Having this poem be written on an envelope really relates to the surprise that Emily Dickinson seems to be referring to in this poem. It is like she is saying that even just having the idea of this poem is surprising enough to not be able to reach for a notebook. I like to think that these are the little surprises that spice up life that Dickinson is referring to in this poem.
One of the most interesting details of this image is the skeleton fighting liberty wearing a humanoid mask. As freedom is protecting a rock that says religion, death is wearing a cape that says “Radical Reform”. It took me a little while to notice, but the most important detail in this image to me is the army that death has behind him & the words that are on their flags, “Slavery”, “Robbery”, “Murder”, “Starvation” are all things that threaten our freedom as a society. The only army that Freedom has is a lion with the tag Loyalty. While Freedom only has Loyalty on her side, is it a lion against very thin and seemingly emaciated army. This image shows the reader that both of these sides are based off of choices people make, people can choose to be death or they can choose to be freedom. Both armies are labeled with choices that people had to make in order to be on that side of the fight. It also shows Freedoms only weapon being a sword labeled “The Laws”, the only thing about this sword is that it does not seem to be of great use to her. It is bending and tapers off at the end, to me this represents the fact that the law cannot be freedoms only defense. It appears that Loyalty will be Freedoms best defense. This image does not show the outcome of this fight, there are no winners or losers, making this decision up to the viewer. I also find it interesting how the image does not show us the battle between Loyalty and deaths army. I think I almost prefer the unknowns in this image, it creates an opportunity for the viewers to form their own guesses as to who will win this fight. For me, this image means the fight will never be over. No matter how far we think we’ve strayed from anything that threatens our freedom, the reality is we will never be free form this fight. It also means people have a choice as to what side they wish to fight on, they can choose to be death and fight freedom, or they can be freedom and fight death. It is all up to us what our future will look like.
“England in 1819” is similar to “Death or liberty” because it represents the fight between good and bad. This poem discusses the struggles of living in England in 1819, what it was like to live under a kings rule and what little power these people had. “A people starved and stabbed in the infilled field-“. This line shows that these people had to fight in order to survive because they had very little to no rights. In terms of the picture, they would be liberty and the rulers would be death, reeking havoc on these innocent people simply because they could. Much like the photo, laws did not help these people either, they had to fight for their freedom.

My tool was N+7. I thought this tool was a very interesting idea, but it did have some limitations. First being the fact that it only changed the nouns throughout the text, everything else stays the same throughout. One more limitation would be the fact that this tool does not give any information about the noun that has replaced the previous, I had to look up each new noun that was put in the text. I do not think that it conveys a bias with regulates to analysis because it is completely randomized, it revolves around what text I put in, and what nouns are presented in that text. The only bias that I could see being present is the fact that this tool only changes the nouns, nothing else. I do not think that this tool has an ideology considering it does not produce anything on its own, it must be given a text to work with.
I used the poem “Anecdote of the Jar” written by Wallace Stevens. I used this poem because it was one of the shorter poems and I wanted to fit as many examples in this screenshot as possible. N+0 has no changes, and each one after has all the nouns replaced with the 1-15 noun following the original. This website did exactly what I thought it would do, but seeing it presented in front of me makes it so much better. I really enjoy how each version of this poem is so different by simply switching the nouns to the next ones over. I like how each version looks the same, it is not until you look deeper into them that you realize there is any sort of difference. As for my hopes, reading each version I had to look up a few words and definitely learned new vocabulary that I would not have known without it.

The N+7 Machine works by taking the text you have put in the type box, and replacing every noun in the text with the 7th one after it in the dictionary. This idea also works with N+1 (replacing every noun with the first one after) and the N+15 (replacing using the 15th noun after). You may submit your own text, or use a pre-generated text. My hopes for this will be to expand my vocabulary and hopefully learn some new words that I have not heard of so far.

This jar may appear to hold random nicnaks, but when you look closer you see some of the most important items to Hannah. From her grandmothers matches to a vintage pin, this jar is filled with memories from not only Hannah, but many others as well.
For my last item I will be putting a mask in my jar. I saw others do this and I think it is a really great end to this experiment. Compared to everything else in this jar, this mask perfectly describes life as it is right now. It seems a bit sad to end on this note but whenever life goes back to normal (or at least some-what) I’ll be able to look back at everything I put in this jar and recognize that each item represents a huge part of my life.
The eighth item that I will be putting in my jar is this ziptie that I had to wear connected to a friend at a party my freshman year of college. This was one of my first ever college parties and all I remember was how nervous I felt to simply be in college. Seeing how much time has past and how many things have changed since this ziptie was cutting off my circulation is really crazy. Being a junior now I see how much I have changed and silly it seems that I was ever nervous to be in college when now I am nervous to leave.
The seventh thing that I will be putting in my jar is this mini nail polish that a friend left in my room a few weeks ago (yes it is the color I am wearing now, she doesn’t need all of it). The day that she left it here was one of the best days that I have had in awhile so I think it’s really important to put in my jar. Nothing happened with the nail polish itself but everything surrounding that day makes me smile. Even though it was just us two, it felt like the first normal day since last March. It seems like looking back on recent memories bring me more pain than happiness so having this little reminder really makes me smile.
The sixth item in my jar is this mini perfume that is my absolute favorite scent. I got it as a gift from my sister and since then I have worn it to any big celebration, from high school graduation to this past Christmas. Every time I smell it it brings me back to some of the best memories I have. I get sad as I see it getting lower and lower, not because I will never smell this scent again, but because I don’t really want to give up this particular bottle. The small chips and scratches reminds me of dropping it while getting ready for my senior prom, and again at my sisters college graduation, and once again packing to leave my door for “an extra week of spring break”. Once this bottle is empty I know I’ll have to keep it because I cannot simply throw away those memories and the physical mark they left.
The fifth item in my jar is this earring that I lost the pair to last year at a party. I kept this earring hoping that one day the other might appear out of no where, now I keep it to remind myself of what life once looked like. Whenever I look at it I remember that night & all of the joy that came with it, it also helps me remember that one day life will be like that again. Honestly, I was never a huge fan of these earrings & that it why I would wear them out, now I look at this earring more than my favorite pair.
The fourth item in my jar is this mni hand sanitizer that I was given in a care package a couple of years ago. I recently found it at the bottom of my book bag & i just thought it was really funny given the current circumstances. When i first got it, I probably found it really weird that I was being given hand sanitizer in a care package, now I carry it with me everywhere in case I accidentally touch a door handle. To me this hand sanitizer can represent how quickly that world can change. In the span of a few years hand sanitizer went from being a shitty gift in a care package to now being a necessity everywhere you go.
The third item in my jar is this safety pin that once belonged on a dress that was much too big for me, after gaining a lot of healthy weight over the past year the dress now fits me without this safety pin. It may seem like really small thing but this safety pin represents a lot to me. I have always struggled with gaining weight so the fact that I no longer need this pin to fit into my clothes is something I am really proud of. I was always embarrassed that I needed pins to hold my clothes up, it made me feel like a child while everyone else was able to fill in their clothes. On a bit of a lighter note I also like to use safety pins to pop any pimples I have, so this little pin is actually quite important to me.
I am not sure why but I think my posts may have been posting privately so I apologize for the spam of me reposting them now. My second item in my jar is a button that fell off my absolute favorite sweater. I always kept this button in hopes that I would learn how to restitch it on, but to no avail. This happened a few months ago so I am not sure why I still have it, but I can’t bring myself to throw it away & accept that my sweater now only has 2 buttons instead of 3. I choose this button because it may seem like such an unimportant piece of plastic but in reality it held together the design of that sweater.
