijin just leaving his family to go to new york was so stupid lmfao
the ending in general doesn't work for me. 1. i'm sad because i feel like yijin and heedo had a really special connection and the idea of one fight (that they fucking resolve!) being what made them unable to talk to each other for 7 years is so stupid. i think once yijin returned to korea they would have naturally ended up becoming friends again, just bc that's what makes me happy and i like to think they're tied together by some invisible string 2. their characters don't make sense towards the end of the show and don't really act the way they did the first 2/3, the idea of yijin not wanting heedo to share his pain feels so unrealistic to their characters
yijin becomes so passionate about reporting out of nowhere, i feel like it would have made more sense for him to go into law or something. i get he was passionate about being able to help heedo in the press so him wanting to be a reporter there made sense but once he transferred out of sports it didn't make sense for him to be there. it was clear he didn't care about simply reporting information like heedo's mom (also why him becoming a workaholic like her doesn't make sense), but that he cared about actually making a difference. him going into something like red cross or doing something with law and economics would make more sense for his desire to do good in the world and feel like he's helping others out.
on that topic, the comparisons between him and heedo's mom don't work. heedo's mom says she's focused on getting people to watch the news and to see what's going on. yijin is always more focused on making sure individual people are okay. again, him being a reporter does not work for his arc. him becoming a workaholic doesn't make sense. him doing those long shifts for local news was to help the network, not actual people. so the plot just didn't work for me
i'm okay with heedo retiring, and her last interview being with yijin WOULD be symbolic if they met because he was a reporter. but they met because they were two normal people, helping each other through normal everyday life, so it doesn't really work. i feel like once yijin became a reporter the show just switched so drastically. i didn't mind it at first but it doesn't make sense for what they had established in the beginning
seungwan not working in schools is DUMB like she would become a principal. c'mon. her becoming a variety show worker makes absolutely zero sense
yes the beach episode is THAT iconic and all their outfits are some of the best pieces of costuming i've seen in a while
in general heedo's outfits>>>>>
heedo's actress too>>>>> like goddamn she was good. heedo as a character means a lot to me as i'm very similar to her and there were a lot of scenes that have played out nearly exactly in my own life so i appreciated the commitment to the role and how much energy her actress gave
the english actor who played the ref who awarded heedo the point was quite literally the WORST actor i've ever seen. worse than disney channel kids
overall 8/10, i really enjoyed it but the show fell apart lmfao. still an emotional rollercoaster even if it's contrived to be that way
"you took the time to memorize me my fears my hopes my dreams i just like HANGING OUT WITH YOU ALL THE TIME!!!! all those times that you didn't leave it's been occurring to me i'd like to hang out with you for my whole life" is so baekdo and then you remember how the show ends and you wanna die
Just finished 2521 (kdrama)
IT WAS SOOO FRICKING GOOD!!!!
It made me happy sad mad and a lot of things yk it was a rollercoaster but I don’t regret watching it at all and it deserves the attention! The ending though… WHY WAS IT SO SAD LIKE SERIOUSLY
Anyways I just loved how they were always there for each other (na hee do and back yi jin and also the whole friend group) and how they made each other feel good in every way possible also I love ko yu rim and ji woong smmm underrated couple
If u haven’t watched it yet then what are you waiting for???
Here’s a few pics to make me feel even more sad bcs I’ll be remembered of their good times☺️
''My diary from those days is filled with just love and friendship. A time when friendship and love were all that mattered in life. A time like that lasts only for a moment.''
- Na Hee Do (Twenty Five Twenty One)
I said in my previous post about 20th century girl that just because someone is not in your life anymore doesn’t mean the happy moments/memories and other amazing things they brought you have disappeared.
Well it’s the same lesson we can learn from 2521. Na Heedo and Baek Yijin were destined to meet each other because they needed each other’s support through difficult times on their road to achieve their dreams. After the relationship finished leading them to that point, then it was simply time to part.
Heartbreak may seem tragic at first but what’s after is more important. Sometimes things end up not in the way you dreamed in order to make place for other good things to come into your life later on. Life doesn’t end here, it always goes on!
Also the fact that their attempts to « save their relationship » actually lead them to break up later on shows they were simply not meant to be together in the long run. Baek Yijin transferred from the sport news department to the breaking news department to allow himself to have a romantic relationship with Na Heedo. However that breaking news department later sent him to NYC 9/11 which is where their relationship started to break. If he had stayed in the small sports department, he would not only have missed on the opportunity to later become a big time journalist, but he also wouldn’t have been able to continue dating Na Heedo anyways.
Him going to the news department then to NYC was meant to be because their relationship was not meant to be. We have to stop crying and aknowledge that he couldn’t choose love over his career and everything else he was working for. He later got to get his good financial/family situation back and that’s honestly such a good thing. He still got his happy ending and Na Heedo also got her happy ending, just not together.
these arms are all i have, but i’ll hold you like i do love you
CHOI SU YEON IS A GREAT FUCKING FRIEND FOR:
1) straight up asking youngwoo if she likes Junho too. No beating around the bush and dragging the love triangle (?) On.
2) A GREAT FUCKING FRIEND FOR TRYING TO GET YOUNGWOO TO HELP HER REALISE HER FEELINGS AND GIVE ADVICE DESPITE LIKING JUNHO HERSELF. Like when she says "that's how you asked him? Love is not an interrogation"
3) FOR SAYING IT'S NOT HARD TO LOVE YOUNGWOO. I LOVE HOW SHE GENUINELY GETS UPSET (always) WHENEVER SOMEONE OR YOUNGOO HERSELF UNDERESTIMATES HER. Aka when she stormed off after the scene.
4) FOR ASKING JUNHO UP STRAIGHT WHETHER HE LIKES YOUNGWOO AND NOT HER BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN SEEING THE SIGNS. I love how she doesn't fucking self-inserts and asks him about his feelings for Youngwoo instead of herself and doesn't push Suyeon-Junho agenda.
5) FOR STANDING UP FOR YOUNGWOO AND SAYING DON'T BREAK YOUNGOO'S HEART TO JUNHO. LIKE. 👏👏👏 QUEEN SHIT. I REALLY REPLAYED THAT PART. I FUCKING LOVE HER MAN.
6) for standing up for Youngwoo when that bitch ass attorney minwoo was talking about nepotism. I love how the preview shows she still stands up for Youngwoo BECAUSE SHE KNOWS YOUNGWOO IS SMART AND DESERVED THE POSITION AND HER HAVING TO TRY HARD FOR SIX MONTHS SHOULDN'T ACTUALLY BE A THING.
God, I FUCKING LOVE CHOI SUYEON. SPRING SUNSHINE INDEED. I'M SO FUCKING GLAD THE SECOND FEMALE LEAD ISN'T A TOXIC, JEALOUS, COMPETITIVE BITCH BUT AN AMAZINGLY WRITTEN CHARACTER AND A GREAT FUCKING FRIEND.
In this household we LOVE AND APPRECIATE CHOI SUYEON.
extraordinary attorney woo showing us two very different types of female friendships with long lasting loyal friend geu ra mi who knows everything about young woo bc they grew up together and grudging teammate choi su yeon who doesn’t always understand young woo but is always trying her hardest to learn more about her is so wonderful. i love how different the two friendships are and beautifully woo young woo’s affection for both women is portrayed.
"I have something to say. I like you. I like you so much that it feels like I'm sick inside."
this man is so sick for saying this. like he says such things while looking so sincere and we know he actually means it. this is it. this fictional man is the standard. pack it up kdrama male leads.
#RIP Jane Austen you would have loved Lee Jun Ho.
Loving me is hard. Yes. It appears so. But are you still going to? Yes.
