Have a To Do Right Now list and stop adding everything to your To Do list. 

The longer your To Do list becomes, the more likely a 'smaller' item will get lost and never completed. You never know when a small item could turn into something big.

Living Lean & Prolonging Life

As a founder, taking a humbly modest salary- one that is often grossly below what you might make at an established firm- means that you must learn to live lean. But what is living lean? Living lean is knowing how you spend you money and then choosing to spend it only on things that are necessary. I enjoy going to concerts, eating out, shopping, playing mini golf, and visiting museums, but all these things are frivolous costs.

My necessary costs are paying rent, feeding myself and my cat, having access to wifi and transportation, ensuring my computer is functional, and allowing myself some mild entertainment- read a Netflix subscription and/or the occasional date night. At times its difficult and often it requires self control- no I do not need that new pair of shoes. But the end result is worth it. Living lean prolongs the life of my company.

The less money I take as part of my salary means another month or two or three that my company still exists. I can stay in business for X amount of time longer so I can gather more users, develop partnerships, capture more of the market, become attractive to investors, etc. 85% of startups fail, and it's not always because the idea is bunk- it's because they run out of money. 

Increase your chances of success. Live lean and prolong the life of your company.
