Damn. This whole movie is kind of about Celine's choices.

Like. You ever think some part of her envies the people who give in and let Gwi-Ma take them. That she ever got so, so tired carrying all that shame about what happened to Miyeong. She has to believe that demon tricked her into falling in love. She absolutely cannot for one second imagine a demon capable of anything other than malice or her whole world falls apart, and there will be nothing left. She already killed her best friend, however accidentally. If the blow wasn't justified when it began, what does she even have?

The way she seems to be talking to herself when she's unraveling in front of Rumi under the tree. "Our faults and fears must never be seen." She doesn't say it in the stiff way the girls imitated earlier. She says it like it's the only thing she can hold on to and it's slipping through her fingers in real time. It's all about the honmoon. The greater good. And through the storm of grief and shame and anger in Rumi, she looks at Celine and accurately identifies what's trapped them both in this cycle as surely as the demons have been trapped.

Glad to see it destroyed indeed. It can't go on like this. I fully believe that watching Celine pace her own cell in front of her and comprehending what she's seeing for the first time is a huge part of what made Rumi rally and face Gwi-Ma alone, determined to create a new honmoon and rewrite the rules instead of giving in. Celine couldn't kill her despite everything Rumi knew about her, every principle she held, and she watched Celine begin to unravel and understood something very old and very powerful.

It's probably good in the long run that Jinu is out of her reach when Rumi tells her about him, because that conversation will rip some old wounds wide open. I don't know if Celine could've found her way forward in a world where Miyeong was right to trust a demon and Celine was wrong, not without something greater to live for - Rumi, yes, but also the overseeing of the next generation of defenders. But maybe with Rumi's help, she can break out of the same cycle the demons were stuck in.

Celine may not have become a demon, but she's every inch a prisoner to her past and her choices in the same way. It's just that she is also her own jailor and warden in the name of a greater good. And if that greater good is what's at the heart of what broke the woman who raised Rumi and warped the love she had for her into someone who would tell her to hide who she is and fully believe it necessary and kind to do so, how good could it really be?

The first honmoon was not wrong or bad. But it was created for a world that doesn't exist anymore. The things that made it a protective force before are making it harmful now. It's time to write a new story.
