And I bet that just about the time someone says, 'oh, it's been such a quiet day,' is the exact time that things get hectic, right? I feel like that's how it goes at the bar, too. And do you actually end up being really helpful, or is that just your way of sweet talking her? I can't ever see you being too talkative, Jamie!
Once that happens just know that everything turns completely upside down and we forget what we are doing. It’s a total nutcase. But in the best of ways! I try to be as helpful as I can! It’s just sort of my thing where I talk a lot and I try to help people, you know me. It’s also a nurse thing, I suppose?
Very true, you just never know what the summer months are going to do. I keep hoping they're decent, maybe some hot stretches in the middle, but not the kind of summer where it hits 90 in June and stays that way clear into September, that's too intense for me. Gimme some good 70s and 80s and partial sunshine so you don't completely fry yourself.
Hopefully it’ll go by smoothly. We’ve got great beach weather, though. So I’ve been looking forward to getting some of that time in and indulging a bit. Yes! Sunshine with clear skies but then some nice breeze to go along with it. Maybe a few clouds for cover later in the day.
I would imagine it does, in the hospital! There probably aren't very many days that aren't... you know, a little bit on the chaotic side, right? It's a good thing that we both know how to be dramatic, then. In a good way, of course! I'm sure that whether or not you're allowed to be in the kitchen fully depends on how helpful -- or not helpful -- you're being at the moment, too.
Everyone is typically shocked when we have a quiet day! Because you just never really know. Oh, absolutely. Dramatic in the best way. Well, usually if I promise I will be really helpful she'll let me stay! Not that she needs much of my help anyway, I apparently just ask too many questions.
Darcy smiled as she walked off stage before she looked over at the guy for a brief moment smiling. She had worked hard on the routine and she was her own worst critic but that performance was the best she had given in a long time. She smiled, "Why thank you. I appreciate that." She smiled looking at him and nodded, 'I am glad she loves my classes, I try to make them fun for everyone as well as teach them what they need to know." She smiled, "Her class is performing later soI bet you're excited to see her shine." She smiled before she looked over at him and nodded, "It's been such a long time since I have had the feeling of being on the stage. I thought I was going to hate it, especially as my parents were there front and centre like they used to be for my shows as a kid but it was honestly the most thrilling feeling I have had in a while. I don't think you could forget it as soon you get up there, I think you would be so good up there with your guitar. Do you write your own songs? Maybe one day we could do a duet together if you are down for doing a cover?"
"You're welcome," Jamie nodded. "Keeps everyone busy and on their toes," he chuckled. "Yeah! We're excited for that. She's off with her mom somewhere. Then we're all going to come by and watch," he smiled. "It's pretty thrilling isn't it?" he said. "Something that sticks with you forever, really. I remember when my sister talked me into getting on stage in school for a play and my teacher asking me why I didn't join sooner," he chuckled. "I haven't written my own songs, no," he shook his head. At the suggestion of playing guitar on stage, he hummed for a moment. "I think that could be a fun idea,"
That's true, have to get through the rest of spring, and then summer will be here. Although you never know, it could be a rainy, stormy summer, I'm just hoping that's not the case. Quite a bit, yeah. Once school lets out here in a couple of weeks, we'll have even more.
And then it's Merrock, we could be in summer and it could be surprising. I kind of love it in a way, it's unpredictable. But I feel like I know how to be more prepared now. Gotta love those summer months too, right?
We thrive in chaos, as much as we like to pretend that we like calm and quiet. It gets too calm and quiet and what do we do as human beings? Try to make drama! A never ending cycle, I feel like. Of course, that's how it should be with a mother, the smile and nod and move on. Oh, that's good! You're definitely getting some brownie points if you're doing the work in the kitchen.
That describes my job perfectly actually. Ha! Yes, if drama doesn't come to us, we figure out a way to bring drama out there. Then yep, it goes around again and we have to figure it all out... again. I think that's her love language, being in the kitchen, keeping me out of the kitchen, letting me stay in the kitchen with her.
"Did you just get off work?" JJ asked, knowing that the other often worked the late shift. "I was just running some errands around the area, and I thought I'd pop in to grab myself a vanilla bean latte. Life's been very different since I stopped coming here multiple times a day." He chuckled, shaking his head at the thought of how often he used to run on fumes when he was working at the hospital. JJ would not have admitted it at the time. But he had been a workaholic. Thankfully, that had all changed once Mia came into his life. After her adoption was finalized, leaving his position to work at the Medical Complex seemed like the right thing to do. Being able to decide his working hours had made it easier to manage being a single father. The downside of quitting his old job was not being able to see Jamie and the rest of his colleagues at the hospital daily. "How are you doing, Jamie? How's everything at the hospital?"
Jamie looked down at his scrubs and nodded. "I did, actually," he chuckled. "A vanilla latte is always a classic, can't complain about that," he said. "I... yeah, needed to stop and get some coffee before I start running around and grabbing groceries then going home for a long nap before my shift tonight," he said. "Things are good. Work's good, I've just signed off on a new batch of students who are doing their clinicals for the year. So that's exciting. My supervisor wants me to get my nurse practitioner license so that I can get a promotion since the position is open now. I've still been debating it."

"That was pretty awesome," Jamie said as he passed by her after the performance. The kids seemed to have a good time. "My niece loves your classes, by the way. It's like... all she talks about whenever I ask her how life is going," he chuckled. He was glad that the dance classes were a big part of the kids' lives and they'd had a lot of fun with it. "How's it feel getting back up on stage, though? Every time I have to whip out my guitar and do just one song, I feel like I'll just forget everything I had been practicing."
We shouldn't have to worry about snow and ice now until... October? November? Hopefully, anyway -- I don't want to jinx it and end up finding ourselves in a freak snow storm in a few days. But I'm glad! This is the best time of year to do that, everyone marks everything down to move out old supplies.
Fingers crossed! I’ll try not to jinx it haha. We’ve still got some time before the cold and wet weather hits again. We’ve got to enjoy the summer until then! You’ve got the springtime hikers going your way now, don’t you?
True, sometimes the excitement is... well, not the good kind of excitement, and I don't think we want to deal with that. Right! I don't think there's anything wrong with not wanting yucky dirt under my nails, it's okay to want to be clean. Aw, see, that's the way to do it. You just have to find the best ways to earn brownie points so she loves you a little more.
Exactly! But it’s funny how that works out, huh? I think as humans we want to be clean, have very little chaos…. But we find ourself exactly with that! Lots of chaos because we’re just busy adults. I do my best to make them all look good. I think at this point she just smiles and agrees. But I’ve been cooking more lately. So that sort of helps!

Back when JJ worked at the hospital, he would stop by Cobblestone Cafe multiple times a day to get his caffeine fix. It was the only way he was ever able to make it through the gruelling double shifts. Needless to say, since starting his new job at the Medical Complex, he has significantly reduced his caffeine consumption. He was only working forty hours a week and no longer needed to be on call. With Mia being sleep-trained, he was also sleeping through the night. His daily vanilla bean lattes were no longer a necessity. But every now and then, JJ would pop into the familiar establishment and get himself a steaming cup of his beverage of choice. Today was one of those days.
JJ had placed his order before stepping back from the counter and waiting for his drink to be prepared when he heard the door open. Jamie's familiar voice reached his ears, causing him to turn around. "Hey, Jamie!" He greeted his friend, grinning as he waved.
Jamie's late shifts usually meant he was in a hurry to go home. Sometimes he'd stop to grab breakfast, or sometimes he'd swing by his mom's house and she'd either be cooking or she'd already have something prepared. It was an arrangement that worked rather well. Today, he decided to stop over at Cobblestone. He did have a couple of errands to run before going home, so a pick-me-up was very much needed.
His head turned when he heard his name being called. He smiled over at his friend. "Hey, what's up, doc?" Jamie said. JJ had been his former coworker for some time and they had worked in the same department. So now they mostly saw each other outside of work.
Looking up and breathing a sigh of relief, Brad smiled but still shook his head. "I swear he's friendly but a menace," Brad eyed his dog and crouched down beside him, slipping a few fingers under the dog's collar. "You dont happen to have any sausage or bacon on you that he smells?" He joked before gently leading the dog off of Jamie, "other than my dog basically jumping you, how are you?"
“It’s all good. My sister has a dog, and he’s the bounciest thing ever,” Jamie laughed. “I do love dogs, though. They’re pretty special,” he smiled. “Ahh, no. But I did just come from my mom’s place and she cooked a whole thing for lunch, so I probably still smell like lunch,” he said. He ran a hand through his hair. “I’m good, enjoying my day off, just enjoying being outside. You?”
Thankfully the snowy season is over and no injuries there. I did buy some extra snow gear because it was on sale. So I’ll be ready for next winter!
You’re welcome. Me too! It’s like a whole big deal. Keeps things exciting. Hey, that’s all part of the fun. Gotta love it, and did you ever grow out of it or do you still like getting your hands dirty? Most of the other plants I take care of are my mom’s, she always sends me pictures of them. I’m starting to think we’re being replaced as her favorite kids, haha. Ferns are pretty easy going right!
And honestly, life needs a little bit of excitement now and then, otherwise... what do we really have, you know? I try to keep myself from getting too dirty these days, I just do the basics of gardening and call it a day. Although dirt does come off with a lot of good scrubbing, so there's that! She likes plants better than you? Poor Jamie... I bet that she actually loves you all equally!
Who doesn’t love the extra excitement? Well, I guess that would depend on exactly what it is, right? Sounds easy-going enough! You wanna keep things looking pretty while looking pretty! A good scrubbing and a toss in the washer. Sometimes! Haha. But then I help bring in the groceries for her and then she feeds me.

As soon as the temperature crept up to a comfortable level, Sadie had been wanting to outside to the playground to play with her friends. So of course Brad would give in, the weather and sun would do him some good anyway. Bringing Wallay along leaving Sailor at home, Brad and Sadie headed to the park, finding a nice shady spot under a big tree. Just as he was getting settled in, opening the book he was currently reading, Wally decided to insert himself into the conversation of the person sitting next to them. "Dude," Bradley gasped, "where the heck are your manners?" He asked the golden retriever, and getting up to pull the dog away a bit. "I am so sorry for him. He really loves all people."
Jamie didn't have a dog, but he always had wanted one. That just meant he had to live vicariously through his friends and enjoy that through them. Still, he loved what a pet-friendly town Merrock was. He just about knew almost every dog around there because he wandered around so much. Today was a day off for him and he brought his niece and nephew to the park after school, ready to provide snacks and homework help after they got their energy out. He took a seat. "Hey, buddy," he gave a laugh. "
"I just take one, thanks. Honestly, I'm almost done with this area." Jaz took the bag from Jamie. "What have you been getting into? I've kinda been in my own world over here."
“Sounds good,” Jamie said, giving her a thumbs up. “Not too much, I’ve just been going along with everyone else,” he said, looking around. “Helping out where I can. Oh, I planted a cute little flower bed in that corner over there.”
