it  was  never  a  boring  day  when  jocelyn  was  around--perhaps  that  was  why  the  mayor  enjoyed  her  so  much.  as  he  sat  at  his  desk,  leaned  back  in  a  very  relaxed  position,  a  smile  was  tugging  at  the  corners  of  his  mouth.  "i'll  never  envy  doing  the  drop  off,"  he  shook  his  head  as  he  spoke,  memories  of  the  few  times  he  had  done  it  enough  to  put  him  off  of  the  act  forever.  that  was  his  wife's  role  (  and  she  did  it  so  much  better  ).  "are  you  trying  to  put  my  assistant  out  of  a  job?"  he  mused,  a  single  brow  quirking  as  he  stood.  "--and  it's  delicious  pumpkin  spiced  shit,"  he  corrected,  tone  serious  but  playfulness  appearing  on  his  face  as  he  moved  to  take  his  morning  drink.  set  on  not  burning  his  tongue  to  a  crisp,  the  mayor  blew  into  the  opening  impatiently  before  a  soft  sigh  left  him.  "truthfully?  the  fall  fair  has  me  worried."  it  was  such  a  fun  time  for  the  whole  town,  but  now  with  so  much  tragedy,  victor  could  only  hope  that  whoever  was  responsible  for  the  deaths  would  leave  the  wholesome  event  alone.

jocelyn was a hard hitter, mostly put together when she was on form but the school drop off did throw her off slightly. it was the type of chaos she hated - busy chaos that she wanted to avoid completely. thankfully, she'd got through it today without having a breakdown on the way into work. "assistant, what's that?" the woman was quick to retort, raising her eyebrows at him. it hadn't even been in the new budget and she couldn't see it coming any time soon. "you really shouldn't make your assistant get you a coffee. should get it yourself. this was my kind gesture of the say, so, you're welcome." there hadn't been a thank you but she believed that one should have been delivered quickly. "yeah, that-" plonking her bag down, she squeezed her eyes shut. "why are we doing it if we're both worried, again? i get town morale and blah blah blah but i really don't think it's a good idea. on another note, if one of the kids forces me to go on a ride, i'm going to need a week off as sick." jocelyn hated fairs, she'd never liked them - they creeped her out (without town deaths) and she despised rides. "i'm a risk taker, you know this, just not that type of risk."

" i feel as though the novelty of the ' annual fall fair ' wears off pretty fast. forty something years of the same rides , the same games and the same overprized cavity - inducing treats. " winter picks at a the pink cone of cotton candy she holds , her gaze unfocused. " maybe avoid the rides this year , and every year in the future. who knows when the last time they did maintenance. "

"you know i'm not going on any of those rides." she wasnt but her family were, however, any contest would end up in a fight. "i've never really been a fan of the whole set up, if i'm being honest. it's too out in the open yet too small at the same time." if anything went wrong, there wasn't enough room for everyone to sprint successfully. "god, i shouldn't let them-" it wasn't about her permissions - she was tired, her wife was tired, just wanting to take the children around the fair to have an enjoyable time but jocelyn felt the set up was too sinister.

despite attempting to pass off her duties to the mayor, the deputy mayor had a gaunt look to her indicating she was more tired than usual. tragedies in town did something to the psyche, to her psyche, whether she wanted to admit it or not. her family had wanted to come along to get some enjoyment out of it and yet jocelyn just couldn't join in. "this is a death trap, no?" she gestured towards the rides and various other attractions. "seems like a perfect place to hide and we're just allowing it. morality is important but if you ask me, i will not get on any of those rides." jocelyn allen was scared of them, something she'd never admit but her wife knew she that was why she'd taken the children. "you alright?" she put her hands in her pockets and sighed.

nothing that ever happened in cloyne was meant to be like this. jocelyn was someone that would complain that she was bored but it didn't mean this. they'd gone there as a family unit but jocelyn always refused to get on rides - being an adrenaline seeker, people would have put her down for someone to enjoy it but it wasn't at all the case. the carnival games didn't sit right with her either, only made her feel uneasy considering the recent sinister happenings. she didn't like it. iron could crack, that's what people didn't realise. "it can't just be me that fucking hates this." with her arms crossed, the woman looked over to amara. she was no different in her nature but definitely more fatigued. @sipsofsecrets

eugenia typically wasn’t the prying type. her mother considered it unbecoming, discouraging the behavior whenever she could with whatever energy she could muster. on the off chance that the urge overwhelmed her, she was always caught pale faced and red handed. yet, after a hot september night at the station, surrounded by pigs in suits and her eyes blinded by interrogation lights, she stayed awake thinking about how many people in this podunk town thought she was capable of murder. anxious thoughts bounced off of every corner in her mind, full of half-baked conspiracies about how far up this goes. as she stood only feet away from the city official, she recalled stories of the innocent put on trial for crimes they were miles away from. the hair stood up on her arms, on the back of her neck, so entranced in thought she didn’t realize how long she had been staring at the very woman she had come here to plead her innocence to. how she would do that, exactly? she hadn’t thought that far, and she wouldn’t have the chance to, after the woman’s exclamation shook her out of her trance. “my lips are sealed,” she managed to eke out, the corners of her lips pulled into a soft (yet noticeably uncomfortable) smile. “i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to scare you.”

jocelyn couldn't explain why she'd automatically marked the other as possibly guilty of such atrocities. perhaps whispers manifested in a different way in her mind; an undetermined glance, an expression taken in the wrong way - it would all go against a eugenia o'neil when it wasn't supposed to be so. jocelyn allen, deputy mayor should have known better, jocelyn should haven known better but it was so difficult to fight her judgemental nature. whilst it had served her well in some situations, it hindered her in far more. thumb flicking the lighter but not hard enough, her brow furrowed. "fuck." there was some sort of urgency or perhaps it was just because she felt under pressure with the other watching her. flick, flick, fli- she'd lit it and a quick sigh of relief followed. there was no question that she was a highly strung individual, didn't have the best people skills on the planet and the shaking of her hand as she brought the cigarette up to her lips for a second time wasn't doing her any favours. "sorry." the official wasn't handling it away, mostly trying to shy away because of what was going on and her emotional response to it. "you're alright. you'll understand why i'm a little cautious, right now." stay away from 'on edge'.

jocelyn wasn't able to answer how she felt so stressed when she was now pushing all her responsibilities onto the mayor himself because she wanted her name to be on it as little as possible. standing outside of an establishment towards the side, the deputy mayor fished out a packet of cigarettes and lifted one up to her month - then it would take her a couple more moments finding it in her bag. her eyes darted up and caught sight of the other and she did her best not to shudder. was the other watching her? there were whispers going around about eugenia o'neils morbid curiosities, or perhaps jocelyn's brain had come to that determination by itself. now in the other's presence, she felt even more urgency to locate the lighter. "ah!" she pursed her lips together as she pulled it out, finally acknowledging the other as she'd tried so desperately not to look at her. "don't tell my wife."

"sorry i'm late." jocelyn's voice had a tendency to boom through a room to announce her presence. "school drop off, an absolute fucking nightmare." perhaps that was a little insensitive considering the recent happenings but the woman wasn't exactly the most sensitive soul on earth. "but-" she snapped her fingers and pointed to two, slightly spilled over the top, coffees. "- i got you that pumpkin spiced shit you really like for a reason that i'll never comprehend." anything more milky or sweet than her flat white would make her feel ill for the rest of the day. "so, how you holding up, partner?" she hated being his subordinate - it was something she couldn't accept until things started going wrong.

The man was covered in all sorts of dirt and oil but that wasn't exactly anything unusual for him after a long day at work. A dirty rag in one hand as he attempted to wipe off some of the mess on his hands before pulling out a cigarette from the packet in his jeans. "Need something?" He asked with a smile on his lips as he came to a stop in front of them.

she'd run to go pick up her car, or at least make a known visit so it wouldn't take as long. things were dangerous at the moment and a method of transport would feel somewhat safer than opting for her trainers every time she had to do something. the woman blurted out a laugh before reeling herself in. "a fucking car that works would be nice but we can't always get what we want, can we?" crossing her arms, jocelyn stepped forward. "so, is it ready to go or what?"

kismet sits at a stool at a bar , a cigarette in one hand , a glass of whiskey in the other. "isn't the ghostface ip copyrighted? can they even pursue a case against a masked killer?" kismet may have failed law school but that didn't mean the interest died.

"what?" it was a knee-jerk reaction coming out of the woman's mouth and she couldn't stop it. jocelyn had always wanted more from her career but at this time as deputy mayor, she was reaping the benefits of it as it wasn;t solely placed on her shoulders. at any other time, the woman would have been moaning at how she felt undervalued, that she saw herself as a leader, however, in this instance, she wished she could bury her head in the sand. "you do realise that i'm not at work, right? i'm not sure that whether the costume is fucking protected makes a fuck ton of difference."

"If you're looking for something really obscure, I can probably order it in no problem. I've seen my fair share of weird punk bands." Noah paused his rearranging of the vinyls in the crate in front of him, giving the other person a grin before turning back to the task at hand. "But if you're looking for Chappell Roan's stuff, we got a few records left. That's been really popular lately, for obvious reasons."

He realized he hadn't yet given the other person a chance to answer yet before blabbing away; it was Noah's own way of pretending everything was fine and simultaneously expending nervous energy with the recent attack on his mind. "Anyway, sorry, what were you asking for specifically?"

quickly flicking through the records, jocelyn kept a frown on her face as something failed to jump out at her. of course, she'd already done the same thing once over before realising things were being sorted by surname... "do you get a lot of people asking for weird punk bands? perhaps you have a supply and demand issue." there was no shrug of her shoulders, just an intense stare before drawing her eyes back down to the vinyls. "it'd perhaps surprise you to know that i quite enjoy rock, alternative rock, oh and whatever they categorise Tori Amos under, these days. never quite sure with that one." by the time she'd be bothered to 'express' herself, the woman had forgotten what she was supposed to answer. "sorry, what was the question, again?"
