HISTORY —
Josephine maintains she had an uneventful childhood, neglecting her successful soccer career in high school with a full ride to college. She was born and raised in Santa Monica, and for as long as she could remember, she didn't want to be noticed for anything other than her mind.
Growing up, her parents always put their faith and support in her older brother of three years. She knew they saved the college fund for him, pushed him into extracurriculars to broaden his horizons, and left Joey to be the cute little girl on the edge of the family photos.
They loved her, but their interest in her relied solely on teaching her to be a polite young lady so that should could make a husband very happy one day. Her grandmother and grandfather had no problem fussing her for being a pretty young lady, adding salt to that wound, and it frustrated her to no end when as she hit her teen years they focused heavily on modesty. All the while, she'd look on to her brother who was praised for his intelligence and ambitious future.
"You're mature for your age" is an adage for something she didn't quite understand at that age. She'd heard it all, from the next-door-mothers both awed and envious for many reasons, or to the neighborhood boys who hit on her. Growing up, she said nothing. She just stored away every comment, and every assumption, or every judgmental look.
She remained humble about her looks despite that. That the fervency with which she was desired by many, never influenced her to be anything less than grounded, modest and uninterested in their praise. It all encouraged her.
She put all of her drive in her academics and her extracurriculars. In high school, Joey quickly let her focus and determination bring her to AP classes. After school she played volley ball in the fall, and lacrosse in the spring.
Eventually she took to just volley ball, trained in the off seasons, and started Varsity in junior year. By the end of her senior year, she was stacking up the scholarships from it and her academics to cover college expenses.
While she didn't have a goal in mind, Josephine applied at the CSUF College of Business and Economics, and upon acceptance moved forward as a business major. It was there she met her first distraction junior year. She ended up dating her TA - 4 years her senior - in secret, despite it not being a major age gap, it was against school ethics for them to date someone they have authority over - i.e. a student.
It came to light through the loose lips of her dormmate (annoyed at Joey for the rules and boundaries set forth with her off campus boyfriend visiting after hours) which brought her before the school board, but her high GPA kept her from expulsion. However, the TA was put on leave for investigation.
They refused contact with her after that in hopes of restoring their career, and it drove Joey into a depression that kept her from graduating that semester. She returned home, to disappointed parents and a room that became her prison. It was too hard to go out and face the looks her father gave her, and the pitiful shake of her mother's head.
It took a couple years as she fell in and out of jobs, disheartened and ashamed she'd let herself fall. She struggled to get back into a decent enough job until she decided to return to taking online courses to earn her degree at twenty four years old. It was a slower process having to take classes while maintaining a part time job.
Two more years, she earned her degree. She had a desire to pursue her Master's, but her parents refused to foot the bill as she'd lost her scholarships. She took to working in a local club in Santa Monica as a bottle server. It had been great money, but not the best confidence booster when flirting for tips had been the best way to earn more money.
At twenty-nine she moved to Aurora Bay. The Oasis night club had been her goal at that time, and she got a job there as a bartender. She wanted to earn her keep and maybe, with playing her cards right she could work into management. That's where it started.
Joey easily climbs up to the management position in the club in three years time. She loves everything about it - the crowds, the work, the atmosphere. When the owner began work to sell the place, she wanted a chance for ownership. She intended on going for co-ownership with Bora Winters when he entered the picture.
Around this time, when she visited Los Angeles, she met Scott. It had been a while since her first real relationship, but this kicked off. Scott made her feel cared for and loved as an individual and for what she brought to the table. She was happy so the commute was not out of the question.
At 33, Bo goes back on his deal and takes the club for himself, screwing her over in this sale. She's destroyed by it, immediately resents him more than anyone else in her life, quicks as manager, and it bleeds into her personal life. This is when she acts on impulse, and begins cheating on Scott with a regular from Oasis. She even brings him back to Scott's one day while he's at work when she's visiting in Los Angeles, and that's when she ends up caught.
Newly single, she is back in Aurora Bay full time. She needs money after being off the books for some time, and ultimately decides on what she's made the most money doing: bartending. At the Golden Hour Lounge. It is a different atmosphere than that of Oasis, but she falls right in easy, and the money is good enough and that's where she's been for the last four years.

CONNECTIONS.
romantic connects will be added in the future, Joey does not have that need in her life currently. i would love to heavily plot any end game scenarios, but mid-game is also fun, just as are flings and etc. i also need positive connections for this little emotional tornado. I also don’t do any sort of pregnancy plots - scares, accidental, etc. joey doesn't want her own children, she likes to give them back.
♡ @borawinters. to say joey doesn't like bo is putting it lightly. nothing but the utmost respect, until he pulled the rug out from under her feet. now she hopes for nothing but a string of misfortunes to befall him, and for that one adored club to crumble to the ground at his feet. metaphorically or literally.
♡ @scottyxkulkari. joey did love scott. she really did. it's hard to think that she could after what she'd done to him. a real toss-up of mixed feelings, it is. (not in game but still canon.)
♡ @santiagodeleon. A friend when she needed it most, but also one of the dominos that created a chain reaction of others following in suit. she can't say she regrets what they did, even if she feels bad for the mess it's caused.
