Random stuff while I remember it.

Sue said that season five won’t get planned or written until Ben and Martin commit, and made an offhand comment like “when they’re less busy.” It sounded distant. Steven similarly said that he had no idea at all where the next season would go, and hadn’t thought about it yet. He’s busy with Dr. who now and might take a year off when that’s done.

Something about Mary…..first off, Amanda was supposed to be here but cancelled just a few days ago. Bummer. During my pic signing with Steven I asked him if he felt Mary redeemed herself at the end, or was she still morally dubious. This started a fairly long Mary defense, that she shot Sherlock nicely, that if Sherlock was ok with it why wouldn’t we be, that she had more to overcome in her past thus her moving toward to good had more meaning. He was QUITE QUITE serious, and all my Mary is evil hopes died a sad death. She DID ACTUALLY jump in front of that shot, Steven takes that absolutely for granted, so our pondering of bullet speeds etc. were all in vain. He’s still surprised some people don’t like Mary, and is rather defensive of her.

I have a feeling that more than anything, the character Steven is most proud of is in fact, Mary. Probably Mark’s too. Throughout the 4 seasons, Sherlock had three characters that were constantly lauded for how amazing they were : Sherlock, John and Moriarty. Even though the side characters had their own great moments. these three were the highlight. Sherlock and John were a unit and no one liked to see them separated and Moriarty was this unpredictable psycho looming over our favourite duo almost every step of the way. The problem is, these characters have been adapted so many times and have been given various personalities, character traits and genuinely fascinating storylines in multiple different adaptations prior to Sherlock. But Sherlock was the only adaptation that truly did something significant with Mary’s character. Every other adaptation brushes over her, sidelines her to the background or completely writes her off the adaptation after the Sign of Four is over and dealt with. Sherlock was the only show to make something out of her character and give her a central focus.

So I see why they are extremely defensive of her and felt the need to shoehorn her everywhere whilst minimising the role of John. She is theirs. No other adaptation has paid this much attention to her. In my personal view, I feel like every adaptation did it better because from the offset, Mary was always going to be the character that forces the relationship between John and Sherlock to be less intimate. But I see why they love her so much. She is their creation - she is unlike the Mary in the canon and she’s been given a bigger role than any other woman in the show. Was this a wise choice? No, not really. Maybe if she was introduced in the first series it might have been and if they had given her a less villainous storyline then perhaps they wouldn’t have to defend her as much but ultimately I feel like she is their favourite character regardless of what the audience thinks. After all, despite only being in 54% of the show, she was the one who got to have the last word. And they tell us this in the most explicit way possible : Sherlock and John are her boys. They owe their future to her. She is the one who knows who they really are. She is the one who knows that who they are doesn’t matter. It’s all what Mary knows. Mary Mary Mary.

In the end, seasons 1 - 3 + TAB are Sherlock.

But to me, season 4 should have just been called Mary.

Think what you want, but my personal takeaway from Sherlocked

-They were so fucking lucky to get Ben & Martin

-Mofftiss don’t plan stories for shit & seem to have lucked into their best moments on the show

-The gaslighting continues, no shock there

-You can do & say awful things to fans as long as you’re nice in person

-They really don’t care about their fans. At all. Not even a little

-Mofftiss have no grip on what fans, johnlocker, non shippers & casuals alike feel about the show or why people are upset/didn’t like S4

-I’ll never understand their obsession with Mary. I will never be over the “shot Sherlock nicely” quote

-My god they really are terrible writers

-I hope a S5 never happens, I don’t want these hacks touching Sherlock or John ever again

If anyone wants to see the low attendance numbers for themselves at the LA Sherlock con, notice that this is the main stage and the talk occurring right now is with Mark, Steven, and Sue. This is nothing like the London event last year.
